The Basics
Name: Oliver Rhys Seabrooke
Nicknames: Ollie
Age: 23 (February 15th)
Orientation: Pansexual
Desired Rank/Job: Dorm Monitor
Powers: Ecological Empathy and Root Information Transference
Firstly, Oliver has the ability to sense the overall well-being and conditions of his immediate environment and natural setting stemming from a psychic sensitivity to nature. So if someone is polluting a river or causing damage to a section of forest, he will know about it. This part of his ability only allows him to know about the environment a 100-yard radius around his being.
The second part of his ability is somewhat similar, only in a larger but more focused sense. By tapping into information shared between plant roots in an ecosystem, he is able to gather knowledge about the area on a wider and more focused scale. Is one tree suffering from wood beetles? Is there a fungus attacking a small copse of trees a quarter mile away? He has about a half-mile range by gathering information this way, and is largely focused on big flora such as trees and more complex plants.
Side effects from using these abilities include fatigue, headaches, and dizzy spells. He also can feel ill effects from particularly toxic or damaged environments.

The Details
Hair Color: Either dark brown or a light, whitish blonde; he changes between the two
Eye Color: Brown
Any Piercings? Twice on right ear, once on his right pec because of a dare (that he often regrets)
Any Tattoos? This behind his right ear, this on his right forearm, and this on the right side of his back
Any Scars? Faded scar above his right eye
General Appearance: Oliver is a somewhat interesting-looking guy, having a British father and a Korean mother. He has normally pale skin, a strong, angular jaw, and naturally brown hair (sometimes dyed blonde) on his father’s side, whereas he also has some traits from his mother’s side – slightly slanted eyes that are just a tad lighter brown than hers, and during the summer his skin tans to a tone more similar to hers as well. He has high, proud cheekbones and a long, straight nose above a full-lipped mouth.
He stands at an even 6’, and has a pretty strong build, though his height keeps him looking lean rather than stocky. A couple tattoos adorn his body – one behind his right ear, one on the underside of his right forearm, and one on his right shoulder blade. Ollie also has his right ear pierced twice (and usually has in simple hoops), and one piercing on his right pec that was very, very painful to get. He wants to keep all the tattoos and piercings he gets on just one side, for no real specific reason, just because he thinks it’s an interesting look. He also has a somewhat recent gash above his right eye from an accident a few months ago.
Clothes usually consist of plaid, v-necks, or other similar styles, and never anything from popular name-brand stores. Scarves can usually be seen around his neck as well, along with scuffed, worn boots and an occasional necklace of bracelet, usually hemp.
Personality: Oliver is what some would coin a ‘hipster’. He has a dislike for anything mainstream and popular, from bands to pop culture and anything and everything in between. He likes to steer clear of mass media and instead finds joy in discovering unpopular things, whether it’s an unknown music group, DIY projects, or interesting texts that no one has heard of. He has a slightly “better than you” ego from this sort of behavior, but nothing too irritating…. Usually.
He also has an interest in the environment, partially stemming from his abilities and partially just because he’s fascinated by it. He would love to just pack a backpack and take off into the unknown wilderness for days on end, and has in the past, sometimes by himself, sometimes with a couple of close friends. He enjoys the quiet solitude one can find in the natural world, and relishes the relief he gets from the constant bombardment of news and media and everything else in society.
He does, however, like meeting new people, and does enjoy close friendships with a variety of types. He is great at sharing his opinions, if not his emotions, and has a strong dislike for bad communication.
As a dorm monitor, he is a bit on the strict, no-nonsense side, though he does have his favorites that he might let slip by with something he wouldn’t necessarily allow others to do.
Hobbies include playing guitar, sailing, finding new projects to try online, and photography, all of which he is happy to do alone or with others. He is usually willing to try new things, although he is also somewhat bitter and brooding about the way his life has turned recently (see history), and lashes out at people when he’s in a particularly bad mood. He’s not mean-hearted, just sad and sometimes depressed.
Romance is a fickle thing for him. He’s not looking for casual flings and one-night stands, but he doesn’t know how he feels about the thought of actually being in a relationship either. The thought of being tied down to one person intimidates him, and he’s afraid he would get bored after a while. He’s not against dating and whatnot, but be forewarned – his ideas for dates are usually unusual and unique, as he despises cliché scenarios.

History
Minhee moved to the United Kingdom from South Korea when she was fresh out of college, hoping there would be opportunities there for her to find in the field of work she had studied in. However, she didn’t plan on meeting James and falling in love, but that is exactly what happened, and after a few years the two married and were expecting their first and only child.
Oliver had always been a somewhat quiet, curious child, preferring the company of animals and books and close friends over large groups of people. He was bright, did well in school, and quickly found an interest in playing guitar, along with an admiration for small, unknown indie bands that created music he enjoyed. He always loved to travel as well, and his parents gave him the opportunity to visit a lot of places – different countries in Europe, South Korea, the United States. He took tons of pictures of his adventures, and found that he mostly loved the various landscapes, and how beautiful and varied the natural world was in different places on Earth.
By the age of eleven, he had already found a group of friends and had started a little ‘band’ of sorts, with Ollie as the main guitarist along with a singer, drummer, bassist, and violinist. It was all just for fun, but it created a passion in Oliver to want to spread their music around the country someday, and, perhaps, the world.
They got gradually better over the years, but as fate would have it, Oliver’s ability manifested by the time he was fourteen. It was an interesting manifestation – he and his parents were out hiking in a beautiful section of woods, and all of a sudden Oliver became acutely aware of a chemical seeping into a nearby river, to the point where he felt sick from it. Neither of his parents were metas, so they were surprised when the recruiters showed up and whisked him away to Kocher to study.
While there, Oliver felt very out of place. He missed his friends, and didn’t feel like he fit in. When he heard two of his old bandmates had also developed abilities but were both moving to the United States due to family issues, he decided to transfer over to Hammel as well and study there. He was fifteen by the time this happened, and he spent the last three years of his school life at the Hammel Institute.
During his time at Hammel, he and his friends formed up their band again, along with a couple new members. They got to the point where they were actually very good, and managed to book small shows at various locations around Pilot Ridge and the nearby area. After Oliver graduated, he decided to skimp out on college in pursuit of making his band more well-known, and spent the next several years of his life making music, touring, and living the high life. They were never extremely successful, and never hit it huge, but they managed to get some pretty sweet deals and put on some great performances, and planned to keep doing so for a long time.
But just as Oliver’s life hit its highest, tragedy struck. Early this last year, the band was in the middle of a performance when a huge prop broke from the top of the stage, hitting Oliver on the right side of his forehead. He was rushed to the hospital with a severe concussion, but it wasn’t until he finally managed to come to and get more aware of his surroundings that they realized the injury had blinded him in his right eye. Scared to go back on stage and having difficulty accepting his disability, Oliver moved back to Pilot Ridge, hoping to find work somewhere while he sorted his life out. He managed to get a job back at Hammel as a dorm monitor, and that’s where he is now, trying to get over his bitterness at what his life could have been if he hadn’t been hurt. He hopes he can get back into the business someday, but for now, he wants to lay low and readjust himself.
