You're An Ass {Zac}

The paper bounded onto Naomi's desk, and she sighed. She unraveled it, pretending that it wasn't more interesting than the history tome sitting on the table. A quick scan. Familiar writing. Wonderful. Naomi quickly drew out her pen, quickly wrote upon it, fastened a paperclip to it, and flicked it behind her. A slight direction of magnetism, and it would land perfectly in front of her target, or at least close enough.

The message should be clear enough:


You're an ass, Ru-ru.

Zac’s face brightened when the paper he crumpled and threw halfway across the room began floating back towards him. And there he was thinking Naomi would just ignore it and leave him bored for the rest of the period. It’s not Ms. Singleton’s fault he says; no matter how much she tries to be energetic and gleeful about the lesson, English literature, particularly those written during the Victorian era, just doesn’t seem all that interesting for the pompous teen.

The teen happily grabbed the floating paper-paperclip combo, took his pen out and began writing his little blurb, biting his lip to prevent himself from chuckling loudly at the sheer stupidity of his question.

Still doesn’t answer my question Naomi. You slept with Cole last night, didn’t you?

And the paper was back. Naomi stared at the front of the room, momentarily debating whether or not she should pay attention. Her fingers were already unwrapping, and her eyes were drifting down.

Yes, this was definitely from Zac. A quick write, and another paper-clip aided missile was sneaking back.



A lady never tells. Though I do believe that's your dream, not mine.

Zac pouted for a while when the paperclip missile hit him straight on his forehead. Damn seatmate distracting him by asking all sorts of stupid questions. To hell does he care what Ms. Singleton said five minutes ago. Didn’t she notice that listening was so not his priority ever since the second week of class?

Dream already happened. DUH. Knew he's you’re your type all along. Didn’t peg you to be a cradle-snatcher though. Or something along those lines.

And off the paper went. Hopefully it won’t hit Ms. Singleton’s distracting butt.

Naomi actually started taking some notes, though she wasn't sure she actually was even trying to follow the conversation now. The notes would likely be more useful later though, if she actually decided that there was something worthwhile.

Another note.

Another response. This one sliding to hit Zac's foot.


I actually prefer my men more mature. I'm afraid you're completely out of luck. I'm sure you and Kessler can console one another.

Notes have long been abandoned by Zac during English class. He knows his grammar rules, figures of speech and a few more technical terms here and there already, so he doesn’t see the whole point on still taking down notes. They’re doing more reading anyway. True, Ms. Singleton’s saying a few terms than he thinks would be useful for the quiz happening at the end of the quiz, but he figures he’d just borrow one of his classmate’s notebook. Naomi’s, to be exact.

Aww shucks. You two would’ve looked spectacular. Decided sleeping with Kessipoo wouldn’t help you and your scheme?

Not that he knows anything about it. He just feels like she’s up to something, so might as well try.

And yes, he threw it so that the crumpled paper’s trajectory would hit Naomi at the back of her head. His foot oddly hurt after all.

The back of the head, honestly? Zac was lucky that Naomi appreciated him, otherwise he'd be assaulted by paperclips. Actually, that was probably an overstatement, as Naomi was working on developing her temper into a more icy exterior. So she instead simply turned and glared coldly at him, before focusing on the teacher for several minutes.

Let him sweat.

Though in addition to notes, Naomi also produced a response, which she launched back at Zac, aiming for his desk.

Now who said I was scheming, Ru-ru? I'm simply attending school here just like you. I grow concerned over you though. You wouldn't be scheming yourself? Perhaps in a romantic sense? I thought I made my intentions quite clear earlier.

Zac was a little taken aback by the sudden glare, but the effect waned after a few seconds. He might’ve been battered and bruised lately, but his ego’s still in relatively one piece, making it a little bit harder to intimidate him. And besides, he’s spent a surprisingly large amount of time with the Brit lately for him to be affected by her supposed cold exterior.

In short, Zac dares Naomi to try better than that.

Scheming to get you? Who’d be dumb enough to do that? And besides, you totally aren’t my type. Not in this lifetime, nor in the next.

And because the boy’s getting rather creative (and confident ‘cause Ms. Singleton’s still not noticing what they’re doing, despite the snickering all around them), the mimic decided to make a plane out of his note and throw it towards Naomi.

Hopefully it won’t overshoot.

A plane? Naomi nearly put her head into her arms at that. Instead, she deftly snatched it out of the air. Unfortunately, this was the first time that the teacher noticed their note passing, and she leveled a look at Naomi that suggested that such things were most certainly "not allowed." Naturally Naomi responded with a blank look that indicated she hadn't the foggiest idea what could be the matter.

A few moments while Naomi read, then responded, knowing exactly what to say. She opted for a much more traditional method, actually passing the note back through several students.


I do suppose I'm not "bright" enough for you.

Time to test some rumors, or more accurately "Rumor."

Though he wouldn’t admit it, it was indeed Zac’s intention to grab their English teacher’s attention somehow. And well, he actually succeeded. He had to bite his lip and pinch his stomach just to keep himself from laughing really. Naomi was hilarious in her own right, but Ms. Singleton was just epic. For some reason, the whole angry-teacher face just doesn’t sit with her. Perhaps he should do the whole note thing more often.

Upon receiving the note, Zac mouthed what seems like a polite ‘Thank You’ and a wink, to which the girl aptly responded with a snarl. People these days really, he thought, shaking his head.

When he finally opened the note, well, he didn’t know how to respond. Caught unaware, he didn’t know whether he should feel angry or if he should feel, well, indifferent. He heard there’s a ‘rumor’ running around detailing his late night escapades to his Glowworm’s room, but hasn’t checked it out himself yet. (She’s one of the few girls who talks to him anyway, cooks for him even. And she’s his daughter).

Darn it. Why do all of these have to pop up when his ban from technology’s not lifted yet?

“Bright” enough? What are you getting at? Stella’s a friend. BUT DON’T GET ANY IDEAS. I'M WARNING YOU.

In retrospect, those last words may have come a bit too strong.

Oh dear, look at all those capital letters and underlining. That last bit almost came off as threatening too. Clearly someone had struck a nerve. Naomi was about to write a response when she heard the teacher announcing the end of class, along with the tell tale response of a bell ringing {bit of an assumption on my part, but I'm going with it}. A quick scrawl then, just a few words, and Naomi was gathering her things.

She strolled over to LaRousse, handed him the note personally, smiled and walked away, not wanting to give him the chance to interrupt and ruing his surprise.

I'll just pay her a "friendly" visit then.
