FLU EVENT; I think I'm catching something *open*

Russell coughed into a black handkerchief; it came back with snot on it. “God! I hate being sick!” he growled softly, pushing the ‘chief into his pocket. He was searching for the right medicine. He had never really gotten sick, having taken care of himself so well, but he had to kiss that girl with the germs. How sad was that? One measly kiss and he was coughing up a storm three days later. It was amazing really, how the hell did he take care of himself now? He didn’t know what kind of medicine to buy or what to do.

His friend’s mothers always told him to stay in bed and drink lots of liquids. He didn’t suppose drinking liquids included alcohol. He caught his mirror image, his eyes were wide with black rimmed around them and he had a pasty pale pallor that didn’t suit him at all. His shoulder length hair had grown greasy, he suddenly felt disgusted with himself and he could see why everybody kept giving him looks. He looked like a homeless person in nice clothes.

He sneezed into his sleeve which followed for lung racking coughing. He tilted his head to clear out his throat and it didn’t work. He stood right next to a medicine store and walked in. What the hell was he supposed to buy? Diet pills? No. Supplementary pills? No. Steroids? They sold those in stores? He pulled off a box of vitamins, children, and stared at the back of it, trying to read it through is watering eyes. He felt someone bump into the back of him. He didn’t have the strength or the energy to yell, so he turned around slowly to see who it was.

Unlike a lot of people around her, Jalen’s immune system hadn’t taken a hit. She was at the mall, doing some shopping, a happy smile on her face. Life was good. Things had turned around, aside from not being accepted into any college’s and having to figure out what life was to be like after graduation, after everyone she had come to love left her for something new and exciting. But for her, there was also something comforting about staying put in Pilot Ridge and finding herself, do something with her music.

Earbuds in place, Jalen was singing a bit to herself as her fingertips grazed the various bottles of eyeliner in the makeup aisle. Whatever happened to just one brand? Now there was the decision between liquid and stick, different colors. She sighed, settling for plain black, liquid. It would serve her just fine. Her fine tuned hearing picked up on someone coughing their guts out, and she slipped off her earphones and headed to the medicine aisle.

“You doing alright?” She asked once she was close enough to the guy. He looked horrible, and Jalen winced slightly as he seemed about to sneeze, or start crying. Her bright brown eyes scanned over the various bottles, before taking down a box. He didn’t seem to pay her attention, so she pushed the box into him a bit. “Those children’s vitamins won’t do much, even if you took the whole thing.” She said, pushing the box into his hands. “All in one, night time and day time pills. Along with some scalding hot tea and soup, should do the trick.” Jalen wasn’t shy at all.
