Finally, the end of the term. No more homework, no more tests. No more teachers nagging him to listen and actually try to learn. And best of all, his community service was on hold too. No more staying after gym class to put all those sweaty towels away. No more waking up at Wednesday mornings for three hours of boring office filing duty. No more waiting ‘till the theatre club finishes their god awful practices because he’s the one putting away (and sorting!) their costumes. Sure it’s only for three weeks, the stupid curfew’s still in place, no booze allowed inside campus premises still and he won’t be coming home for Christmas (financial constraints, he understands), but hey, a break’s a break.
And what better way to celebrate the break than with some alcohol in him? It’s already been decided that he and Noah (Cam and Chris, if they’re nice) would be out to some frat party that’s happening tonight (Chris told him to make sure it wasn’t hosted by his older brother’s frat; Romeo assured him it wasn’t, but to be honest, he’s not sure) but Romeo didn’t see anything wrong with starting early. It was early – way early – and since the other three were still asleep, he didn’t bother waking them up. And besides, nothing’s wrong with a little silent time on his own. Reflection and all that shit, he told himself as he walked to the lake all bundled up. He’s graduating soon after all, and as much as he pretends not to care, he does. Deeply.
(Well he still has a year and a half, being held back and all, but still. Not a lot of time).
He settled himself on a snow covered bench near the lake and had just been drinking for around five minutes when he saw a familiar figure by the lake. “You Blonde Twerp!” he said, waving with his free hand, “Remember me?” Well he should. Romeo believed he was practically the centre of all the snow war action last time. “What are you doing here so early in the morning?”
