Being able to text with a thought was awesome.

Mia was lying on her bed, watching youtube videos while running a decrypter program that would let her know, mathmatically, why My Little Pony was so huge with men over 25, and because her foot was against her phone, she could text.

Noboy multitasks like a tehcnopath multitasks.

Mia had been putting off telling Ginny about her plans. It was... uncomfortable. It was bad enough her and jonah couldn't talk now without it getting mushy. There was no way she could handle that with her friend.

Don't think I'm going to University of Vermont after all. King was none too keen.

Ginny was sprawled out on the floor of her father's living room when her pocket began to vibrate. Out came the phone, and she flipped it open, barely stifling a shriek of surprise when she saw who had texted.

She quickly typed back a reply, looking furtively over her shoulder in case her dad decided to waltz into the room.

No, what's up? She typed, hitting send almost as soon as Mia's next message came through.

Wait say what. Why not?

Mia's toe twitched as her phone buzzed, and Mia hit pause on Applejack's face. It sucked, now she came to think about it. She'd honestly been more than a little distracted with Jonah, and all she'd wanted to do was stay with him around but for all her boasts of not needing friends, Ginny was important.

Wasting my potential, she sent. Also not wanting to be holding me back. Chivalry shit. You know I told you he offered to sleep on the floor when I got claustrophobic.

With a sigh Mia rolled onto her back. I even tried taking my top off and he still argued with me.

Ginny was surprised that Jonah thought he had any sort of authority over Mia's decision; she was less surprised that Mia was allowing it. The technopath claimed a level of independence Ginny didn't always believe.

Bossy of him. You agreed? What're you doing instead?

It might not be the best of ideas to question her friend's decision, but Ginny was in too much shock to think her message through before sending it.

Mia couldn't read thoughts but even should couldn't miss the surprise in Ginny's reply. Scowling, the technopath got up and went to Cable's tank, lifting her sleepy python over her shoulders. Better. Defensiveness defused, Mia grabbed her phone.

Shouldn't have told him I'd had offers for the Ivies, she texted back. He said he'd come with me wherever. I figured we could travel for a bit. Take a year off on the money Larousse owes me.

A year was a long time. Think your dad would let you join us for a few months in summer or is he scared I'd sell you to white slave traders/

The mention of her father had Ginny glancing over her shoulder once again, as if the mere texting about him would summon him into the room, to discover her in flagrant disobedience.

Yeah uhh I'm still not sposed to tlk to you. She typed back furiously, hitting send so fast she wasn't sure her spelling was accurate.

Once that confession was out of the way she slowed down a bit. He's pretty ticked at you. I'll ask my mom.

And just in case James had mentioned The Incident to Lucy she wouldn't tell the exact truth about her friend.

So year off. Where you going in that time? That not gonna be a prob when you do wanna degree?

Unseen by anyone but Cable, Mia raised an eyebrow. Ginny had never struck her as someone who'd have gone this long without telling her dad that she was in fact still in charge of who she was friends with. But then, Mia knew how important Dr Campbell was to Ginny, so she cut her some slack.

Figured she sent back. he had a speech and everything about it

But the prospect of having Ginny travel with her and Jonah outweighed the frustration the technopath felt towards James C so she tried to be encouraging.

do it! Mia didn't add the obvious 'I'll really miss you' because that was obvious. Why else would she have asked Ginny to come along at all if she wouldn't find it weird not to have her blonde friend around?

The next one didn't phase her. Some of the big ones will hold my place, she texted back, blissfully unaware at the irregularity in that. might not want to go. we'll c. Will be disappearing after graduation though.

Again, there was the silent 'so make sure you say goodbye'. Ginny was good at reading between the lines.

Ginny stared at the last text, surprised and concerned.

Disappearing? She flung back, feeling rather unsatisfied with text's ability to convey tone. No return address? No place I can write to? No cell?

This was all important to know; how was she to contact Mia to join her for part of her journey if the small technopath didn't even leave a forwarding address? She couldn't expect that Mi would be the one to contact her; surely her friend would be too distracted with Jonah.

I wish colleges would hold my place so I could go exploring She added, sighing wistfully. That wasn't going to happen, though.

Mia's face creased into a frown. You think I won't stay in contact? she sent back quickly, then sighed. Don't be a git, G. I'll have my phone. I'd rather chop my hand off then leave it.

Still, a part of her felt, well, happy that Ginny wanted to stay in contact enough to be upset at the thought of Mia just up and leaving. Though if she knew Ginny thought that she would be so preoccupied with Jonah she wouldn't have time for her other friends, she would have done something like hide Cable in the Campbell girl's sheets.

You have holidays, Mia replied, then smirked. I'll buy you a voodoo doll or something.

Oh yeah Ginny typed back, feeling remarkably silly about her worry; had she stopped to think it should have been obvious that Mia would never be without her cell phone. Or even a laptop, for that matter.

The comment about the voodoo doll caused her to smirk. A voodoo doll? Where are you and Jonah going again?

She didn't think she needed a silly superstitious doll to help her against anyone she didn't like, though perhaps that could be a fun toy to show off if she really wanted to creep someone out.

So when do we get together for the big send off?
