Caught in the Rain| Open

She had everything ready, from waterguns to waterballoons stashed around the hall. When the bell rang and any students hanging around in the teacher offices came out they were going to get soaked. The bright orange supersoaker had been spray painted a subtler shade of gray so that it wouldn't be quite as noticeable. Aki stood there waiting for her partner in crime, Ginny, to get here. She had all the supplies for her ready so that she could join in the super soaking fun. She wasn't in school for some reason or other and Aki would find any reason to skip class. Really, she didn't care too much for school. She was smart enough [when she bothered] and picked things up quickly. Even so she had a reputation for skipping class and didn't want her teachers looking for her.

She was hidden in a darkened doorway, one from a teacher who she didn't know and wasn't there at the moment. She was ready and wondering where her friend was. Okay, so she had to keep her wonderings in her mind very quiet, because she was sure Dr.Neville was nearby. If he had any idea she was here he would be out in a heartbeat with that look of his dragging her into a thousand years worth of detentions, which she would mostly likely skip in favor of parkour in town. Of course, he may not let her off campus so she would have to sneak and then if she got caught she'd be in even more trouble. She hadn't been in his office recently and didn't want to be back there [even though she knew at some point she would be.] Why did he have to be the only other telepath at Hammel? She let the grumbly thoughts tint her mind. But then she thought to the fun they were about to have supersoaking everyone who came by.

These people are going to feel as if they were caught in the rain. She thought privately to herself.

Once again, Romeo was lost.

It was supposed to be a relatively short trip. Just a quick trip to the main office after his English class to ask for a new copy of his schedule. Then he’d be on his way back to his dorm room to finish his homework from his study block until the end of lunch. He wouldn’t want Ms. Kateri furious at him for skipping on his work again after all. Being lost was not part of the plan. Not at all.

Despite going through his classes for about two or so weeks now, the boy still wasn’t familiar enough with his schedule to know what he needs to do and where he needs to be without looking at the said piece of paper every time the bell rings. While he’d probably say something along the lines of needing time to adjust and stuff, the real reason why he still hasn’t got his schedule memorized is because he doesn’t want to. Because he thinks the whole thing is stupid. And since he’ll be making his escape soon (he needed to adjust it a bit, since Autie said Gerri will come with them, not that he’s complaining), he doesn’t see the necessity of being all adjusted to the school anyway.

While the idea of going back to Ireland with his cousin is a fun thought, seeing the same door for the fifth time in the past half hour wasn’t. He’s wasting precious time and energy that he could’ve been using for his Math homework. Damn.

“Why can’t there be a map for the main office around here anyway?!” he shouted in his thick Irish accent. Almost ready to claw his (extremely) curly hair out, he walked towards the second hallway to his right, unaware of the soaking that’s most probably waiting for him.

Ginny sauntered down the hall, to all appearances completely at ease despite being in enemy territory.

Maybe enemy was stretching it. Hostile to her intentions, at least. She wasn't a student at Hammel but while Doc N couldn't banish her to detention he could tell her father. For that matter, her father could catch them. Or Chase.

It was a risk she was willing to take.

There was another form ahead of her, one she didn't recognize. Student, not teacher, and clearly lost. Damn. Christina's phasing would have been useful right about now, she could have headed him off. As it was she waited until he'd turned a corner before pulling out her phone and texted her younger friend.

omw. someone ahead of me. looks lost. get him good.

Her phone lit up, and she looked down at it. From Ginny: omw. someone ahead of me. looks lost. get him good. That was all the invitation she needed. She let her mind wander out slightly, feeling for where the person was. Definitely lost and ready for a soaking. Although Aki had wanted to wait until the bell rang to insure as much chaos as possible this would work nicely also. Once again closing off her mind she used just her ears to let the footsteps guide where she was going to need to aim. In her mind she counted down as if she were about to make a jump. The person was so close and she was very ready for this with a balloon that would burst any second and her water gun.

Half the fun of this anyway was listening and waiting, slowing her breath and her thoughts until she was totally focused on what she was doing, just like she was now. Everything was ready, and all it took was a target. “Why can’t there be a map for the main office around here anyway?!” He yelled in a thick accent she identified as Irish. Why did he have to be so loud? Oooh, he was getting an extra dose of soaking for that.

The balloon went first, crashing into the boy and spraying water all over. The super soaker in her hand was completely charged and filled to the brim, so she unleashed that upon him next. It only took a few moments to turn the nice dry hallway into a soaking mess, with the boy in the middle. His very very curly hair was dripping and a grin split Aki's face apart as she chuckled and stood there with the spray painted water gun in hand.

" Newsflash. The office has just installed a pool compliments of some really bored students." She commented. Ohh, she couldn't wait to soak a few more people if it was going to be this much fun. The copper haired girl made a slight evil smile as she looked to the cieling and acted like she did nothing.

“WOAH WOAH WOAH!” With a mix of surprise and annoyance washing over him (no pun intended) as the first water balloon hit, it was – unfortunately – the most articulate the Irish boy can be. Thinking that the worse has pass, in the few moments before the super soaker hit, he found himself rather thankful – only the back of his shirt and the garter of his boxers were wet. Sure they became extra heavy and clung on to his skin like hell, but at least he wasn’t dripping. It hasn’t been a week since that koi-pond incident; he’s fairly sure he’s not ready to take the plunge yet again.

But then again, since when did he have a say on how his life will go anyway?

Within moments of turning to the source of the water balloon, he found himself wet to the core. Now even the front of his shirt clung on to him, the water seeping inside his shorts and even to his socks. This is why he believes shoes and socks are impractical. Now his feet are going to smell.

“That. Wasn’t. So. Nice.” Romeo tried to pace himself, taking in deep breaths in an effort to calm himself down. He was so soaked that his hair’s gone down to cover his eyes even. Normally he’d just let someone slide if he found out that she’s a girl, but this was just too much. “Is this your idea of fun?” he asked with his fists clenched, “Well then let me show you mine too.”

Overkill as it may, Romeo went on and used his powers, going from a wet Irish boy to a relatively imposing metal golem. A few rips and tears appeared on his shirt in the process, but it’s a small price to pay he says.

Ginny watched as the boy turned around a corner, and then there was the expected, beautiful sound of splashing water and surprised shrieking.

Good job She typed, pressing send before slipping her phone back into her pocket. She couldn't wait to see the look on the victim's face; she grinned as she imagined this, surprise and disbelief. It was possible that he would be too stunned to retaliate, but she couldn't count on that; Christina and Clarity had both sought vengeance upon Ginny and Kateri for the water balloons back in March, after all. However, they'd had one advantage that this boy didn't have: they weren't trapped.

He was.

She rounded the corner herself, smirking with self-congratulatory pleasure. It might have been misplaced, considering that she'd done nothing except alert Aki that the boy was approaching, but she felt as if she had some hand in his soaking regardless.

"Like our new cooling system?" She quipped, placing her hands on her hips as she blocked the other two from leaving. She took stock of the guns and balloon ammo by her friend; very well equipped. She just needed to get past the first victim. Or maybe Aki would be kind and toss her a gun.

As she spoke, the boy did, as well, his words echoing ominously.

Oh, shit.

They had pranked the wrong Hammel student.

Christina's phasing would have been really useful right now.

"Whoa, there, what is this? Make a Hulk, just add water?"

Sometimes she really would have been better off controlling her mouth.

Oh shit, they'd just pissed off a fucking Golemn. Aki's stern self control was gone for an instant and a wave of white hot fear coursed over her, and maybe those around her. But she shut it down immediately and put on her game face. Whatever this was unless this kid was really good it couldn't last too long. Then a super soaking was in order.......again. Aki carefully picked up the extra gun she had and threw it towards Ginny.

" Catch!" She yelled at the girl. Her shorter body darted around as she picked waterballoons from hidden places and hurled them at the metal monster kid. Jeeze! She had never seen a power like this before. He was a silvery blue thing, and from the waves she was picking up from him absolutely pissed! Oh shit. If I can hear him then Doc can too... she thought. That was just great. Pick the wrong person to piss off and then the funs over too soon.

Her phone vibrated and she skipped around again, reading the text and letting her fingers fly a reply back telling Ginny where all the waterballoons were stashed. There were hidden ones all over the hallway out of sight just for the reason of fights like this. Except her prey wasn't running away. Instead it was hulking before her in a mass of shiny person who was extremely unhappy looking.

" Ginny, I think we should test how long it will take to make Metal Man rust!" She shouted to her friend, dredging up the only thing she could think of as a slight undercurrent of fear made the rest of her normally so organized, adrenaline addicted brain frizz.

Romeo’s rather thankful that voluntary control over the activation of his powers had gone rather well. In the short span of time that he’s been enrolled in the Institute, he’s managed to easily tap on that crucial aspect of his ability, effectively making sure that he can sleep on a bed with a proper foundation now and not just on a couple of mattresses stacked on top of each other. He just has to will it to happen, and it will.

Unfortunately for the boy, moving in such a state is a whole thing entirely.

At his transformed state, he nearly doubles in weight, which means moving quickly and swiftly is not an option, at least not currently. If anything, he’s more like a statue than a lethal robot of the future. He had hoped that changing would intimidate the pesky girl and her companion; but alas, such is not the case. If anything, it only fueled their prank further.

Bollocks.

“Ugh! Stop it!” he said as he slowly paced towards his aggressors, using his arms to shield his eyes from the torrent of water balloons. Every step he took sounded very much like a thud, the tiles cracking just slightly underneath his (bare) feet. “I DON’T RUST!” he growled. Not that it particularly offended him, but with the mood he’s in, you really can’t blame him. (Not to mention people, or at least his training classmates, have been asking that about him since last week. It’s frustrating telling people that he doesn’t rust and yes, he does take baths everyday).

The growling continued for quite a bit, until Romeo felt that familiar sensation in his stomach that told him he had to change back quick else he risk falling unconscious on the hallways. How convenient.

Within moments he’s back to his old self – his shirt tattered, his pants (miraculously) torn just right to protect his dignity but still very much wet. He unceremoniously flopped on the floor, holding his arm out as he tried to catch his breath. “Give me a moment,” he said in between deep breaths, “I’ll get you in a bit.”

Ginny made a grab for the gun Aki tossed her way, outstretched fingers just brushing against the plastic before it dropped to the floor, skidding underneath Romeo.

"Aw, damn." She muttered. There went her weapon, conveniently into the hands of the enemy. Not that he was much of an enemy, really; his pleas for them to stop were so pathetic that a pinprick of guilt had formed in her stomach, a pinprick that began to grow as he shifted back from terrifying monster to human and flopped onto the ground.

She loved pranks and was generally rather indiscriminate in regards to victims, but she didn't fancy herself a bully, and that was what Romeo's reaction made her feel like. She preferred her victims capable of fighting back, much like Christina and Clarity, not sobbing on the floor. Granted, metal boy had threatened vengeance, but it was so half-hearted and defeated in tone that she could hardly take him seriously, instead feeling a twinge of sympathy.

He was probably one of those students who was always pushed around and picked on, and so this prank, though not meant maliciously, was only one straw among many and had pushed him over the edge.

Any other student would have made better use of having a scary metal form, but the fact that even then he was so sad, well. She ignored the text from Aki about the hidden balloon stashes and offered the poor kid before them an apologetic smile. She hoped her dad didn't expect her to replace his wardrobe; it wasn't really her fault he'd ruined his clothes.

"Jeez, dude, it's just a little water." She pointed out, "You're not gonna melt." And he'd already said he didn't rust, so what was the problem, if not that he couldn't handle a little prank. And she tried to back off people who couldn't handle pranks and sarcasm.

"Forget revenge, why don't you join us?" She nudged the watergun she'd fumbled toward him, a potentially dangerous move given the fact he'd already promised vengeance. Not that she really believed he would go through with it.

It seemed that it was over much too soon, and he was laying there in a heap of wet person. His curly hair was matted down and he looked rather....dejected. Aki wasn't one to lie, so she didn't. The girl walked forward, noticing that Ginny had pushed her watergun towards him when she missed it. Eh, why not. She poked him with one of her flip flopped feet, then moved down so she was eye level with him.

" You know, normally I could care less how you feel, but you seem like a pretty nice person other than having a really thick accent and the fact that you turn into a scary ass metal dude when your pissed. Soo, if you join us, fine. If not, you can go on your way as long as you warn no one. IF you join us and stab us in the back while we prank others, I will hunt you down while you sleep and find something suitably mean and nasty to do. Kay?" The last word was such a light hearted, almost innocent syllable. Then there was the fact that it was filled with enough sarcasm to cover a football field or two.

Aki looked at Golem [as she had decided to call him since, well, he could be a golem if he wanted to.] She didn't really feel bad for him, but more.....okay, ya, she felt a little bad. But it was still hilarious and she wasn't about to end the pranking with him by any means. They were just lucky no teachers had showed up yet.

Had the boy been privy to both Ginny and Aki’s thoughts, he would’ve been more pissed than ever. Sure his pleads were rather relatively pathetic, but being seen as the one picked on by most people? That’s just outrageous. Sure his brother teased him almost every time, but that was Othello – he’s a tool that likes no one. It’s just that he was caught unaware. That his powers proved to be rather difficult to maneuver with. That it makes him incredibly tired sustaining such a form.

But he is, in no way, weak.

He shook his head for a while to get the water off his hair, very much like what a wet dog might do. He managed to get a good chunk off him (he didn’t care if his two aggressors got sprayed or anything; serves them right for standing too close) but still his bangs hung heavily in front of him. Damn curls.

As Ginny spoke, Romeo shifted slightly in order to confirm that indeed, the water gun is safely lodged in between his thighs. “Join you? he repeated tentatively. He tried thinking of the things he could do, weighing his options if he went this way or that. When Aki spoke and reiterated what Ginny has said previously, the boy has finally made his decision.

“Well, firstly, don’t mock my accent,” he said, sending a glare towards Aki as he stood up, hand firmly on the water gun trigger. “Next, I totally do not appreciate the condescending tone you gave me. I’m not a damsel in distress you know.” He totally twisted it, yes, but he’d care less. “And lastly, well, ‘stab us in the back while we prank others’. Since you’re technically not pranking anyone but me at the moment-” He didn’t bother finishing his statement as he went on and pressed the trigger, spraying the two as he ran back to the water balloon stashes he saw while he walked towards the two earlier.

Hopefully he can fare better at round two.

For a brief moment, while Romeo hesitated, Ginny thought perhaps he would accept the offer and ally himself with the two pranksters. She and Aki were a pretty good team; not as good as if Mia were there, but Mia wasn't that interested in such low-tech mischief. Aki, however, was, and she was good at it.

But her assumption was wrong.

"Aw, hell." She cursed as Romeo turned the gun on the two girls, soaking her shirt. She didn't mind getting wet (and had in fact counted on it, though she hoped her phone would survive this, a belated worry.) but she did mind being tricked. She liked to think that she was pretty smart, and a very good judge of people, which usually meant that she was far more paranoid than was necessary. And look what happened the one time she decided to give someone the benefit of the doubt? He took advantage of it, that was what.

"You're not gonna get away with that." She warned, dodging toward the nearest stack of ammo balloons, hoping to get to them before he got to the pile he was going for.

Truthfully, probably none of them were going to get away with this; they were making rather a loud racket, and they were in the halls right outside the staff offices, but she wasn't thinking about that right now. No, her only thought was to get back at the kid who had taken her in with his pathetic act. No way was she buying that again.

The water covered her and she knew she shouldn't have trusted him after they had gone and soaked him. Golem was going to get on her nerves really quickly now, and round two was not going to go well for him. It would be nice if she or Ginny had a power that let them move things without touching them, but that obviously wasn't going to happen anytime soon. So they had to make due with what they could do. Aki shoved her phone in her back pocket and hoped it wouldn't be too affected by the coming showers. The nearest flowerpot was stocked with waterballoons, and although her water-gun was still more than half full [those supersoakers went a loong way], she wasn't going to use it all on him. She she grabbed the balloons and eagerly chucked them at the boy as he made a move for their supplies.

Aki wasn't going down without a fight, and was surprised that none of the teachers had come out of thier offices yet. With the racket they were making she had expected it a few minutes ago. But hey, maybe they didn't care. She continued to fling the water balloons at the drenched, curly haired boy until she ran out and had to move to the next station to get more.

As this was the first time Romeo ever had a Supersoaker in his hand (he was only privy to those 50mL or less water guns in the past), the was delightfully surprised on how long the thing can actually go. He hasn’t released the trigger ever since he decided to double cross extract revenge on his assailants, and yet it hasn’t stopped squirting yet. He does know that it wouldn’t go on forever, so he has to find a way to refill it or get to the stash he saw a while back.

And by gods was his luck terrible. The stash was empty.

Cursing under his breath, he hid behind a nook in the wall as he scrambled to see if any balloons were left. None. So they must’ve scrapped the bin empty before they moved forward then. Or maybe the bin wasn’t filled with balloons in the first place, that he was just imagining things. Great. Just…great.

He couldn’t remember if there were anymore a few paces back, but he’s fairly sure the load on the water gun he has is almost depleted. And the nearest bathroom and supply closet (the two places he thinks he can refill the said gun) are ‘behind enemy lines’, so to speak. He can wait for them to run out of ammo balloons, hoping they keep their places and don’t charge at his little not-so-much-of-a-hiding-spot, but what’s the fun in that?

Grinning widely, Romeo decided to make a mad dash for it. Shielding his eyes with an arm, he promptly ran towards the supply closet, waving his Supersoaker wildly (hoping it’d hit someone). “That the best you can do?” he grinned, taunting the two. He was dripping, but so were they.

He was almost to the said room when he tripped, falling flat on his face. At least his nose didn’t bleed.

It truly was a miracle that no faculty had come by yet, Ginny reflected as she tossed a water balloon toward Rome. Her hair was dripping around her face, her t-shirt clinging to her skin, but that was no reason to admit defeat.

"Oh, no, you don't!" She warned, ready to tackle him as he raced past them for the supply closet, but the floor must have been too wet to run on, as he slipped and crashed to the floor.

She started forward, concern flashing across her face, before she remembered that he was a traitor. This was probably a ploy to get them to let their guard down. Well, it wasn't going to work this time.

"You're not gonna fool us twice," She smirked, grabbing a second balloon and lobbing it towards the boy, but her aim was off, and instead of hitting Rome it flew toward one of the office doors...
