Okay, so they’re not exactly legal here...

Jaythen had done some pretty stupid things in his life. This had to be somewhere in the top twenty. Since he was old enough to buy fireworks, he bought them on a whim while at a gas station. There was nothing particularly special about today, or a reason to set off fireworks in the middle of the night, but he didn’t need a reason to be stupid. It just came naturally.

After putting on his pajamas, Jaythen borrowed his mom’s car to drive to the lake. He peeked around to make sure no one was around, and once he thought the coast was clear, he stepped out of the minivan and opened the hatchback. There were all kinds of fun things to set off, and he just couldn’t believe he hadn’t thought of doing this before. Perhaps weather had something to do with it.

Soon enough, the man was trying to light one of the cherry bombs, unsure of how to do so or what would happen once he did, other than the obvious. “Work I say!” He said, a little too loudly to stay unnoticed. Not that a minivan was the best way to stay in the shadows either though.

Sulk, sulk, sulk. That was all Lucah had done the past few months. Here he was totally in love with a girl that he couldn't have. What was a guy to do? Something stupid of course. He may have been a good Romanian boy, but he was still a guy and they tended to do dumb things when they were pissed off or sulking. It was inevitable.

But he didn't know what sort of dumb things he should do. Usually he didn't allow for this kind of behavior, but he needed a relief from reality and the hellish time he'd been going through. Walking through the lake wasn't exactly stupid, but he was hoping to do something, find something to do. And that was when he noticed a van. A large van that was definitely not good for hiding. Not hiding people and not hiding.....FIREWORKS!!

That was it. Lucah loved fireworks. Why? He didn't really know because it didn't mesh well with being a cryokinetic. The heat bothered him so he never lit fireworks, but he liked watching them go off and the sound that they made. The man attempting to light the fireworks seemed to be having some trouble though. Weird because Luc had never seen anyone struggle with lighting fireworks...interesting.

Without much thought, Luc walked over to the van and stuffed his hands in his pockets, "Ya know, I thought that fireworks were illegal here? I mean I wouldn't know all that well, and I'm not going to turn you in if they are, I was merely curious. What kind did you get?" He asked, the inner child in him showing through his curiosity.

JD didn't really like being outdoors at night. It was impossible to see anything, and it was really a time better spent indoors playing video games or sleeping. Or hanging out with Jalen. Really, any of those would be better than what he was currently doing. But his astronomy project called for him to study the phases of the moon, so he had borrowed a school telescope and gone out to the lake, which was the largest area clear of trees without the lights of the city that he could find.

What he hadn't expected was for other idiots to be up and about.

Granted, they were a ways down the beach, but it was still enough of an annoyance for JD to be on his guard. What were they doing there in the first place, and what was with the big van? And was that...what was that? Fire? Was he trying to light something?

JD spun the telescope around and used it to get a much closer view of what the one guy was holding. A cherry bomb. Exactly what he needed right now.

Then another guy walked onto the scene, and JD swung the telescope over to see who it was. The newcomer was a Hammelite; he remembered seeing that face before. The name, though, continued to escape him.

Though a part of him knew he should just ignore them and go back to what he was doing, he could hardly just ignore people setting fireworks off while he was standing right there. So he abandoned the telescope--he was only going a few minutes away, it would be fine--and ran over to see what exactly was going on.

He slid to a stop in the sand in front of the two. "Is that what it looks like?" he asked, frowning. While he might ordinarily enjoy fireworks, he could hardly stand to get in more trouble this year. It would screw up his college admission!

"I don't think you're supposed to do that here." He knew he was being a stick-in-the-mud, but what was he supposed to do? Go to jail?

Jaythen practically jumped out of his skin when he heard someone talking to him. Not that he jumped out of his skin on a regular basis or anything… He glanced over his shoulder with wide eyes, wondering where the handcuffs were. But it was just a kid, and Jaythen even managed a smile once he stopped freaking out over being arrested. “Of course they’re illegal, that’s what makes them fun!” He handed one of them to the stranger. “I don’t know, I just bought fifty dollars’ worth.” He scratched the back of his head. “Can’t say I know how to light them though.” His cheesy grin said it all. He was a total moron.

And then out of the corner of his eye, Jaythen saw as yet another guy made an epic entrance via sliding to a stop in the sand. JT smirked at the newcomer. Did he had a huge sign on his van or something? Weren’t people supposed to assume people with mini-vans were soccer moms or pedophiles? There was something seriously wrong with these two. He threw an unlit cherry bomb at the third brunet in the vicinity. “Now you’re involved,” he shrugged, “might as well have fun.”

He took out the cheap lighter he bought at the convenience store as well, frowning deeply as it didn’t work. “Anyone else have a light on them?” Tonight wouldn’t get started until he could work this thing! A couple flicks later, and a flame erupted. Jaythen grinned broadly and lit the fuse of the cherry bomb, still holding it in his hand. He glanced at the other two. “Now what?”

JD almost fumbled the catch but managed to grab the cherry bomb cupped against his stomach. He frowned at it. He didn't want to be involved. Why had he come to see this idiot shoot off fireworks, anyway?

"Look, I came here to tell you that I was down there trying to do my homework, and if I don't manage to get this done then I am going to screw up my scholarship. I can't--what are you doing!?"

This last part was screamed as he watched the (apparent) idiot stand there with a lit cherry bomb, smiling as if nothing was wrong with the world.

"How about you try throwing it so it doesn't explode in your hand?" he said, only managing half sarcasm as his mind ran through the potential for this to turn into an emergency room run.

"Look, how about you just put all of this away and go so that no one gets hurt?"
