Into the Light of the Dark Black Night (Dom)

Carter was silent the whole way home. He sat with his hands balled into fists on his knees, only moving at a point as Dom offered him a perfectly rounded quartz. He took it, running his hands along the smooth surface and watched it threaten to shake and crumble within his hands. He handed it back. He didn't want to break something to precious to his brother.

He walked through the courtyard with the ground sunken underneath each footstep. Dom rectified the damage behind him as he kept time with his slightly older twin.

Dom opened the dorm room door and Carter walked in. The door closed behind him as he kept moving into his room. As he pulled the door open, he threatened it off its hinges as it stuck against the nearby wall. He opened his desk, retrieving the box and pulling it open. His hands collided with the malachite spheres in his possession and he pulled them out, knocking the box off the desk.

One rose above the palm of his hand, but his fingers curled around the edge and he hauled it back before tossing it with strength and power towards the bedroom window.

Dom threw up a hand, concentrating on willing the particles of sand that the glass remembered being to hold strong. It still cracked, but didn't shatter. Wasn't like they couldn't replace it but that would involve the staff coming down and talking or their dorm mates bitching and really who could be bothered with that? The sphere flew back into his hand and he curled his fingers around it.

"No," he said simply.

Dom was angry to, it was simmering under his skin as hot as magma, but right now that was less important. His brother was upset, fuming. He closed the door behind them and sat cross legged on the floor.

"This is a bit of a situation," he said finally, glaring at the window as the crack started to disappear. "We need to figure out what we're going to do."

Carter closed his eyes, waiting in preparation for the sweet sound of the shattering glass that would relieve a little pressure in his mind. But it never came; rather, the sound of a sphere hitting a stronger piece did. As if the windows were bulletproof. But no, that was just Dom. Carter's eyes shot open, glaring across at the window.

Unlike her, they could afford a fucking window pane.

And handle their fucking mistakes.

"Give it back." He said, though given his current state it almost came out like a whine instead of an order. He had another, and his other hand touched against it; running along the perfect surfaces that he himself had ensured. Small inflections felt underneath his skin that he would then shave off as if it were the soft skin of an orange. Still, Carter moved to sit on the floor across from him. He leaned back with his free hand and looked up, tossing the malachite sphere up and down as if it were weightless.

His hand flipped, the heavy mineral landing on the back of his hand with ease and rolling along the back of his fingers. "What if she fucking keeps it, Dom?" He asked, his voice low as opposed to risen. It was a different kind of anger. "What if it's ours and she keeps it. What if she keeps it from us like-" He paused, looking away again. He didn't have good experiences with mothers, and saw them all to be the same. Tak was too much like her.

Carter lifted himself back up, the malachite sphere hovering above his hand as it launched out and sought the arm of his brother. "No separation. Not for some malicious bitch and her fucking games."

"Nope," Dom said flatly, running his thumb over it. Different to his quartz, a little softer. He rolled it around his fingers, noting that the surface was totally smooth. Of course. This came as no surprise. "You have two, you can share."

Their knees were almost touching, and if anyone had walked into the room (aside from being swiftly told to get the fuck out) it would have been obvious any outsider presence was not at all welcome. Listening, Dom's expression darkened, though he didn't speak as he flicked the heavy mineral ball from one hand to the other. If Carter had not already done so, he would have been tempted to lob the thing (well, one of his own) at the nearest breakable thing himself.

As it was, the ground deep under the building shifted slightly in answer to Dominique's emotions. "She can fucking try," he said finally, voice oddly quiet. "If it's yours, or mine, and she tries that, we can bury her in law suits. Besides, between and us, who do you think is in a better position to raise a fucking baby?" But the thought is an ugly one and he sets down Carter's sphere in case he damages it.

Dom didn't exactly want to be a dad, and he knew Carter didn't either, but he nodded once. "Not a chance in hell that will happen," he said flatly, splaying his fingers on the carpet to stop his hands clenching. He reached over and clasped his hand on Carter's shoulder briefly before it returned to his side. "But never mind the maybe baby, right we just have to deal with her."

Carter turns his hand, raising it and clasping his fingers around the malachite. The thought of a court scenario, sitting at a table with Dom, their father and Uncle Seb was enough to make him shut his eyes tightly. Her on the other side, probably with her weird family against two sets of Chevalier twins. "I don't want to deal with her." He spat. the words like poison from his lips.

"What if-" He paused, running his free hand through his hair. "We can't disappoint them." Not when their father and Uncle thought so highly of them. The thought of the seats at the table, the glance from Sebastian to the side and down at Carter. She small inflections in his voice as he clears his throat. And shake of his head and the way he looks back to his documents.

He squeezes the sphere in his hand, feeling the twinge of dents start to form. It's subtle, but it's there; the malachite dents under his touch and rises slightly around his fingers. The mineral is shifting. "Dom!" He called, practically pleading as he hands it out to him.

Dom's mouth twisted, and he looked down at his hands for a moment then back up. "We won't," he said, "we were careful. We didn't mess up here." But the thought is a bad one, and he rubbed his hand over his eyes as if to physically drive it away. Uncle Sebastian never yelled, even when Dom had caused a tiny earth tremor during one of their parents days in court.

He didn't need to, because Carter and Dom weren't children, they knew when they'd messed up. It was a big great cliche but it was the disappointment, not the anger, that really got under their skin.

He looked up, alarm written over his features at Carter's cry, but he just looked down at the ball and took it, rolling it between his hands like it was soft dough, not hard rock. The dents Carter's fingers had left began to smooth out as Dom concentrated, then when it was perfect again, completely smooth, he handed it back.

"We'll fix it," he said, grabbing for Carter's other hand. "We can handle this, Cart. Si elle pense que ce n'est plus elle est encore plus bête, puis elle a l'air."

One did not simply make a Chevalier upset in front of his brother and get away with it, pregnant or not.

Carter's eyebrows lowered, knitting together in frustration and worry. It was true; they didn't do anything wrong. Had either not been careful the feelings he carried would have been different. But they were. And so he struggled to feel sympathy for anyone stupid enough to forget their pill for more than a day at a time. "How stupid do you have to be?" Carter asked aloud, looking over at Dom as if he understood his thoughts, "How fucking idiotic." Not to be educated? Yeah.

"Thank you." Carter stated quietly, allowing the sphere to drop into his cupped hands before placing it carefully on the floor. He didn't want to damage something so important. The present from his father and Uncle for stress relief.

He shook his head furiously, his hair threatening to fall out of place at the almost violent act. His hands balled into fists at his lap, not even flinching as the hair fell on front of his eyes despite how badly he would normally have wanted to fix it. "Elle est un crétin." Carter spat, relaxing his hands and pressing them against the floor. Why did they have to live above the ground? He shook his head a few times.

"Père... Oncle..." His mouth cracked into a grin, defeated and almost sickened by the thought; "I almost want to tell them just to tell Mère. She deserves the heartache of a bastard grandchild with a possessive whore of a mother."

Dom resisted the urge to fix Carter's hair as it flicked forward. It was not perfect, it was out of place and it didn't suit his twin brother at all. His mouth twisted at the joke, though whether it was a reaction to hearing his mother brought up, or from having to visualise having a baby.

"Most likely she and Tak would become fast friends," he sneered, glaring at the carpet. "They have so much in common." Hunching his shoulders, Dom rubbed a hand over his neck, fingers combing through the short hairs there. He pulled out his own quartz ball and rolled it between his hands to see if the cool stone would help cool his temper.

"I will talk to her," he said finally, "And find out. I still don't understand why she hasn't mentioned getting rid of it." It wasn't like Dom was going to force the girl to have an abortion but Carter had made it sound like she had already made her mind up and just... "Does she want to ruin her life?" he finally exclaimed. "Let alone ours?"

Carter spat laughter from his lips with intention, the malicious tendencies in his tone not lost on the sound. "She'll invite her to the Chateau and we can watch her steal as much as she can." He allowed the words to tear as many holes in the mental image of her as he could.

"You need to. Don't doubt it, brother." Carter replied, looking back at him again. He felt his temper settle under the weight of the malachite sphere now in his hands again. Fixed, its smooth surfaces looked absolutely perfect underneath the light. And within his hands, it was a weapon of unknown proportions. He liked the latter thought. "Suddenly she's developed a conscious. Such a thing wasn't around when she was manipulating our friends for a cheap fuck." He turned his face at the thought.

Because yes, that had pissed him off beyond belief.

Carter shook his head, tossing the sphere in the air and watching it move throughout the empty space. His hand extended and with it he allowed control to happen, letting the sphere circle through the air in other dimensions. "Dominique," He began quietly, not daring to look his brother in the eye, "I will destroy her for what she's done to you."
