I thought I'd make a thread for any fics that are particularly pungent and upsetting so if anyone wants to cry for any reason, they can seek out this thread.
I go first
---
It was around 3 that Jesse let himself inside of the Richmond place. As the Richmond family had gone off on some sort of weird shopping trip, he knew it was only going to be Horus inside. The blonde had been working extra hard on a particular art project and had said for Jess to let himself in. He didn't want to interrupt his creative flow or some other crap. Either way, he was about halfway up the stairs when he realised he didn't hear the rattle of paint pots, or Horus singing obnoxiously to the music. Frowning to himself, he jogged up the stairs to the second floor, then glanced around angrily for his fiance.
“Horus?” He hollered. Typical, the little shit had bailed on him. Moving over to the attic stairs, he let out a yelp and hurried over to the prone form at the bottom. His head was bleeding heavily, and even Jesse's limited medical skills – thank god for Nathan's first aid instruction – told him that Horus had clearly suffered a fall. He carefully peeled open the blonde's eyelids and found nothing, just blank pupils non-reactive to light. He wanted to shake the little guy, wake him up. But he knew better. Instead, he fumbled for his phone and pressed 911, practically yelling at the operator that his fiance had just been found fallen down the stairs. Shit. There was nothing worse than the fact that the clumsy Richmond had narcolepsy, and could have fallen from the top step. If he had done... god. He quickly fingered through his phonebook calling Nathan next, then Sakhmet, Sett, Anubis... anyone who needed to know.
The next ten minutes dragged on slowly, as Jesse kept pleading silently for Horus to wake up, to move... anything. It was Nathan who arrived first, calling to Jesse, then running up. His presence was somewhat soothing to the terrified teen, as he pleaded with his 'father' for help, and the bio-manipulator carefully checked Horus' vital signs, not wanting to tell his son that there was very little he could do – the boy was badly injured and needed specialist scans before he could do anything.
When the ambulance arrived, Nathan and Jesse rode alongside the unconscious blonde to the hospital. They sat together in the waiting room till the three Richmond siblings arrived, and, pale with worry, Sett managed to ask;
“What happened?”
“I... I found him at the bottom of the attic stairs.”
There was nothing else said, as the five people sat waiting for news, all sick with concern. In fact, Sakhmet had to rush to the toilet more than once. They were all suffering and silently hoping when the main consultant came in with a grave face.
“Are you Mr. Richmond's family?” He asked quietly, looking over at the motley group.
“Yes.” Jesse managed, swallowing a ball of worry in his throat. “I'm his... his fiance.”
There was a long silence then, and the doctor fidgeted around, while Jesse's glare fell firmly on him. He didn't seem to want to break the news, and the only thing that could happen was Anubis parting his lips.
“Please. Please what's wrong with my little brother?”
“He's... got severe brain damage. I'm so sorry. He's in a coma... we're running diagnostic tests on him to find out the severity of the fall. He's unresponsive to light, but his vital functions are stable.” The doctor tried to find the ray of hope, but there was nothing. Sett clenched his jaw.
“Can we see him?”
“Go ahead.”
The rush into the room didn't take long. It was awful seeing the youngest Richmond with wires poking all out of him, the soft sound of beeping machines and the quiet sound of the oxygen moving in his lungs. Jesse ran forward the fastest, grabbing hold of one tube-ridden hand and quietly touching at it. Not again. This can't happen again. He grit his teeth and pressed his forehead to the cool palm, then glanced over at Nathan. Save him, he begged with his eyes, but the former doctor just stood there, looking deeply concerned.

“So yeah, it was great.” Jesse breathed, sat in the chair comfortably. “I got to see her again and she even asked me to give these to you.” He gestured at the bouquet of flowers by the bedside table. “She wants to meet you a lot, so when you wake up you've got to come see her.” He squeezed the motionless hand on the bed, pressing a kiss to a warm temple. “She wants to know if you have an English accent, too.” He laughed to himself to fill up the silence in the room.
“And I got good grades, they say I'm set to get a first.” He trailed off then. “Shit Horus, I'm trying to do the things you wanted me to. I... I even said goodbye to Gabriel's grave. For the last time.” He picked at his piercings, taking a big breath. “Dad's being kind of nice, he's been pushing for you to get seen by someone really famous specialist so you can get better faster.” He looked over to the clock. “Visiting time's over soon. Could you... just wiggle a finger? Blink. Goddamnit Horus just do something. I want to know you're listening.”
But no answer came, just the steady, methodical bleeping of the machines and the rise and fall of his chest.
“It's been a year. Please.” He begged, gripping Horus' hand a little tighter. “You promised you wouldn't leave me, and you said you don't break promises.” He gently shook Horus' shoulders. “You promised.” The nurse came in then, smiling over at Jesse and nodding.
“Time for his bath, Mr. Lee.” She nodded, setting down a few items including a stethoscope. “Any news?”
“... Yeah. I'd like to think he'd be proud of me.” He muttered, standing up and pressing a kiss to the unmoving lips. “I'll be back later, don't wake up without me.” He managed jokily, before slumping out of the room. The nurse watched him sadly, then closed the door and tended to the suspended blonde teen.

They moved down the aisle together, grinning and waving at their family as they reached the pastor, moving to intermingle their hands. The words began and nothing but utter happiness and joy flooded them both, as Jesse pushed the simple silver band onto Horus' finger. He couldn't keep the smile off his face as they shared their kiss.
“I love y'so much Jesse Richmond.”
“I love you too Horus Richmond.” They shared a grin then, and Jesse curled his arms around the shorter blonde, resting his chin on his head. This felt right, this felt so right. There was a lovely sound of applause from family and friends, and then the taller boy took his new husband off down the aisle and back to the front of the church. He stood there, bending to plant another kiss when he heard this annoying niggle.
“Mr. Lee?” He glanced around. He was Richmond now.
“Mr. Lee? Please?”
Jesse's head rose off the pillow and he stared around at the nurse, pushing his face and scrubbing at his eyes. “Sorry... must've fallen asleep.” He muttered, almost wishing he hadn't woken up. He glanced over at Horus, who was just as still as ever, then sat up.
“The doctor wants to speak to all of you now, if you'd like to follow me.” She said gently, opening the door for the tall blonde, letting him go to the consultation room. When he sat down, he recognised nearly the entire Richmond clan in there. Mr and Mrs. Richmond and the 6 other sibling s sat around the room, each looking withered and sad. Jesse sunk into the seat closest to the door, hoping to see his fiance again before visiting time ended.
“It's good you all came here for me to talk to you about Horus.” The consultant said softly, sitting down behind his desk. “I'm afraid I have bad news.” He swallowed then, and Jesse's nails dug into the couch.
“Since the fall, Horus has had minimal brain function, he's barely able to continue using his vital organs, and he has no reactions to any other stimuli.”
“What are you saying?” Amelia begged, wringing her hands and holding onto her husband while the rest of the family became almost motionless.
“It's been six years, Mr and Mrs Richmond. Horus' condition hasn't improved. I'm afraid...” He trailed off, and Jesse almost wanted to run out of the door, terrified of what he was going to say. “I'm afraid he isn't going to regain consciousness. He's got no remnants of personality left.”
“You're saying he's a vegetable, aren't you?” Isis hissed softly, looking torn between tears and rage. “You're saying my baby brother is...”
“We want to put forward the idea of … taking him off the machines. He's not going to wake and...”
Amelia began to cry, and balled her fists up to sob on her husband, and he cradled her gently against his chest. Jesse just remained tensed.
“He's going to wake up.” He eventually growled, standing up. “He PROMISED. He's going to wake up any day now. Any fucking day.” And with that, he stormed out the room to be back with the comatose blonde. Shit. They couldn't take him off. They couldn't. How could they even suggest giving up on him?
“They're telling us to give up.” He whispered hoarsely, touching Horus' cheek. “I don't want to.” He pressed his cheek to Horus' own, then fell silent.
***
The day to unplug Horus came too fast for Jesse's liking. He sat nearly every day with the blonde, refusing stoicly to leave him. He was going to lose his Horus. The boy who'd given him the chance to live again. He winced when the doctors, and the other Richmonds came in. He wanted to scream, to hit them and push them away. Tell them never to come.
But then the machines began to flick off, and Jesse had to stifle a howl, grabbing hold of his still fiance and clinging to his frame.
“You promised.” He whispered, hiding his tears in Horus' hospital gown.
“You promised.”
