[Willow Birdsong]

Willow was reading and trying to feed her ever hungry power. Her eyes zipped over the lines like she were in a race to read the most books. The library's stock had been depleted, and nearly everything had been read by the girl from the Bible, to Zoology. Willy was restless, her head was aching, and yet, she couldn't stop herself from perfecting her knowledge. It was safer, safer than trying to adapt to anything more in this world.

This wasn't going well.

"Sorry!" Willow said from her dorm room, hair up in a messy bun and looking absolutely disheveled. She hadn't left her room for a number of days other than to go to class and eat. And even that had been done in a zombie-like state. Her powers had gotten the best of her today, and now someone else was paying for it. How had she even gotten into the hallway?

Telekinesis wasn't something to be messed with, and trying to understand it had made her want to tear her hair out. But throwing a book at someone's head? She didn't even remember the will to perform the action until she was already doing it. And now it was too late.

David didn't know what he was doing back in his dorm's hallway, but he was there. His sanity was deteriorating by the minute, because the information he's been analyzing every second of the day. David literally knew the answer to everything, he's also read all of the books in the school's library. He's been trying to go over his new inventions, but he needed good supplies to produced these inventions. Like for instance, if he needed rocket boots, he'd need boots, of course, and pieces of a car. But obviously, these things would burn out the human foot.

This wasn't a cartoon, he wasn't Dexter from Dexter's lab. He was weird David, who was growing crazy and sadistic. He didn't like the fact that he was going crazy, he didn't want to run into anyone on the way to his own dorm. He absorbed and got used to the fact that he was no longer sane. He just had to adjust to the fact that he was crazy. He tried to go to a therapist, but he wouldn't like explaining his feelings to people. That displayed a sign of weakness, and he didn't agree to it.

He was Darwin's elitest. He did like the fact that he believed in Survival of the fittest, but due to the fact that he wasn't superior and strong like the Aryan race was supposed to be, he wasn't too sure about it.

The boy felt a large knock at his head, and inducing his daily headache.

David looked at the girl. He was just shocked, and standing there looking like a creep was all he could do.

Willow didn't think she was crazy, she just knew that there had to be a way to know and be used to everything around her, around everything she ever read and experienced. If this could be accomplished, then nothing would be new to her and everything would feel normal, almost as if she didn't have powers at all. People were always changing though, so making friends she wasn't sure about, not if they would always make her adapt to the new things people did.

Willow's sister had nicknamed her Darwin. What a coincidence. David didn't look like a creep at all, he just looked like someone trying to get somewhere who had been rudely interrupted. "Sorry," she repeated, clinging to her doorway as though it were the only thing keeping her up from hitting the floor. "I didn't mean to be rude..." It was a thought which had crossed her mind and seemed appropriate to bring up now. Her body got used to the shock of hitting someone and now she didn't feel as guilty as perhaps she should.

She smiled at him a bit. Hopefully he understood a thing or two about wonky powers.

The genius still stared at her. He didn't want to scare her away, but he was quite shocked that she "accidentally" threw a book at his head. Did she even throw it? What if she had telekinesis? That wouldn't be a problem then, because the defining debate about the laws of physics and mental-prolonging-physical advancements were a strong topic. She couldn't possible control where that book was going at a fast enough rate, even if she had telekinesis. Possibly due to her age, or the fact that she didn't really mean to send the book David's way. Contempt to the fact she would've had control over it even if she wanted it to be directed over there.

"It's okay, stranger."

He stood there, too scared to even move away from her. Why was he so scared? She wouldn't kill him, at least he didn't think. But his sanity and corrupted mind told him otherwise. What if she did want to attack him? Well she has succeeded. And he didn't know what to do.

The nerd decided to be nice, so he picked up the book. He looked at the topic, and he was quite shocked, too. Was she a genius like him?

"What do you think about Darwin's theory?"

Willow didn't really have telekinesis, she was just testing it out, or rather, her body was adapting to what it would be like. It was a strange concept, one that wasn't really concrete and didn't make a lot of sense and thus, a book was launched.

"We shouldn't be strangers," she said, wondering if he had been in any of her classes. She couldn't really remember, Willow wasn't good with being with people as a general rule. Her eyebrows rose at the question, looking skeptically at him.

Her eyes went downcast and she felt like fleeing. But she needed her book back. "You don't have to make fun of me," she said stiffly. Survival of the fittest indeed. When it came to fight, freeze, or flight, Willy often chose the later. "My sister calls me that all the time. Darwin." Not that she minded when Juney said it, she just didn't like other people reminding her of it.

David grew confused for the first time in a long time, this was strange. The genius furrowed his brows, and leaned against the wall. He hated that feeling that his wool sweater made when it brushed against walls, it was too fuzzy and uncomfortable. Like that feeling when you think about your teeth scraping against a chalk board .. That was the worst.

"I-I'm sorry. I don't mean to make fun of you ..- I don't see how I made fun of you at all." Although he said that, he did blush when she said that they shouldn't be strangers. Did she think he was cute? Preposterous. David was too frail to be attracted by any girls, also he'd freak them out by his intellect.

He looked at the book in his hand once more, and he jumped for a second. "My apologies," he moved the book towards her, hesitant at first. What if she wanted to attack him then?

Willow didn't want to know what it felt like to scrape your teeth against a chalkboard. That was something she hoped she would never adapt to.

"For the book," she said, gesturing towards it, "I know I'm a nerd, I get it all the time when I'm in the library." That's probably why she didn't have any friends. "I'd liked to be called by my name, even though I don't like it very much." Maybe she was overreacting, but her nervous system would soon calm her down and everything would be viewable once more.

Willow reached out for the book, taking it from him delicately. She wasn't exactly the prettiest girl, and felt self conscious almost all the time. Her eyes implored him. "What's your name?" She asked. She wanted to know who to thank, especially if he didn't mean any harm, but she still had her suspicions.

Why did she ask him for his name? What was he supposed to say? He panicked a little on the inside, and his eyes widened unattractively, and he started fiddling with his thumbs. "David Klaus. My power's enhanced intelligence, and perfect memory, you?"

He didn't know why he told her all of that, maybe it was because he didn't want to deal with all the questions she'd have to ask him. He wouldn't know how to react towards that type of thing. People barely spoke to him because of how weird and smart he was, maybe they could relate a lot more.

"You can say I'm a nerd, too. I see you in the library sometimes .. Just too shy to even say hi. You'll be one of my first friends, if I even befriend you."

David. It was a nice name. "Willow Birdsong, reactive adaptation." She looked him over and felt intensely nervous. She didn't do well with people, and males were the worst. Not in essence, just in how she didn't know how to deal with him due to her abandonment issues and inability to relate to them.

Willow didn't have super intelligence, but she learned things almost as quickly, whether that be learning a foreign language, or having to breathe under water, her body and mind would adapt. She was the termite at the end of the apocalypse that no one could squish. And she hated it. All she wanted was to be normal, sociable. Like her sister.

And then Willow smiled, letting the book weigh down her arm at a straight angle. "You've read all the books in the library," she said, remembering distinctly a time where David had been complaining to the librarian about how they needed more books. Now she understood why. "If you do decide to befriend me, are we always going to argue?" She just, needed to know.
