The Basics
Name: Ricio Luis Miller
Nicknames: Reese (he tried to make kids at school call him this when he was younger because it was easier for them to say and remember, but it never stuck)
Age: 30
Orientation: Bisexual
Desired Rank/Job: Local/Vagrant
Powers: Temperature Adaptation – Ricio’s body temperature regulates itself involuntary. Because of this, he neither feels hot nor cold. He can feel wet though, so just because he’s not cold standing in a pile or snow it doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel the wetness. Ricio cannot feel temperature in anything, whether it be another warm body, a hot stove, or cold ice cream. Although he cannot feel the heat of fire, he can still get burnt. But extreme cold does not give him frostbite because his body keeps warm. As an adolescent he was often burning himself on household items, such as stoves or irons. And to this day he still burns himself sometimes with his cigarettes or lighters. Also, because his body is constantly adjusting temperature, Ricio has a poor immune system.

The Details
Hair Color:Dark Brown
Eye Color:Brown
Any Piercings?None so far.
Any Tattoos? None, although he would love to get a few he never manages to save up the money.
Any Scars? He has many scars but they’re mostly small burns on his hands or lower arms. Except for the burns that crawl up his left leg from sleeping too close to a campfire.
General Appearance:
Ricio may be homeless, but he does a fair job of keeping up with his hygiene. His hair tends to get a little untidy faster than the rest of him because he lets it grow out long. He uses public restrooms to freshen up and his brother’s house whenever he needs more than that.
His has a very expressive face, particularly his eyes. This makes it near impossibly for him to get away with lying, especially with anyone who knows him well.
His wardrobe is fairly limited though since he carries most of his worldly possessions around with him. (The main exception is his guitar and extra art supplies which he keeps stored at his brother’s.) Although his powers would allow him to wear shorts and a t-shirt, or less, year-round he doesn’t. He prefers pants and long sleeves because not only do they offer more pockets, and therefore more storage space, but also they cover his scars. Not that he minds them, but he has found that they sometimes make people uncomfortable, especially the ones on his leg. Also, even though he cannot feel the warmth that extra clothing provides for him, something about the soft cloth touching his skin feels right.
Ricio is hardly motionless. Even when he is seated he gestures a lot with his hands, drums a beat on his legs, taps his feet, or twiddles his thumbs.
Personality:
Ricio values his freedom above all else, so he hates to be tied down to anything. He has no permanent place to live, no bills to pay, no constant job, and no family to support. The only ongoing relationship that he has ever taken the effort to keep up with is the one he has with his older brother, who tends to spoil Ricio although neither of them can see it.
Because of his freedom from what everyone around him considers day-to-day stressors, Ricio has trouble connecting and helping others. It’s easy for others to think he doesn’t take their struggle seriously and view him as irresponsible. He does try to help and loves to give out advice, even though he’s horrible at taking it from others himself. His outlook on life, including his own, is almost painfully optimistic.
Ricio has no concept of time and doesn’t believe in living by a clock. Because of this he’s late for just about everything. It’s not that he doesn’t care or sets out to annoy anyone; he just lives at a different pace.
He’s very reckless with his personal safety, but usually protective of others. He believes in trying everything at least once even if it’s hazardous. Although he doesn’t’ drink much, due to the expense of that habit, when he does drink things to get out of hand.

History
Ricio was born in Colombia, although the few memories he has from living there are fading fast. He knows nothing of his biological parents and although he’s considered trying to find them a few times, he has never followed through with the idea. At age five he was adopted by Steven and Donna Miller, who he and his brother often called “The Collectors”. This is because they adopted four children, all from different parts of the globe. However they were not very involved in his or his siblings’ upbringing and left the task to nannies. But Ricio never felt neglected. His siblings, particularly his brother who had been adopted before him and always watched out for him, was enough of a family for him.
When his power manifested at age twelve Ricio was excited to follow his brother to Hammel. After the brothers were both at Hammel, his parents became even more distant. Instead they focused their attention on his sisters who were non-powered. The boys often stayed at Hammel over the breaks and Ricio developed a strong attachment to the area. He felt like he had found a place to call his home.
He did well in his classes and managed to stay out of any major trouble, while still having a good time. When he graduated from Hammel, Ricio left Pilot Ridge feeling that nothing stood the way of his future. He went to college to study art with the idea of returning to his old school as a teacher while creating masterpieces of his own to be sold around the world.
A few short weeks into college, Ricio’s fear of small spaces (which had been with him for a year or so) started to grow into a major stressor in his life. At first, he just shrugged it off as adjusting to college life, but it only got worse. By the time finals were starting, Ricio could hardly stand being in his dorm room or a classroom. He would break out in a sweat just walking into a building or suffer from panic attacks if he managed to sit through a few minutes of a lecture. He spent his last few days on campus pacing in the courtyards of the college, unable to enter any of the buildings because of the stress and the fear.
He never made it back for he second semester. He tried living at his brother’s apartment for a while, but it only lasted a week. Even there, he felt constricted. He was ashamed to ask for help from his brother. Not because he felt weak, but because this fear that consumed him seemed inexplicable. Not to mention, he wasn’t sure how to explain the solution he had discovered. Which was to give up living indoors completely. After all it seemed the best solution to him. His power would keep him out of most of the harm caused by the elements. It just seemed to fit.
He was right about having trouble explaining the idea to others. His parents, who had never really taken an interest in his life and not approved of his artistic passions, were not thrilled to have a homeless person in the family. His two sisters thought he had lost his mind. Even his brother told him to stop running from his problems.
But Ricio didn’t think of it as running away, but running towards. After a few weeks of living wherever he happened to find himself at the moment, he found that the way of life fit him perfectly. Although he didn’t take it as a concern that no one understood, it did get annoying to have them constantly trying to fix him. So he left the east coast and made his way across the country.
For the next several years, Ricio traveled the country. Although he made some friends along the way he never stayed in the same place for long. For money he picked up odd jobs on farms or construction sites, he sold artwork, or played music on street corners. Sometimes people would try to help him, thinking that he wished to join back into normal society. When he explained that he was choosing to live this way, they thought he was crazy.
Four years ago, when Ricio was twenty-four, he woke up on a park bench in San Diego to find his brother standing over him. The two had spoken a few times over the years, but with Ricio’s lifestyle keeping in touch on opposite sides of the country was tricky. He knew his brother had gotten married after graduating college. What Ricio didn’t know what that his brother’s wife left him in the past year after a drawn out divorce.
After several long, late night conversations (often fueled by alcohol) Ricio realized how lonely his brother was. And how lonely he was too. He loved being house-less, but something about another person who he could count on was missing. And his brother had always been the one to fill that void when he was younger. With the understanding that Ricio would continue to live outside, the brothers returned to Pilot Ridge.
Having lived in the area for the past four years (not to mention during his time at Hammel), Ricio knows almost every nook and cranny of the areas. He feels at home anywhere he decides to stop for the night. He still makes money by selling artwork, random day jobs, or playing music.
