Flu Event: Can I have a Tissue? (Fievel)

It was odd. Jen didn't get sick. She was a nurse for crying out loud. Nurses were not supposed to get sick. She was supposed to help the people who got sick. This was something that was quite new for her. Instead of helping the paitents and giving them medicine at her job she was ushered home.

Her boss wouldn't hear of anything else.

The only trouble was, even though Jen felt like crap, she knew she didn't have cold medicine. She also knew she had no vix or aleve, or even chicken noodle soup. Chicken Noodle Soup was the best cure all.

Yes a nurse is saying that. It might not be the most medically involved, but it was tradition. Sometimes tradition worked in your favor.

That is why she was at the store. To get supplies, and chicken noodle soup. Not to mention tissues, lots and lots of tissues. Her nose was running like crazy. Snuffling it all in she went to the tissue isle.

She put her hand on the box at the same time another did. "scuse meh," Rubbing her nose on her elbow she looked at the man that had the box. "I'm svk." Uh-oh... was she about to sneeze?

Feivel hated being sick.

Well, most people hated being sick, but Feivel really hated it. He'd been sent home from work; stringers were taking over his writing and he could do the editing from home. That was, if he was well enough to do so. At the moment, he felt like a tree that was halfway chopped down. He was shaky, and wondering when he'd come crashing down.

Of course, Gideon was no help. Despite the younger twin being well, he hadn't returned from the supermarket with the right medicine, and had completely forgotten about tissues. So Feivel had hauled himself out of bed to get the stuff himself. (He'd also had to go to the ATM, since he'd apparently had less money in his wallet than he'd thought.)

In the grocery store, he knew he was a spectacle, nose and eyes red, pale, and his giant blue butterfly wings probably looking limper than usual. He went straight to the aisle with the tissues and reached for a box, accidentally bumping into a tiny woman who looked just about as miserable as he did. "Sorreh about thah. I'm sick too. It's goin' around."

If they were both feeling better, Fives would probably be flirting. She was pretty cute, despite looking pretty run-down.

" ah...ah...ah choo!" Jen grimaced and clenched her eyes shut as she sneezed. Sniffling after she was done she pulled out a running tissue she had and used it.

Being sick was nasty business.

Giving an apologizing look to the man she blew into the tissue then wrapped it up and put it back into the over sized pocket of the hoodie she was wearing over her scrubs. "I hatz cols".

She was just slumped in nature. Her whole body smaller then normal. Jen looked down and desperately wanted to be in her pajamas and fuzzy bunny slippers at home right now. Lots of fuzzy blankets would help too. She made a note to buy one of those as well.

Looking up at him her eyes widened at the sight of the blue wings. They were slumped but they were definitively wings. They were also blue. Giving a small sniffle she wondered if she was hallucinating. That would make sense if she was. She just didn't realize she was that sick. "s'ok...I mustve caght it from te patents."

Grabbing a different box of tissues Jen nodded. "Forgie meh phor askin but is te wings eal?" Jen squinted at them and shook her head. "or am I halllucinating?" If she was she needed to go to the doctors. Quickly. "Am I tat sick?"

The reporter didn't exactly understand what the woman was saying, but he pulled the plastic package of tissues he carried out of his coat pocket. He was down to his last few, but it looked like this lady needed them just as much as him, at least until she could by a box of her own. "Here. Take one."

"Patents?" Feivel's own nose and throat were stuffy too, but it took noticing that she was wearing scrubs pants--looked like pajamas, to be honest--to figure out that she meant patients. "Oh, patients. Are you a doctor? 'cause I don't know where I got the flu from, but my boss says it's been going around."

When the woman noticed his wings, he looked over his shoulder at them and half-heartedly fluttered them, widening them to almost their full wingspan before letting them droop against his back again. "They're real. When I'm feeling better I can fly too. But I don't even want to try now." Feivel gave another brave attempt at stretching them out, but he really wasn't in any shape to be showing off with them. (He'd have retracted them into his back entirely if that wasn't so painful.)

"Yeah, I'm a meta-human." As if that wasn't painfully obvious. He managed to force an almost-genuine pleasant grin, though. "But I can't read your thoughts or anything. I just have the wings."

Jen nodded gratefully, taking one of the tissues and blowing her nose clearing it of the mucus and snot. Gods she hated colds. "Thanks" Blowing her nose again she smiled gratefully and crumpled up the tissue putting it in her hoodie pocket. "That was nice"

Jen nodded, patients were where she most likely got it. She hated that she was so vulnerable and had always tried to be as germ free as possible. In actuality her tries had all been failed attempts. "no...I'm a nurse." Jen blinked looking at him. "It has, Many of the patents have been coming in with cols."

Jen blinked, eyes wide as she stared at the wings. "Don't blame you..." From the looks of it he was just as sick, that would have been bad in the most honest sense. Exhausting yourself when you were sick was bad enough. She would never recommend flying. "Pretty..."

Jen nodded at him. " I see." So he was a meta? That made the wings make sense then. If she was hallucinating then that would have been bad. "Sorry for being rude, I wan'ted to make sure i wasn't hallucinating."

Honestly, that made Feivel chuckle. People had asked him before if they were hallucinating when they saw his wings, but it was almost entirely only when Gideon brought someone home from a party who was wasted in one way or another. It was actually kind of funny, because a few girls had seen him in the kitchen the next morning and assumed he was Gideon, only to ask how he'd grown wings overnight.

"Nah, I'm really a butterfly man." Any other day, and the reporter would have chosen different words, but it was obvious he wasn't intimidating or even weirding out the nurse. He sniffled again and pulled out another tissue for himself. It was hard to feel self-conscious about his wings when he was feeling so run-down in general.

And though he wanted to go back to bed, Feivel didn't excuse himself right away. At least he was getting some sympathy here, and he knew he wasn't going to get any from his brother. (Though he had been considering giving Gideon money to get them dinner from the Italian place that had really good soup. So long as he came back with soup, Giddy could get pizza for himself.) "I'm Feivel Silverstein. Please forgive me for not shaking your hand."
