Rosie had never been one to enjoy cold weather: It made her feel perpetually tired and miserable, and she'd always have trouble shaking the chill out of her bones, no matter how many extra layers she piled on. She'd long for the days of hot suns and warm breezes, when she didn't feel constantly cold and downcast. And so when spring finally came to Hammel, pushing away the last remnants of winter, her spirits rose higher than they had in months. The weather was still fairly cool, but it was tolerable. She had tried to get a moment to herself so she could fully enjoy with warmer weather, but it felt like she was buried underneath the schoolwork she had. So, at the first opportunity she had, she'd dumped her stuff in her dorm and had headed down the the courtyard. There were several students scattered about, reading or studying or simply chatting with their peers, as they too took advantage of the the weather,
Peeling off her cardigan, she dropped it onto the slightly damp grass and settled herself down on top of it, smoothing her skirt down. Rosie turned her face up towards the sun and grinned, making the most of the weather while she could, for spring brought rain chilly breezes along with its brilliant sun. Leaning back on her elbows, she stretched her legs and, upon hearing the soft chime of her cell phone, pulled from her pocket. She squinted at the screen slightly, using a hand to shield her eyes from the sun, trying to read the message on the screen. The message was from one of Rosie's old friends, the ones she had before she went to Hammel. Unfortunately, the year round school had made it difficult to remain as close to them as she once was. They still exchanged phone calls and emails every now and again, but none of them had the relationship they once did. Still, she enjoyed catching up with them every now and again and, brow knitted, she began her reply.
It seemed however, that her body (or rather, her powers) had other plans for her. Rosie's eyes, one moment concentrated on her phone screen, unfocused and slid shut, and her arm folded underneath her as her head met with the soft grass and she fell asleep.
When she awoke almost two hours later (according to the annoyed message her friend had sent her, bemoaning the lack of reply), Rosie could've kicked herself. She hadn't made herself fall asleep in a few weeks now, and she had hoped it was a sign that she was gaining more control over her powers. She pushed herself into a seated position and brushed the grass off of her tights. Her face felt hot and her were flushed pink slightly, although she wasn't quite sure if it was a result of her embarrassment or forgetting to put on suncream. She made to gather her cardigan but stopped herself. The sun was still out however, and seeing as her little impromptu nap cut her time in the sun rather short, she thought she deserved at least a few more minutes outside.
