On the mirrored sky (Lani)

Dom didn't really date, not in the sense of dinner and a movie with a respectful kiss on the cheek outside the door. But he had won two dates, and while one had been preplanned the other, all he knew was that Lani was good looking, and had a mysterious box.

also who his friends were, but Dom wasn't going to hold that against him.

It was dusk, and Dom had hired a boat. A small, respectfully sized yacht. It was a bit tiny by his standards but it was a small lake. When he'd said "date" they had gone a little over the top, and the christmas lights on the edge of the boat were a bit of a tacky touch but, well, there was a table with food (pizza, good pizza, because Dom had a huge soft spot for american junk food) and he waited at the dock, a blue scarf around his neck, for the car he'd organised.

What? He had money.

Lani felt a little bad that he didn’t really have a good idea set up for the date. He probably should have been prepared but he was just bad at dating and dating ideas. So he was more than relieved when Dominique had said he would take care of it. He couldn’t get that nervous feeling to leave him. It wasn’t every day that he went on a date with someone he hardly knew. Of course Lani had done his research. He knew his power and his age and that Dominique had a twin. He felt like he could be prepared for anything. That was until he was greeted by a car that Dominique had organized. A little unsettled but nothing Lani didn't have a plan for.

Lani quickly made sure that his hair wasn’t doing anything he didn’t want it to be doing. Dressed in a dark pair of jeans, not really sure how dressed up he should be, and a dark colored button up. But at the moment he met the car he was bundled in a dark jacket. The snow was still settled on the ground but the air was warmer than usual for December. Sitting in the back attempting small talk with the driving, which was failing Lani was left to watch the stars, memorize turns and tap his fingers on the box. When they finally came to a stop Lani looked out in surprise at the large thing glowing with Christmas lights. That was a boat… Lani’s heart jumped into his throat and he had the first instinct to take off running. Why did it have to be a boat? Lani swallowed the fear rising like a cold fever. It wasn’t like Dominique could have known that Lani was deathly afraid of water. No one knew. He wanted to keep it that way and that would require not running away screaming right now. He found himself having paused where concrete turned to the wood of the dock. He could hear the water lapping gently below the boards. To anyone else it would have been a relaxing sound but for Lani he was hearing the laughter of a dreadful enemy.

He closed his eyes and forced his feet to take the first step. He looked up at the lone person on the dock and focused on that. “Hey, Dominique?” He verified the identity of the person and held his hand out to shake Dominique’s. “I believe this belongs to you.” He handed over the box with a smile. In that box was a grayish brown rock. At least that was what it looked like from the outside. It was a hollow geode and within that was another, much smaller box. In that smaller box was a blue geode wrapped in a silver pendant. So what if he had stolen it? No one would miss it. He had gotten a friend to seal the geode closed again once the box was secure inside. And the outer geode was filled with a dazzling silvery blue stone. He didn't know if Dominique liked jewelry but he could hang it on his wall or something. Sure it was a little strange but he thought someone with terrakinesis could enjoy the finer things the earth had to offer.
