Power(s): Shadow manipulation/Ability to see in the dark – Able to manipulate already present shadow: can blend in with it as well as move and form it, but cannot create shadows out of nothing. Since being at Hammel, has learned to use them to feel into places that have shadow. For example, if in a darkened house, he can sense movement in other rooms, because he can feel the shadows moving. As a result of this, and his ability to see in the dark, he has sensitivity to light as well as trouble sleeping. Another side effect of his shadow manipulation is fatigue.
Play By: Jensen AcklesLet it F L O W . . .Since he was a child, Emrys has always been the happy-go-lucky type. Extremely laid back and easily amused, he's the embodiment of “don't sweat the small stuff”. At one point, his friends made a game of trying to get him riled, but they never managed to get any more of a reaction from him than a flat look and a barely irritated, “All right, that's enough”. When pressed at that point, he resorts to calmly ignoring the point of irritation. It is likely for the better, because when something does manage to rile him, he can be a virtual whirlwind of fury: nearly impossible to control or calm. The long and short of it is that you do not want to be the one his rare anger is directed at.
Growing up, he was the middle child between two sisters: Candence (the younger) and Lanae (the elder). Their parents were determined they were all bound for greatness, enrolling all of them in various forms of competitive sports. None of them particularly suited Emrys, as he found little motivation to win competitions, but eventually the combination of prolonged exposure to such situations, coupled with his parents' encouragement and insistence, he began forming somewhat more of a determination. With this determination, he took up team gymnastics more seriously.
However, this was short lived. When he was nearly fifteen, a disaster crashed into their family, one that disrupted all their lives. That was the kidnapping of his two sisters: a result of his elder sister's rising fame, his parents' wealth, and a jealous competitor's plots. A ransom situation resulted and later, once the authorities located the kidnapped girls, a hostage situation.
The waiting was terrible. This became one of the few times Emrys was on edge, and no doubt the longest period of time he maintained anything but calm. Finally, after what seemed an eternity, his sisters were rescued: the elder badly injured, the younger less so, but in shock. As they slowly recovered, the reasoning for their kidnapping came better into light. The kidnapping had been commissioned by the parent of one of the elder sister's competitors, as a way of taking her out of the competition. With the realization of this, Emrys once against pulled back from competitive sports, and became paranoid when it came to his sisters doing anything the slightest bit unsafe. Though the elder sister had been permanently handicapped from her injuries, the younger continued competitive sports with a vengeance. Emrys became hyper-vigilant, determined to keep her safe.
During this time, as problems always come in groups, other things began happening which only worsened the stress of the situation. Emrys' vision in the dark began growing better, while at the same time he found himself having to wear sunglasses when it was too sunny out, as the light hurt his eyes. Then, the shadows began moving. At first, before he put together that he was the one controlling them, he became wary of dimly lit rooms and even wondered if he was going crazy. However, it didn't take long before he realized he had a connection with them, something only confirmed when the recruiter from Hammel arrived barely a week later. Like most things, Emrys took this in stride.
Though interested in learning how to use his newfound power, the move to Hammel only worsened Emrys' paranoia regarding his sisters, especially the younger, as he couldn't be around to keep an eye on her. He spent quite a while in counseling, and though now, about three years later, he has improved greatly, he still tends to be overprotective of his family and friends. The insomnia resultant from his power does little to help his bouts of paranoia, and neither do his nightmares.
One source of relief for him recently has been the fact his younger sister has just recently manifested a power as well, and will therefore be attending to Hammel shortly. Though he doesn't live in the dorms currently, rather in an apartment, he is still glad that they will be living close by and attending the same school. He keeps up a part-time job at Starbucks, as well as works in a less consistent job with a moving company, to support himself in the apartment.
Emrys has brown eyes and a crop of dark brown hair. He's somewhat heavily built, and has kept up the muscles he formed when in gymnastics. This he's done mostly out of a quiet sense of duty that he must be strong enough to defend the ones he loves, rather than an enjoyment of exercise.
