In Need of a Little Sugar (Charlie)

Sam was practically skipping down the street. The weather was hot enough for him to shed extra layers without regretting it. So warm, in fact, that he was able to break out his awesome Captain America flip flops, and his shorts.

Not to mention his bitching Angry Birds t-shirt.

He was also happy because he was on his way to The Holey Place. That only meant one thing.

Donuts.

Better. Free donuts. If he played his cards right, he was sure that Charlie would give him free access. A sweet smile, a comment about how sexy she looked today, and the bins would be his for the raiding. He didn’t really flirt. Not seriously, anyway. Not with Spencer as his ever loyal girlfriend.

But if an offhand comment got him freebies, he’d do it.

He swung into the shop, flashing Charlie his most charming (read: idiotic) grin. He headed to the counter and leaned against it. “Hey sexy. How’s business?” Small talk was usually necessary before he was granted access to the free bin, and he was willing to indulge her long enough to get his hands on sugar. “You’re lookin’ fine today, by the way. Very... patriotic.” It was a wonder he even knew the word. “I like it.”

Today was a slow day at The Holey Place. It was mid-afternoon, the sluggish part of the day, and Charlie was humming to herself in boredom as she waited for the next batch of donuts to be finished. There was only one other person working today - a young guy that took care of enough to allow her a little free time. So she was currently near the counter, shooting off tiny little fireworks from her fingertips that fizzled a few feet into the air in reds and blues before disappearing into smoke. They matched her patriotic outfit choice of the day, she thought idly as another one flew into the air and exploded in a tiny poof.

As the smoke cleared, she heard the door open, and eagerly turned to see who it was. Well well well. None other than Sam, the ever-complimenting charmer. A smirk crossed her face, and she leaned on the counter at an angle, tilting her head at him. She knew he was just here for the freebies, so she was going to make him work for it a little. "Hey handsome. Business was dead today, until you came in." She gave him a quick wink. "You're not looking too shabby yourself. I like the Angry Birds. It suits you." She grinned at the compliment, sticking her chest out a little as if to show off her English pride. Of course, that wasn't really all she was showing off. "How are you doing today?" He would get his donuts eventually, but she was going to get some fun out of it first. "Set anything on fire recently?"

Sam loved The Holey Place. Not only was the manager awesome, but the sheer amount of variety was amazing. They even had oddball stuff, like bacon donuts. (He and Vincent had once dared each other into eating one. Surprisingly, they weren’t bad.) Sugar, a pretty girl willing to dole out freebies if she liked you, what more could an eighteen year old ask for? Well, probably a lot more, but he’d take what he could get. He was still happy after his meeting with the Gold and Blue Law Firm, and was excited to be starting soon. That warranted celebration with fried snacks, right?

It wasn’t the pyro’s fault that he stopped by for freebies now. Once he’d been exposed to the joys that was the day old bin, well, he’d been hooked. Why pay if flirting gained you access? Exactly. Though he knew if he brought Spencer in, he’d be paying, like a gentleman should. (Besides, it would probably look terrible to flirt with Charlie in front of Spencer. He’d never hurt his girlfriend like that.) The flirting was all in fun, and he liked to play the game.

He grinned at her compliments. “Angry Birds is awesome,” he affirmed. So much so, he’d invested in a few of the plushes for the sole purpose of throwing them at people. Namely his best friend. Or his teachers, when their backs were turned.

Unsurprisingly, his gaze wandered a bit when Charlie moved. As did his mind, but he still managed to catch the tail end of her questions. “Preeeeetty good. I got an internship!” He was still proud of himself, and thrilled to be rubbing it in Vincent’s face. “Nnnn.... not lately? Just training blocks in class. I’m getting better, but my trainer is a biiiiiiitch.” He leaned a little harder on the desk for a moment, giving Charlie a pitiful look. “How’s the fireworks?” He loved his own power, yes, but Charlie’s? Awesome.

Charlie liked Sam. Not like-liked him, but just as entertainment. He had no shame in playing along with her game (although he had brought a girl in once, and had actually paid for once), which was always nice for the flirtatious manager. And plus, he was just plain cute.

"Angry Birds is awesome," she agreed. She spent way too much of her time playing that stupid game. "Maybe I'll have to go pick up one of those shirts... Or someone could get me one." She grinned. Of course she didn't expect anyone to get her one - it was all just part of the sport.

"Oooh, an internship, hmm?" She pouted. "Well, there goes my chances of you coming to work here, then. Too bad, we have a couple openings..." That were hopefully soon going to be filled. She had interviewed a few people, including some students from Hammel, and was in the process of narrowing them down. "Where are you interning at?" She might as well let him brag a little.

She nodded sympathetically. "Trainers can be bitches. Mine never let me use humans as target practice. Where's the fun in sedentary objects?" She put out her right hand and formed it into a finger gun, pretending to shoot it at Sam. Nothing came out, of course - even though Sam could probably manipulate it and keep it from hurting him, she wasn't THAT irresponsible. At least, not at work. Instead, she pointed it upwards and shot off another little spout. "Fireworks are as fantastic as ever," she replied, a slightly wild look in her eyes. "I'm beginning to be able to make them into shapes now. I can do stars, and hearts, and even birds, if I try hard enough." She blinked, returning her focus on Sam. A sly smirk crossed her face. "But you're not really here to talk about my glorious ability, are you?" He would be gone as soon as the day-olds appeared, she was quite sure.

Sam was always up for a round of the ‘flirt like crazy with the hot manager and score free donuts’ game. He was a teenage boy, and therefore always hungry, and always in need of a sugar rush. It didn’t hurt that Charlie really was hot. Not quite Spencer hot, but hey, he was loyal.

He leaned his elbows on the counter, chin in his hands as he looked up at Charlie, grinning. “They’re everywhere. You’d look hot in one.” Quite honestly, his piggy shirt wasn’t all that flattering, but he loved it. “Hey, if I had money and didn’t have a girlfriend, I’d get you a hundred.” See? He could be nice too.

“Yeah!” He was so proud it was ridiculous. “Sorry babe. I didn’t think of this place. I was gonna apply at a bunch of places, but the guy helping me find a job thought the internship would be a good idea.” He shrugged in a ‘what can you do?’ sort of way. “It’s at the Blue and Gold Law Firm! It’s just photocopying and stuff, but it’s still a job! And I’m gonna be better at it than VinVin.” He’d told Charlie all about his best friend on previous visits. Namely, their idiotic stunts, their drunken antics, and their mutual love/hate relationships with one another.

He grinned at her finger gun, not at all afraid of an actual firework coming at him. He and Vincent had done worse to each other. Besides, heat didn’t bother him much, and he was used to burns. “Both my last trainers were bitchy. I haaaaaaate Miss Sippercup though. She’s such a cow.” He pulled a face. “She doesn’t let me do anything fun. It’s always ‘light the block, Rixon. Make the fire go out, Rixon.’ It blows.” He was getting better at control, but he was hating the process of getting there. He grinned at the burst of sparkles overhead. “Sweet! You should hire yourself out. Do parties or something.”

Ohhh she was good. Sam worked up his most innocent, charming smile. “Of course I’m here for your sexy self. ... And maybe a little sugar?”
