[Un]Happy Birthday (Open)

Graduating from Hammel, turning another year older, still alone in the world and as melodramatic as ever without his sister, Lucah was in his own version of Hell. Things had cooled off as of late, he hadn't seen much of Belle and Romeo seemed to be keeping busy. Lyssa was nowhere in sight and he was just along for the ride. Earlier in the day he'd received a letter from his sister more or less saying she wasn't going to be back for a while. His father was still being the biggest douche in the history of the world and wouldn't let her back. Luckily, she had her ways of persuasion and he was hoping they would work as soon as possible.

His nineteenth birthday and he was spending it all alone. It was bound to be a sucky birthday because he couldn't even go home to visit his family. Not that any of them missed him besides Jezebel and Naussica. He just wished his mother was alive. It struck him every year when he turned another year older and she missed it. It hurt to think back to the birthdays he'd shared with her, but there was nothing he could do in order to block out the memories. Everything still reminded him of her.

Lucah made his way out of his dorm and towards one of the few places in this oh so charming state of Vermont that he could tolerate. The water always soothed him and he managed to relax a bit when he was nearby a source of water. The one thing he'd received from his father was a bill to pay for the car insurance. No word from him, not even a 'one year til death' happy birthday disappointment card. What a rip off huh? Lucah sighed and sat down under his tree, notebook in hand and began to write vigorously in order to forget that he was alone on his birthday.

It was the the ridiculous scratch of pencil on paper that woke her. It wasn't a low waking. No, one minute she was asleep, the next she was awake. The crook of the tree was quite comfortable, especially with her jacket over it to keep her from getting to scratched up while she slept. She took a few moments to just listen to the sound. Oh well, nap time over. Silently, the mischievous girl moved so that she could look down. And low and behold, there was a Lucah there! Her bestest frenemy! The dark girl adored the Romanian boy as if he were one of her brothers, and even had a nickname for him. Of course, she had a nickname for everyone she came across.

Climbing out onto the branch, she got a good grip. Boy, was he going to be in for a surprise. She levered her legs under one branch she so she wouldn't fall, and hen tipped backward so that she would be hanging in front of Lucah. They were relatively low branches anyway, so it worked.

" Happy Birthday Princeling!" She said in her overly enthusiastic voice, olivine eyes shining with happiness. Like that was going to be well received. The present she had for him probably wasn't going to be either, but oh well.

Lucah was so deep in thought, he never would have noticed the girl laying up above him. He wouldn't have noticed if someone walked right up to him either. He just wrote and wrote, trying desperately to get all of his thoughts and feelings down on paper so that he didn't have it closed up inside of himself. Had he seen the girl above, he'd have been sure to avoid the tree. People were just not what he wanted to deal with. Especially if he'd seen who this girl was; Deidra McKay, crazy illusionist who confused him immensely whenever she spoke in her own language.

How was it that her siblings could understand a damn word that she said?

As Luc scratched his pencil against the paper in scrawling words, something fell from the tree and nearly surprised him. But Lucah never showed his surprise. His eyes slid up from the paper and to the girl he'd hoped he wouldn't find at this point in time. Crazy illusionist. Wonderful. Without so much as a glare for her, his eyes drooped back down to his notebook. He didn't hold any anger or annoyance because he was simply too tired of being angry. That didn't mean he wouldn't get annoyed though.

Her excited tone made him cringe and he glanced up at her again, "Hello, Deidra. And thank you." The tone of his voice was bland in comparison and the icy blue of his eyes seemed almost glazed over. This was not the Lucah everyone knew and hated, this was an expressionless man unsure of what to do with his life.
