The Basics
Name: Jonah Darren Paerson
Nicknames: JD, Jo-Bro
Age: Seventeen
Orientation: Heterosexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers: Super-speed: JD can run at approximately eight times the speed of an average person. He also tends to think at an accelerated pace, which often means that he finishes work faster and understands concepts faster. This means that he is incredibly impatient with other people. He tends to feel ill right after a run, since he is readjusting to normal speed. The power is not continual, and JD has fair control over his ability to turn it on and off, though he will occasionally go running into a wall.

The Details
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Gray
Any Piercings? No
Any Tattoos? No
Any Scars? A few minor ones
General Appearance: Disheveled is a natural state for JD, who can’t seem to stop running around everywhere. Even so, he tries to keep himself as neat as possible. Generally he’ll wear some nice jeans and a jacket, and he keeps his hair short enough that he can finger-comb it to keep it neat, and no facial hair. Any loose clothing—scarves, longer jackets—are out of the question. The one part of his outfit that does tend to look rag-tag are the shoes, which he is constantly wearing through. He keeps a couple pairs of sneakers at all times, just so he doesn’t ever run out.
Personality: The best word would probably be “stand-offish,” though he might try to argue with you that it’s not a real word, and then you’d resort to calling him a “jerk,” if not something a little more colorful. JD is smart. He’s also cocky. He’s not afraid to correct you, and worst of all is that he always seems to be right. While he is annoying and condescending, there is a sense that he’s not really doing it because he is mean. It’s more like he doesn’t exactly understand when his butting in is appropriate. Worst of all is that he will butt in to say something, then become impatient with the whole thing and walk off. His teachers complain that he can’t focus in class, and that his handwriting is wretched. Yet he is still getting A’s in all his classes, and makes time for a few laps around the school during passing period. He doesn’t really have any friends, but if he did he would be a loyal friend. He’s never turned his back on his little brother.

History
Ah, life on the move. Born in Gibraltar, of all places, and named Jonah Dennis after a couple grandfathers. Dennis on the mom’s side, the J-name coming down the line from Dad. Jonah, once old enough to realize what his name was, decided he much preferred initials, and asked everyone to call him JD. Some people listen, others, namely the parentals, don’t.
The family hopped around from one place to another, never with many special belongings or much opportunity to plant roots. JD developed an opinion that it was better not to get involved with anyone at all. So he doesn’t. The only people he has any sort of viable connection to are immediately family members. He loves his mother, though she never was the strong presence in the family. He gets along well with his little brother, who was his only playmate. He’s terrified of his father, who was known to yell at the oldest son and even give the occasional belting to make sure he stayed in line.
When JD was twelve years old and the family was in Germany, there came a particular day when he was running late for school. Again. He ran as fast as he could toward the school building, hoping to make it on time so he wouldn’t get another lecture from his father. The school was two miles away, and JD arrived within two minutes. Two days later, recruiters were at his door.
The recruiters were from Switzerland, and invited him to join a school for meta-humans. JD’s father refused to send him anywhere, while his mother asked if there were any schools in the United States, since they were American citizens. They referred him to Hammel. While his father continued to rage about meta-humans in general and all the problems that they brought, his mother packed up his belongings and sent him on a plane to Vermont. Five years later, he is almost ready to graduate from Hammel, just as soon as he finishes figuring out the final elements of what his power can do.
Roleplay Example
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Pencil on desk. Once a second. Twice a second. Three times. JD had gotten it up to eighteen times a second before the teacher came to stand by the desk. He glanced up at the authority figure and sighed, then laid the pencil down and stared at the sheet of paper in front of him.
It was a test on Chinese history. Why they had to learn Chinese history, JD wasn’t sure, but he’d learned it. And now he was supposed to write an essay on it. But outside was a beautiful fall day, and the leaves were blowing around in the trees, making it a great day to just go for a run. He started tapping his foot. Tap. Tap. Tap.
The teacher looked over and frowned. JD picked up his pencil finally and scribbled out a reply. He filled up both sides of the paper with relevant facts organized in a specific format commonly referred to as the five-paragraph essay, using an introductory paragraph, three body paragraphs each explaining a certain point and a conclusion. He was done in about twenty minutes, though it hurt his hand to write that fast. When he looked back over the paper, he winced. It wasn’t his greatest work ever, but at least it was legible. Well, legible to him.
He took it up to the teacher. “Hey, mind if I leave now?” he asked. The teacher’s frown seemed to suggest a no, so he went back to his desk and picked up his pencil again.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
