The BasicsName: Matthew Luke Davis
Nicknames: Matt, Mattlock, Number 6, The Good Samaritan, Bass-hole, Matty, Machine Man, Choir Boy
Age: 15
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: A superhuman intuition of how technology comes together and work that allow him to understand and create complex works or replicate them from little more than a single observation. While the power itself is advanced and capable of being refined, his capabilities with it are lacking. He has yet to figure out how to create something new, and instead focuses on replicating and repairing already existing creations.
The power could be turned on and off. Focusing on a subject gives him a linear, analytical mindset and a sort of tunnel-vision effect. This focus can be turned towards directly replicating an object, fixing it, or creating something entirely new. At this time Matthew is unable to break away from this mindset when he enters it, and has not learned how to focus on creating. If he is forcefully pulled away from this thought system or comes across a barrier he can’t work around, he could suffer severe migraines, a sudden burst of aggression, and fatigue.
Even when he isn't pulled away from his focus, Matt suffers from a few side affects. He has sudden cases of fixed attention and finds himself unable to pull away from thinking about objects or creation. Like having a song stuck in his head, unable to drop it. Secondly, after focusing on replicating something Matt is unable to activate his creativity and finds it hard to think about new ideas or concepts.

Eye Color: Green
Any Piercings? None
Any Tattoos? None
Any Scars? A few little scars from his sports injuries, including a large one on his ankle from surgery.
General Appearance: Matt is an attractive and fit young man. Standing at 6’2” he is an impressive specimen who may seem intimidating at first, thought the large, uneven smile on his fat lips is usually enough to defuse any discomfort. He’s worked on his skills and his body, honing it into an athletic machine that fits his active lifestyle. He is quite proud of his physical accomplishments, especially his abs and the way his naturally large shoulders have been toned. While he doesn’t think about his attractiveness that often, he does focus on his physique and spends a great deal of time working out and trying to remain ‘chiseled’.
He takes after his mother’s soft appearance more than his father and looks completely different from his dark haired brother with sharp cheekbones. His face is smooth with easy curves and his eyes wide and bright. His lips are larger than most which added a nice beauty to his mother, but gives Matt an almost cartoonish smile.
His abs aren’t the only treasured part of his body. The golden blonde hair is a personal highlight. He spends a great deal of time tending to it and making sure it’s nice and clean, though he doesn’t usually put any products in it. On a normal day he washes it with head and shoulders and brushes it over an obscene amount of time. Due to his own assumption that he has a weirdly shaped head, he is deathly afraid of going bald.
His family has been on the upper end of the lower class. He wore his brother’s hand me downs for as long as he was able to fit into the smaller boy’s clothes, and is a frequent shopper at walmart and K-mart and has never owned anything from one of the fancy stores where the pictures show half naked men to advertise shirts.
Personality: Matt has two general settings that seem to change his personality. Focused and relaxed. Unfortunately Matt’s unable to control when he becomes focused, and unsure how to become relaxed. Though playing the guitar or riding his board does help calm him down.
When Matt is in his natural, relaxed state he is your average teenage boy. He isn’t the smartest guy and believes himself to have a slew of learning disabilities making education and the classroom a scary place. When he’s free to be himself, away from pencils and tests, he’s as friendly as they come. He likes to make friends and introduce himself to anyone new he sees, normally with a cheesy joke he heard somewhere or a silly quip that makes most people walk away. Sporty and excitable, he’s more than willing to try any number of things as long as it doesn’t go completely against his deep religious code. He has been known to falter from it, however. He’s a teenage boy and only human after all! Well, only Meta.
When he can’t find someone to hang out with or bother, he’s normally in his room scarfing on snacks, heading out to work on his bike, or grabbing his ‘Broken Bin’ to repair things some people would like to have him fix. Most of his equipment comes from Walmart or the dump where people toss away salvageable things he can mend up.
When Matt becomes focused he develops a sort of tunnel vision. He isn’t completely unaware of what’s around him, but he has a hard time pulling his focus away from whatever has his immediate attention. When in this state he is normally breaking something down, physically or mentally, and learning how to use it, manipulate it, put the rules and laws of it to memory, or recreate it in some way. Should something not fit with his understanding of his focal point he’ll grow frustrated and develop a migraine.
Two of the biggest issues with Matt is his self image and his narrow minded outlook. He finds himself a failure in all things outside of the physical realm. He works hard, but grades fail. He tries to be creative, but falls flat. He tried to be the perfect son to his father, and ended up being a Meta. His father was always a rather offensive individual who hated foreigners, african americans, hispanics, and any other person who didn’t fit into his perfect American ideal. Matt’s adapted some of the same mentalities, though his mother made sure to teach him that he was allowed to have an opinion as long as he didn’t offend people or verbally break them down.Your VicesLikes:

Secret: He has read hundreds of comic books and a few fantasy novels multiple times. The imagination and creativity put into the works of fiction intrigue him, just as one might be impressed by how much sheer knowledge he has about automobile maintenance.
He’s only had pet dogs growing up, but has always had a strange fascination for cats. Though he’ll never admit it.
One of the reasons he dislikes foreign cultures comes from his linear thinking. He worked hard to get to where he is and the introduction of a new culture can easily confuse him or mess with his understanding of the American way. Though he likes to hide the reasonings of this prejudice behind his southern American pride.
When the dorito taco was announced, he had dreams about it for three nights straight. He made a road trip with his best friend Eric to find it, and they each had six. The stomach pains that followed were legendary, and he and Eric decided never to discuss it again.Family TiesFather: Paul Davis. A deacon at the local baptist church and a factory worker. A strong man who has issues with his son being a ‘meta’. He hopes that it can be worked through and that he’ll be able to act more normal. He’s always favored his son Paul over Matt, though does genuinely love his son and hopes that he’ll do better even if he’s ‘slow’. He instilled most of the racist and prejudice views into Matt.
Mother: Mary Davis. A kind and loving mother who doesn’t share the same views as her husband Paul. She is more respectful of different cultures, though is ignorant to them. She isn’t sure what is happening to her son Matt, but is willing to do anything to help him out.
Siblings:Paul Davis Jr. His older brother who is currently serving in the armed forces as a pilot in the Navy.
Other Important People:
-Employer: Adam Reed. His former employer at Reed’s Automotives. He brought out the engineer in Matt and introduced him to hundreds of different cars and motorcycles.
-Coach: Coach Ferris. His high school football coach. He’s been a family friend for as long as Matt’s been alive. He’s helped Matt with his schooling and his football career.
-Grandfather: Gabriel Davis. Matt’s grandfather who lives a few streets from his son and his family.
-Counselor: Mrs. Anderson. The counselor who most often dealt with the Davis family.
-Family Pet: Duster. A mutt of a hound dog, the family pet.
-Friend: Eric Willis: Matt’s best friend for about ten years. They tried out for the football team together and he acted as his running back since then.HistoryMatt lived a pretty average life in the state of North Carolina. His father worked for a local factory while his mother stayed at home and took care of the house and kids. They’d always been members of the working class and both Matt and his older brother were expected to help with the income when they became old enough to work. Not necessarily legally. Both Matt and his brother took jobs before the age of 13 for neighbors and friends who’d be willing to help pay.
Matt had issues with school starting towards the end of the 5th grade, around when he started to work for one of his father’s friends in an automotive shop. They assumed it was the toll of both work and school that weighed on him, but figured that school was less important than the experience that work provided him. it wasn’t until a year later that the complications became more apparent. His C- average quickly dropped down to an F. He had gone to detention numerous times after growing disobedient and unresponsive during work or tests as well as daydreaming as he’d stare out of the window. Matt started to skip school and retreat to his work, Reed’s automotives, where he would help fix the old cars brought in.
Matt found himself unable to focus on anything in the classroom, and instead turned his attention towards Football. Normally a C average was needed to play, though an agreement was reached between Matt’s father and the coach, who was an old time buddy of his. As long as Matt went to a tutor twice a week and didn’t miss a homework assignment, he’d be allowed to play. Matt’s salvation came into play on the field and for the next few years he acted as the star player on their team as both quarterback and tight end.
While he was alone one day in the junkyard behind the shop, Matt felt something strange when he noticed the open engine of a muscle car. He repaired the old dodge challenger in about two hours. Reed had been there near the end of the repair, and tried to get Matt’s attention, but instead he simply watched. Reed was more than impressed and started to show Matt some of the older cars that he thought were scrap and let him have at it. Matt was able to rebuild nine of the vehicles within a week. One of these vehicles included an old honda CB750 which Reed gave to the young man as his payment for the impressive week. Reed spoke to him about what he had done but Matt didn’t seem to understand anything about the things he built. He just knew how to put them together for some reason. Reed tried to teach and show him while talking to his father about his immense skills, and after a a few days of work, Matt finally felt an understanding and appreciation for automotives. Matt spent the next few days fixing and repairing whatever he could find in the junkyard, from old cars to radios and toys to televisions.
After speaking with Reed about is son's strange aptitude for machinery his father brought him along to the factory to show him some of the machines he worked with. His father showed him around until Matt noticed one of the machines was starting to smoke and burn. Matt started to move towards it before the heat built up. Paul grabbed Matt and pulled him away, while Matt fought back and elbowed Paul on the side of the head. Eventually the machine was shut down and two men subdued Matt. The boy remained silent on the car ride back while his father berated him for his erratic and stupid behavior.
Later in the evening when his family had fallen asleep, Matt snuck out of his house and took his CB750 to the closed factory. He snuck into the factory until he made his way to the machinery and began his work. Unfortunately for Matt, he security guard saw him tampering with the machinery and yelled for him to stop. The unresponsive vandal continued to work until the cops came. Even then he fought the police, mere minutes away from finishing the complete repair.
The local papers were hard on the young man: Discussing the repairs he had made while mocking his school performance. The school counselor saw to him and tried to put him through a few tests to try and pinpoint what had happened. The suspicion that the boy was ‘different’ circulated faster than even the news of what he had done, and his father grew distasteful for his son. Though the family didn’t have to deal with the awkward silence for long before he was taken to the institute.Roleplay Example
“...Seriously? It’s just like a big wolf… You can just shoot it to death.” Matt chastised while pulling off the shoulder pads and dropping them beside of the locker. He and Eric were the only two left in the room.
“Yeah… that’s what you think. And then you realize it’s not working. You’re shooting, and it’s healing up! You need silver bullets or you’re just shooting marshmallows.” Eric countered. He reached into Matt’s locker and pulled out some deodorant. He popped off the top and took a sniff. “...This doesn’t smell anything like chocolate.”
“Well not to us… but girls smell things differently, it smells like chocolate to them. Smells just like the candles in Yankee.” Matt defended the Axe line while unlacing his cleats. “And I don’t care. You take a M4 to a werewolf and it’ll shred it apart. Silver bullets or not… and go into a church or something, they have silver there and holy water.”
“Holy water doesn’t do anything to them. That’s just vampires I think… Not even zombies hate holy water. And that doesn’t matter… Ghosts are nothing. They don’t -do- anything. They haunt a house, and you leave.”
“Not a real ghost… It would just leave the house and go after you. And you can’t do anything about a ghost.” Matt lifted off of the bench and grabbed the deodorant from his friend, rubbing it on eagerly. This was about the thirtieth time they had this argument. Last time Matt was saying that mummies were the best monster. What was he thinking.
“Oooh, it’ll drag you across the floor or throw books at you…” Eric said with a mockingly scared expression.
“Dude if it can throw books… it can throw knives…” Matt retorted with a scoff. “Either way… They are both better than vampires.” Both boys nodded in agreement. “You gonna take a shower?” Eric shook his head and Matt shrugged. With the chocolate pits he smelled alright, and the sweat had evaporated off of him by then. He grabbed a hold of his shirt and pulled it on over his head before heading towards the door.
The boys made their way back to the student parking. There were only a few cars left in the lot this late in the day. Most of the students were gone, and their cars with them. When they reached the motorcycle, Eric swung his leg over and straddled the bike with a smirk.
“Hey, let me take her home! I’ve seen you do it enough. I’ve got the idea.”
“ I saw Smith take you out earlier dude, I bet you don’t even know where you live.” Matt said with a quick laugh and motioned for him to move back.
Eric shrugged his defeat and slid back. It would be the last thing he’d do before his entire world came crashing down… His phone slid out of his pocket and hit hard against the pavement. Eric jumped off of the bike and bent down to grab it, but wasn’t quick enough. “Shit! Shit, shit...oh god...Matt, this isn’t good...My dad just bought this for me! It’s cracked…but-... No, it won’t even come on...please please.”
Matt was transfixed. His eyes locked on the phone on the ground, and they followed it as Eric stood up. He was silent and his face was blank. Wide lips opened slightly as he watched. His hand shot out like lightning and he took the phone from Eric before he turned, blocking the owner of the phone with his back. Matt wasn’t sure what Eric had said, or what he did. All he knew was that he had to shift from time to time and elbow someone out of the way. His thumb slid between the cracked screen and opened up the device before he lost control of his hands. Watching them as they worked, but not recording it, or recording anything. It felt like when he read a book and finished the page before realizing he had no idea what he just read. The next thing he recalled was the phone. It was on in his hands, coming to life again. The screen was still cracked, but it was bright.
It was darker outside than he remembered. Not much, just a bit. He turned and looked down at Eric who was sitting lazily against the bike. “...Sorry, man. I just-... Here, I fixed it?” Matt reached down and offered the phone back.
“...Fuck man.” Eric stood up and grabbed a hold of the phone. “What the hell was that?” Eric had a new bruise on his cheek. Pretty large.
“I don’t know man, sorry I just-... What matters is that it’s fixed, right? Your dad won’t eat you alive now…” Matt didn’t want to talk more about it. He swung his leg over the motorcycle and started it up.
“He will if we’re late…” Eric said meekly, rubbing his cheek while climbing on the back of the bike. “...That was weird, dude…”
“Shut up, I fixed it right...let’s just go. We won’t be late. I know the roads.” He spoke just as meekly as Eric did, though his face was dark red with anger, annoyance, and embarrassment. He let the engine roar before the two of them sped off back to town. What About You?Name: Jon
