With All the Force of a Great Typhoon... (Open)

[Juniper Birdsong]

Having quickly gotten the hang of creating and riding on air scooters, Juniper had decided to take another step in her training - creating tornadoes. At the moment, she could only create very tiny ones for a few seconds at a time, and she was determined to get better as quickly as possible. She would be graduating later this year, and she needed to focus on perfecting her abilities in order to feel like she had been successful at Hammel before she went off to either take a year to go around the country with Amos, or go to college. Her options were wide open, and she was excited to see where her life took her.

Now, however, she was out in the middle of the training field, away from anything that could be potentially damaged by her abilities. With her long curls tied back into a messy half-braid so as not to get in the way, she stood lightly on her feet, arms out in preparation for manipulating the air. A few other people were around as well, since it was a nice, albeit mildly cool, day, and it was perfect weather for training. The air was a mixture of auburns and yellows - perfectly matching the fall atmosphere.

Taking a deep breath, she starting winding one arm in a circular motion, watching as the golden-colored air began to wrap in a similar motion. Soon, however, she lost her grasp, and it floated back into a regular breeze. "Dang," she sighed, dropping her hands. This was going to be harder than she thought. She glanced around, wishing she had some company or encouragement. But Amos was busy, and she was alone.

Things weren't going very well for Connor Sharp either. He had ventured out onto the training field for the very same reason the girl a few yards next to him did. There were just some things he wasn't very good at and he disliked this fact thoroughly. But the trouble was, he wasn't getting any better at it.

He was the master of all moving little precise things, and he wasn't too shabby when it came to moving medium-sized things, but with large things, he was an embarrassment. He was trying to stack several boulders one on top of the other. But it wasn't working. They'd either zap halfway across the field, void of any control on his behalf, or rattle in place without appearing to have any intention of budging.

He was in the midst of trying to move a boulder that didn't want to move, and it looked like he would burst a vein in his neck in the process. It began to carefully rise from the ground when a bout of freezing wind suddenly ran up the back of his shirt.

Crying out at the sudden climate change, the boulder fell down raising a cloud of dust. Sharp impulsively turned towards the nearest possible culprit. "Hoy there! You!" he called, cupping his hands round his mouth, "Aye, you, girl with braid! Mind not blowing so hard? You've frozen me balls!"

Juniper was turned away from Sharp, which was why she hadn't really realized that her air bending was bothering him, or noticed he was practicing himself. At the sound of his voice, she whipped her head around, quickly recognizing him as a familiar face she had seen over the years.

"Hey Sharp!" She greeted him at first, ignoring his shouting. She gave him a wave and a pleasant smile, going over to him and turning it into an apologetic grimace. She still had a skip in her step, though - she was said to be incapable of walking normally. "Sorry about that! I didn't realize I was bothering you. The wind is really hard to control sometimes." With hardly a second thought, she gave him a friendly hug. When it came to her, she was very obvious about who she knew, and considered anyone she had spoken to previously a friend. And friends got hugs.

Juniper glanced over at the boulders. "You're training too, huh?" she asked. She tried to remember what his ability was - telekinesis? That sounded right. "How's it going?" Talking to him was a welcome break from her own training - maybe they would be able to help each other out.

Sharp accepted the hug, even though he wasn't one to go about hugging people all the time, he didn't reject hugs when he received them. At her question he hung his head and shrugged at the same time, it looked a little bit weird but he could get away with it because he was tall. "I fail."

He looked at her with half a smile while rubbing the back of his head, as if that would help the mother of all headaches that he was having. "You looked like you were doing tidy right up to the moment you decided to freeze my arse."

Juniper continued to smile, even at Sharp's words. "Awww I'm sure it's not that bad. We all just need some practice, no one just manifests one day and is an expert at... Moving boulders the next." Always the optimistic one, she. It was in her nature to encourage people, to be as bright and cheerful as possible. She was just glad to have someone to talk to!

She laughed at his comment. "I was trying to make a sort of small tornado, but it's really difficult. I just figured out how to make an air scooter a month or so ago, so I figured a tornado was sort of the next step. Hmm, maybe if I tried using warm air rather than cool...." She trailed off, pondering. "Anyway," Juniper continued, looking back at him with a cheeky grin. "Maybe we can help each other out. I've always found it's easier to practice with a partner. Amos and I do it all the time."
