Cole smiled as they were set up to begin the second half of the makeshift football game. The boys of team Cole were raring to go at it again, but team Zac had to make a last minute replacement. Cole huddled his team, "They get the ball to start this half, boys. But we've got fresh meat on the field! Let's show them just how football should be played." Cole said confidently.
As they broke the huddle, Cole launched the ball into the air. The seven others that made up his team were in a full-on sprint downfield, ready to annihilate whoever caught the ball. It wasn't until the new player Zac had forced into the game began his run upfield that Cole realized this "fresh meat" had some speed in him. He flawlessly blew passed all of the others, leaving only Cole between he and scoring. Cole broke down, shuffling his feet and ready to make a touchdown saving tackle. Then he was looking up at the sky.
Zac had come running in and provided a monster block for the redheaded boy. It took a moment for Cole to gather himself after Zac put him on the ground. That was not something easily done and Zac only got away with it because Cole was focused. As Cole got up, Zac lingered next to him, "Looks like that fresh meat just kicked you in the balls, Kessler."
"Don't count on that cheap shot happening again, Ru-Ru." Cole said as he readied for the change of possession. The ball flew into the air and Cole took it himself; running straight forward, full speed, and with purpose. He ran into Gene, bowled him over and kept going. Same thing with Zac as the heir couldn't manage to tackle the Electrokinetic. Then their was only Migs, who was about the same size as Zac, only he was a density manipulator. His power went into full effect as Cole met him head on. To Cole it was like running head first into an aluminuim wall, and he crumbled to the ground.
He popped right back up and got under center. He snapped the ball almost instantly and dropped back to throw. He waited a few seconds and tucked the ball down and took off running. Almost unseen as he just waltzed into the endzone, "Where's your D, LaRousse!?" Cole mocked the heir. Then the second half proceeded on much like the first half. Teams were tied up at twenty-all, "Next score wins!" Cole yelled as he waited for Zac to get under center.
Fourth down, this was all or nothing for team Zac. Zac knew deep down that if they didn't score the game was over because Cole had been smart about his plays for the last few possessions. Zac took the snap and dropped back. He watched as his receivers were covered well downfield and he had no option but to take off running. He juked away from Jeff, and then from Kaleb. Zac was running through open field, twenty yards, fifteen, ten, five. Then he was on his back, the ball loose in the endzone and Cole jumped on it. "What happened?" Zac said weakly, obviously feeling the effect of a big hit.
"You fumbled on the two after Cole hit you." Jeff said as he walked over from the celebration. "Which means no redemption drive for you if we score." Jeff laughed and pointed back at Cole, "And you'll be Kessler's slave. C'mon, Zac, you can't let that happen."
Zac looked at Jeff, "Who's team are you on, man?" The Prince laughed as they took up positions to defend for the next series.
Cole's team huddled, "Kaleb, look for me deep. Everyone else, hold your blocks and let's win this game!" Cole smiled at the shared enthusiasm of his team, "Alright, hands in. WIN ON THREE. ONE! TWO! THREE!"
"WIN!" They broke the huddle and hustled to the line. Cole sat undercenter before calling the audible "X-Thirty-Seven! X-Thirty-Seven!" The backfield shuffled around and Cole moved out to a wide receiver slot. He looked for Zac as Kaleb started the QB Cadence. His view switched from Zac to Kaleb, and with a nod, Kaleb snapped the ball.
Cole sprinted toward Zac, forcing the heir to cover him. But Cole was the faster of the two, outrunning Zac as he caught the ball. Cole celebrated early as he crossed the plane of the goalline and won his team the game. The others ran downfield, hooping and hollering and jumping all around showing their pride and joy that they'd won. Cole stopped and looked back at Zac, the heir's head hanging low in disappointment. He walked over to him, "Helluva game, Ru-Ru. Y'all made it alot closer than I thought it would be. Good teammate choices, bro." Cole said as he tossed him the ball. "As close of a game as that was, I say we forget about the bet. I know you couldn't stand me being your boss."
