Cole never really had been one to read about Rumors or be involved in the gossip, but this time(and more than a few before that) it made specific mention of his best-bro. He'd almost spit his Dr. Pepper out as he read the screen on his laptop at the apartment. He quickly snatched his phone from his coffee table.

Message: Dude! What. The. F**k!? Rumor's been doggin' your ass like crazy here lately, man. What's this about you at whatsherface's dorm late the other night? Please, please, tell me you didn't...... Naomi said you go defensive about it when she asked you.

Cole sat his phone down and eagerly waited for a reply.

As part of his punishment, his use of his phone and laptop has been under strict monitors for about two months now. Laptop and internet use is limited to schoolwork-related stuff and the occasional emails to his father (most of which consists of pleas to do something about his prison-like situation). And while he still can send a text message every now and then, the fact that his phone is almost always with the technopath assigned to him means he’s really not enthusiastic about the whole thing.

So he was in his room that night, working on his macroeconomics homework when Henri (he claims they’re close enough to go with a first-name basis; they’ve been together for more than five weeks anyway) knocked on his door, telling him his phone buzzed.

“Anything of importance?” he said, a tinge of annoyance in his voice. “Nope. Just something from your old friend, Kessler was it?” Cole? What’s he need now?

He promptly snatched the phone from Henri’s outstretched hand and read. Seriously?

He knows exactly what Cole’s talking about (Naomi’s involvement was a huge give away), but he figures he figure out what Cole knew beforehand. He didn’t want to go give him things he didn’t (and shouldn’t) know. At least until later.

Cole's phone dinged and he paused his game and sat down the controller. He grabbed his phone and stood up, walking to the refrigerator and grabbing a soda as he read Zac's reply.

Message: Don't give me that bullshit, Ru....... You know damn good and well which room I'm talking about. Why else would I have texted you, bro? Honestly, if it was anything else I would have just waited until tomorrow at school.

Side note, Ru-Ru, next time you ask someone if they slept with me I'm kickin' you in the balls.

Zac’s eyes widened when he read Cole’s reply. He knows about her too? And come on, why only now? He sneaked into Estelle’s room the week before. And to Veronica’s and Christine’s. And there’s Gene, Hillary, Britney. God he could go on and on. How come only his late night escapade with her – the only one where nothing really happened, other than that one with Estelle anyway – the one being broadcasted to the world?

Don’t they know he feels rather awkward since Stella’s his little daughter?

Then again, if people think he’s into Stella, they’d keep away from her right?

Hmm.

Cole laughed as he got Zac's reply. He hadn't even made a move on Naomi. And then Zac brought up his past, and his man-whoring-ness.

Message: Hey, I wasn't saying it was anything like that. I just didn't know you were into her, that's all I'm saying. I thought y'all was on a "friends only" basis. And no, I'm not worried because she wouldn't know. I've yet to make a move on her because of Anna. And I think I may be closing in on that one thing we talked about, so yeah. But not to change the subject, still I gotta ask. Think your pops would let you come chill next weekend or something? Maybe come out to the club? I got a fridge full o' beer that needs drank.

Couldn’t say he didn’t see that coming. And for the reasons stated in his previous reply, Zac’s all but tempted to claim that something did happen. Cole may be a close friend (admitting it took quite the push really) and tricking a friend like him doesn’t really sound fair to him, but Cole does have quite the crowd and if he can confirm this, well, maybe he can finally shoo the moths away from his precious night lamp.

So to speak. (Please don’t tell Stella he just called her a night lamp).

Cole's phone went off again, a reply from Zac popped to life on the screen. Cole read it, laughed, and typed out a reply.....

Fine, I'll leave it at that And I just love how you and Jay make bets on my love life. Did you make a bet about Naomi too?

Anyway, it sucks that your old man won't let you come chill. Would he be okay with me bringing shit-ton of alcohol to your house and crashing there for the night? You know I ain't gonna just bring you beer and me not drink anything.

Well of course they make bets. He and Jalen doesn’t always see eye to eye (and may never be), but they do agree that Cole’s love life is rather interesting. All for different reasons of course (Zac says he’s surprised girls fall for his cliché, cheesy and over-the-top one-liners), but interesting all the same.

And besides, winning a bet means he’s free to gloat on Jalen about it. He still can’t find a way to top what he did to her in the student lounge, but the little victories are enough of a temporary distraction.

Though if they were discovered and his troubles go worse, something tells me he’d be blaming Cole for talking him into it. So hard. Because Zac’s quite the friend like that.
