Mia grinned “Yay! I won.” She laughed “Okay, I will hold you to that.” She moved to pick up all the played out cards and shuffle them again. She dealt the cards again. Her cards: the top card being an three and the bottom being a ten.

Mia also got really negative about herself, maybe that was one reason why it didn’t work with Cameron. She sighed, she believed everyone had a right to move on when something just didn’t work out. But for some reason it just hurt more with Cameron.

“Well… It doesn’t help that she figured it out after she said something…” She shook her head “this kind of reminds me of how she acted when Cameron lied to her about us dating…” Very different situations and everything but she couldn’t help but see a pattern. “it seems like Ravyn just gets ultra clingy.” Which wasn’t healthy for anyone. “Yeah, it seemed like she was scared that she would never had the chance to tell you her feelings.. But that also didn’t make it right.. If she truly loves you, she would have let you go and would have been happy for you. Not to mention there’s the point where your guys friendship should have came first to her than her own feelings. She was thinking about herself… Instead of thinking about you.”


Mia bit her bottom lip “Well you always have me to talk to. You know that right?” She smiled at him, but she knew that wouldn’t fix his problem with Ravyn. A few tears found their way onto her cheeks; she kind of knew what Noah was feeling. “I know you don’t want to lose your best friend… And I know how that feels. I didn’t want to lose Cameron as my best friend after what happened at the quarter note. But I kind of did lose him after that, even as a friend. It just wasn’t the same anymore. I don’t want that to be the same for you and Ravyn though… I don’t want either of you to have to go through that. But I can’t say that your friendship will be the same. And to figure out where your friendship stands.. Well only time will tell..”

It was kind of up to Ravyn at this point, because it depended on how much she was going to let her feelings affect their friendship. But even than it will never be the same. Because, Noah didn’t feel like he could go to Ravyn now about girls and she knew that their was just going to be this awkwardness between them.

Noah looked determined when she dealt the cards again. Her top card was a three, so hopefully that meant good things for him. His was 8 of spades facing up, and a 10 of clubs facing down. Noah weighed his options but tried his best not to have it appear on his face. "Nah, I'm good. Show me what you got." He grinned, still playing it safe.

"What happened then? I only know Ravyn's side of the story." Noah admitted. He didn't really know Mia at the time. But he listened as she was talking, taking in the information being given to him. Another person's perspective was good. It gave him the chance to hear it all outside his own head. "I think she just panicked, I don't know." He shrugged. And he could hardly talk to her about it now. They were going away together and all that. He didn't want to make it awkward; he was determined not to.

"Yeah, I know. Thanks Mia. I really trust you." Noah replied, looking up from the cards and smiling at her. That was when he noticed that she had started crying. Concern washed over his features in an instant. "I mean, I promised her that it wasn't going to be any different from me. I'm not going to treat her differently. I guess that's all I can give." He explained, hoping it made sense.

Mia smiled as she said he would stay, she placed another card down for herself it was a queen. Her palm met her forehead “Dangit…” She flipped over the ten that was face down. Noah won, that was for sure. “You win, I got busted.” Twenty-three, it was higher than twenty-one so she lost. “What did you get?”

“Uh, she asked me to hang out at the mall.. I thought okay no big deal just two girls having fun at the mall… You know? But I found out she only asked me to hang out to keep tabs on Cameron’s new ‘girlfriend’ because she had asked me how dating him was going…” She shook her head slightly “I guess our relationship really only has revolved around mutual friends… We don’t really hang out just the two of us, just to hang out.. So I don’t know.” She shrugged; she just hoped Ravyn didn’t say anything to anyone about her bad habit; that was the last thing she needed. That was only half of the story, there was more to it than that but she didn’t think Noah wanted to hear it and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to re-live that moment.

“Just hang in there with Ravyn… She knows you’re not interested now, but I can’t say nothing would change between you two.”


Mia smiled at him “I trust you too.” Mia moved to wipe the tears away; he didn’t need to be concerned about her. She would be fine. She shook her head “Cameron promised me we would always be friends… I’m not trying to make you feel like crap.. But I don’t want you to expect something that’s not going to happen… The thing is, it is already different for you and you will treat her differently.. Because now you know talking about other girls is going to be sensitive for her.” She felt like both Ravyn and Noah needed to know that things were going to be different and that they needed to work with those differences. “But your right, not treating her any differently is all you can give… And it’s really all you can do if you want to save your friendship… I guess it’s really up to her to decide where it’s going to go.. Because she needs to decide if she is going to push her feelings away and try to get over you or if she is going to keep letting her feelings affect your friendship and her personal life.” Noah had nothing to do with whether or not the friendship they have will last or not, he is going to do all he can do. It was really up to Ravyn with how she was going to handle this.

Noah couldn't stop himself from smiling when he noticed that she was looking defeated. That meant an even score! "Eighteen. Guess I can't help but play it safe." He replied. But lucky, because if he would have gone for it he would have ended up with double fail. At the next draw he got a king of hearts face up, and a two of diamonds face down. He laughed at the notion of the king of hearts anyway. "Give me another." He indicated, smirking to look confident. A four of diamonds. Really!? His brow furrowed, but he did his best to control it. "Your turn."

When Mia started explaining the other side of what happened, Noah was surprised to say the least. It made Ravyn sound so manipulative.

"Awesome." He said happily, glad she trusted him.

He nodded as she spoke, feeling relief. Mia was right; so long as things kept going as they were there would be no problem. Of course things would be different, but he would try his best not to make it painful. "Thanks, Mia. I didn't know who else to talk to about this." He said finally, "I just hope it doesn't make things different between you and Ravyn." Cause that would be bad. Noah idly played with the corner of one of the cards, looking over to her again.

"Do you... Do you want to talk about what happened with Cam?" He asked, knowing now that it was still an issue for her.

Mia looked at her top card, it was a eight of clubs; she looked at her bottom card, a five of hearts. She chuckled at the four of diamonds Noah had gotten. She took a hit herself and got a nine of spades. Mia groaned as she flipped over her bottom card. Twenty-two all together; she looked at Noah “what did you stop at this time?” knowing by now it was probably a low number, at least under twenty.

The question was, was Ravyn really as manipulative as it sounded? Mia didn’t know much about her, but she guessed she didn’t make the effort to get to really know her and vise verse.

Mia smiled and nodded “I’m glad I bumped into you than… Literally… I’m always here for you, you know that right? I don’t care what it is, I want to help you through or with anything.” She didn’t like the fact knowing Noah felt like he didn’t have anyone to go to about this. So she was glad she had bumped into him. She shook her head “Don’t worry about it… Thinking about our relationship.. I don’t think it matters anyway. Like I said, our relationship revolves around mutual friends. “ Mia didn’t think that was much of a friendship. Besides that she always gave people chances, no matter what she heard. She knew Ravyn was a nice girl but now she couldn’t help but see a different side of her.

Mia shook her head “there’s nothing to talk about… I said everything I had to say. I just need to make myself get over it.” It didn’t help that she kept comparing things with Cameron to what happened with her last relationship and the fact she kept telling herself that there was always going to be someone better than her. What was the point in even trying?“I just feel really close to just giving up..” she mumbled.

She shook her head “I have something for you!” Hoping it would draw Noah’s attention away from what she had said before. Mia got up and went to her desk, going into one of the drawers and pulling out a necklace. Mia walked back to Noah and sat beside him, handing out the necklace for him to take. “I made it. I hope you like it….”

Winning. Winning was awesome. Noah revealed his card to the total of sixteen. "Y'know that grey area between should I and shouldn't I." Sixteen and fifteen were definitely the numbers that compelled that kind of question. "Don't go easy on me just because I'm sad, though." He said, getting his cards again. Queen of hearts this time face up. Underneath was a seven of spades. He offered a small wave of his hand. "Come on Mia." He said, flipping the face down card for her to see.

"You don't think you guys are friends?" Noah asked curiously. He couldn't speak for Ravyn or her feelings on the matter, but he could talk to her if necessary. Maybe she had no idea Mia felt like this.

Noah shook his head, glancing away. "There's more to it you don't know." He began, looking back to her to gauge her reaction. He didn't want to continue too far forward if she wasn't interested in hearing him out. "A lot more. He was being genuine. It was all real, Mia." For the moment, he resisted the urge to tell Mia that the guy wasn't actually a player. But he wouldn't say so unless he really needed to.

"Oh? What is it?" Noah asked, watching as she moved around the room before coming back to side beside him. He looked at the necklace she was handing over, extending a hand to take hold of it. "You made it? Really?" He asked, looking back over to her. "Wow, thank you. It's awesome." Noah said genuinely. Really, he had always been the sentimental type, so it meant a lot. "Why did you make it?"

Nodding to Noah’s statement “yeah but I tend to go past that area…” She wasn’t one for playing it safe. Mia stuck out her tongue “I’m not going easy on you! How could I be?” It wasn’t like she knew what cards were being put down. She looked at her top card a four a clubs, the bottom being a six of hearts. She took a hit herself; it was a seven of diamonds; Showing her face down card. “Oh! A tie! Who wins a tie in blackjack?” She couldn’t remember.

Mia shrugged “Friends, yeah. But not close friends… I mean like we rarely hang out, the only time we did was when we met and when she wanted to catch up on what she thought was her ex’s girlfriend. Oh and the time she came over to talk to me about Cameron… Which she said the reason she came over was to just see how I was doing but I don’t know..”


As she listened her eyes grew wide. So Cameron had been telling the truth. More tears ran down her cheeks. What had she gotten herself into? She hugged her knees to her chest and rested her forehead on her knees. “So I was the one who fucking screwed it up? This is all my fault..”was this all her fault? Cameron hadn't been playing with her. Her heart ached more knowing this. She looked at Noah “Why didn’t he ask me to be his girlfriend then? Was it because I didn’t believe him?” She ran a hand through her hair; she didn’t know how to take any of this. Why did Noah tell her that? It just made her feel worse.

Mia smiled at him, glad he actually liked it. She shrugged “I’ve been making one for all my friends… The guitar pick bracelet I gave Ravyn for her birthday, I made it. I also.. made Cameron one too…” He probably stopped wearing it.

Noah tilted his head to the side. Who did win a tie in blackjack? "I think... Don't you like split the win? Or just break even when there's money?" He asked in return, unsure. Regardless, it was an awesome way to keep his mind off the severity of the conversation.

"That's weird." Noah replied. All the things she had just told him were things he didn't really know before. It was colouring his perception of Ravyn in a different way. Was she really capable of doing things like that? He didn't really know what else to say beyond the fact that it was weird. Maybe how he saw Ravyn wasn't how other people did? If that was true, then what did that mean?

"I'm sorry, Mia. I didn't mean to make you cry." Noah replied, reaching over and pressing his hand to one of her shoulders. She was crying a lot more now, and he wasn't sure what else to do. "I just thought... I don't know, that you should know about it from his side too." Otherwise the picture wouldn't be completely clear for her. Really, he thought he was helping her find a little more understanding.

He smiled wider at her explanation. "Thanks, Mia. I really like it. It... It means a lot." And with that, he unhooked it and looped his arms around his neck to put it on.

Mia shrugged at his questions “I don’t know; I’ve never gambled…” She shrugged again “Well since we aren’t playing for money we can just keep it as a tie.”

Mia bit her bottom lip “I didn’t mean to say all that to make you see her in a different light…” She wasn’t that kind of person, she was merely saying how she saw their relationship and stating the way she saw things that Ravyn has done. Though when you put all the little things together it seemed like she only did things for her own personal gain. Even if Ravyn had come over just to see how Mia was doing she was pretty sure she was doing it for some self satisfactory. Then again Mia thought most people were like that and it wasn’t just Ravyn. Though what that meant for Noah and Ravyn was different, they had a different relationship to begin with.

Mia shook her head “It’s fine.” She wiped away her tears, and pushed through wanting to cry more. It wasn’t fair to Noah, he had come over to talk about his issues she didn’t want to make this about herself. She shook her head again “No, it’s fine. But knowing that just brings up more empty questions for me..” And it made her feel more worthless, even if Cameron really did love her; was she really not important enough to fight for? This just made everything more of a mess, but it was a mess she had to deal with. It wasn’t fair for her to drag Noah into this; Cameron was his friend anyways. She sighed “It’s fine. Thank you for telling me.” It just didn’t do any good for her now, Cameron had already moved on and here she was shattered a broken by something she had done. It was always her fault; she wasn’t cut out for relationships.

Mia grinned “I’m glad you like it. I thought the quote fit you.”

Noah shook his head, turning to look at her and smiling again. "No no, don't worry about anything like that." He replied. She really didn't need to worry about how he saw Ravyn. "It's just, y'know. When you know someone you know them how you do. And when someone else knows them, they know other things that you don't. So you get a different look at them when you talk to someone else." He explained, idly hoping it made sense. He did use the word know a lot there...

"You know if you ever want me to talk to him for you, or tell him anything I'll do that." Noah replied. Mia probably didn't know they were friends until now, but the fact that he knew Cam was legitimate about his feelings for her should have told her that much. "He's probably just as confused as you are."

Noah released the necklace when he felt that it was secured, picking it up with his hand and looking at it. "Yeah, it's true." He replied. The quote was right; it was exactly what he lived by.

Mia smiled sheepishly at Noah. “I understand. I’ve been there.” Though she still wasn’t sure what that meant for Ravyn and Noah. But she figured it was none of her business. It was for Noah to deal with.

Mia looked at the ground. “Just tell him I hope he’s as happy as he could be and that, that’s all I want, is for him to be happy.” Because at this point, it didn’t seem like either her or Cameron were being considerate of her feelings. And besides that, she felt it was too late to fix anything, or to understand anything. What was done is done; Cameron didn’t need to feel the way she did right now. “I… I’ve realized through Cameron… That anyone wanting to be anything with me is going to be confused at some point in the relationship. So it’s for the best that he’s with someone else.” She was just too complicated to figure out, so it was obvious no one was going to be happy with her. “It doesn’t matter… The only thing that matters is that he’s happy. And he seemed to be happy.”That's all she ever wanted, for all her friends to be happy. She sighed “Besides, this has nothing to do with you…”

Mia smiled at him, “Good. Because I would have felt awful if I put something you didn’t like on it…”

"C'mon Mia, don't talk down about yourself like that." Noah replied. He didn't like hearing her say that she was too complicated for anyone to figure out. It was sad, really. Everyone deserved to find love with someone. "You're not too hard to figure out. You're a girl!" He chuckled slightly, "Girls are just hard for guys to figure out. So sometimes they give up. The ones that stick around to figure you out are the ones you want to keep."

Had things worked out differently, he could have been that guy. But Cam had gotten there first, and Noah knew a while ago that there was no way he could compete with that guy. "You guys are both my friends. If I can help you get back to being friends, then I want to. So I'll tell him what you said, and maybe you can eventually get past it." He smiled simply.

"Plus, if things work out we can make a pretty awesome band." Noah smirked. That could be awesome.

Mia shook her head; he didn’t understand and never would unless she poured out her heart and soul to him. Maybe it was because she was a girl; but maybe it was also something more. And it wasn’t just that she was too complicated; so many other things came into play. She placed a hand on her wrist. “How many more people will I have to go through to find that one person? How many more times I’m I going to have to feel this way?” She didn’t want to keep going through this, this was the third time she had to go through this heartbreak and it was starting to take its toll on her. “I’m just tired of trying.. and I’m tired of being the one that ends up shedding tears.”

Mia wished it had worked out differently, because she hated this feeling and hated the way it had ended. Mia shrugged “I don’t know if we can still be friends… But if you want to try than I can’t stop you.” She guessed she would also need to try but she felt like she needed to get over Cameron before she could move on to being friends with him and even then, she would always feel hurt.

Mia smiled “Maybe.” She didn’t know how that work out, Mia had a special vision in mind if she started a band and didn’t think anyone else shared it or would even understand it. But high school band, it could be fun; she missed being in a band.

"Who knows how many people any of us will have to go through?" Noah asked, with a shrug. He asked himself the same question over and over. There simply wasn't an answer, so he had nothing to give. "When you know, you know. And I bet it's hard to get to the point when you know." He had to stop using the word know...

Noah nodded. If the situation came up, he would talk about it. After all, he and Cam were going away soon so maybe they'd get a chance then.

"C'mon, how awesome would that be?" Noah asked, turning in his seat so he was sitting beside her. He instinctively threw his arm around her and pulled her into a side hug. "We'd be awesome together. Trust me, Cam'll come around. This is just a rough patch. We all go through them in friendships."

Mia sighed, she had so many questions that no one could answer. But she was tired of going through the same old thing when it came to relationships. She didn’t know how much more she could take. All of this just made her wonder if she just shouldn’t have survived. She rested her cheek on her knees and stared at the ground. Mia didn’t know what to say, “What happens when you feel like you just can’t trust anyone anymore?” Because that had been the problem with Cameron, she just couldn’t trust him with her heart; she didn’t feel like she could trust anyone with it anymore. How did they come to talking about her anyways?


Mia wrapped her arm around Noah and rested her head on his shoulder. “This feels more than just a rough patch but alright. We’ll see how it goes…” That’s all she could give; she couldn’t make any promises.
