Truth or Dare (OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS)

Between Emi’s explanation and watching the game for a few minutes, AJ was starting to understand. When Emi chose Levi, he patted the other boy on the shoulder. “Congrats,” he said, seriously, although he was grinning. Still he wasn’t trying to tease Levi too much.

Even if Sayaka had chosen a popular American song, AJ would have been unlikely to recognize it. He thought for a moment, trying to figure out what language it had been in. “Was that…Japanese?” he asked to no one in particular. “Or Russian?” Clearly AJ wasn’t much of world traveler.

Although AJ was grinning hopefully at Dani, she pulled the newest addition of the game onto her back instead. He wondered for a few moment where he’d seen the other boy before, until it finally dawned on him that they were roommates. “Hey roomie!” he said, cheerfully. “Have some ice cream when you’re done with your ride!”

Then it was his turn. Of course he picked dare. There was more adventure in a dare. But when Dani told him what he had to do, he frowned for a moment. It wasn’t that he was worried he’d embrace himself, he just couldn’t think of a single cheesy romance scene. He wasn’t that big into TV or movies. Finally he remembered on from a movie he’d seen when he was younger.

Jumping up, he knelt in front of Emi, for no reason other than she was near him. “Take off your shoe,” he whispered to her. When she had he held it up for inspection. “I guess this can be a glass slipper.” He then slipped the shoe back onto her foot. “A perfect fit!” he yelled, trying out what he thought was a prince-ly voice. “I have found my princess!” Then taking Emi’s hand, he kissed it before sitting back down. Another kid might have pointed out that Dani hadn’t said where he had to kiss someone. But AJ just couldn’t remember if the prince had done anything other than kiss Cinderella’s hand at the end.

Looking around the room to see who hadn’t gone yet, he turned to Levi. When the boy picked dare, AJ said, “Um…okay…you have to…pretend you’re a…cat…for the next ten minutes.” He sat grinning, obviously pleased with what he had come up with, even if no one else would be.

Levi blushed hard when the red-haired witch picked him. He was glad it was just a truth, because otherwise she probably would have been dared to kiss someone. He would have to ask Sam if that would count as cheating, to get kissed by a girl during a game. He didn't take the dare, so he wouldn't have had to kiss her back. Still, it would probably be best to ward off anything like that if he ever went with dare.

"Um...thanks, I guess." The pat on his shoulder from AJ was really not encouraging. "But I'm actually dating someone. Evan, the phaser who graduated last year." Which everyone who had attended the Sex. Ed. Lecture with Dr. N two years ago would probably remember, as they'd been one of the "featured" couples in Mia's little display.

The next few dares were all pretty tame, so Levi was getting more comfortable. It seemed like everyone--except AJ and Noam--was a little nervous too, and so they probably wouldn't ask anything too embarrassing. And it had been mostly dares, so Levi was fine saying "Truth."

And then AJ gave him a dare anyway.

"But.... I said truth..." If he was going to have to do a dare though, he was fine with this one. So he shrugged and brushed his hair back from his face, like how Spider cleaned herself with her paw. He could be a cat. All they did was sleep and cuddle and look haughty.

"Meow. Dani, truth or dare?" He'd run out of people he knew the names of, so after this he'd just be pointing and saying"you." She picked dare again, and he though for a moment before grabbing a felt-tip pen off of a side table. "I dare you to let me draw a mustache on you and wear it for the rest of today! Meow!"

He waved the pen in front of her face, ready to give her a curly handlebar mustache.

Dani gave a wicked grin when AJ chose to act out the scene to Emi. She knew that Emi was a little shy, and Dani probably had a bit too much fun putting her in awkward situations. She was glad she chose this dare for AJ, because he chose a Disney classic, and it was really cute. She clapped at the end, as if it were a show on Broadway. “Beautifully done!”

He watched as the game continued and raised an eyebrow when AJ seemed to completely ignore the fact that Levi chose truth. She laughed, unsure if AJ dared Levi because he misheard the other, or just didn’t care. Either way, the dare wasn’t too threatening, and Levi didn’t seem to mind doing it. Gotta keep the game going, Dani nodded.

Oh, it was already her turn again! Dani let go of the boy she was giving a piggy back ride, deciding that between turns was a decent amount of time. She paused for a moment after being asked truth or dare. So far, the game was going pretty innocently, so she decided to go for another dare. Plus, Levi seemed like a nice guy, so she hoped he wouldn’t give her anything too bad.

She guffawed when Levi waved the pen in front of her face. “Mustache, eh?” She grinned, “Make it a good one!” She had still been standing from the piggyback ride and sat down right in front of Levi. The pen wasn’t permanent, and she was sure it would make for some fun photo opportunity later.

“Hey, Emi! Truth or dare?” She asked, and Emi answered just how Dani thought she would. Darn. Ah well. “Please tell everyone the story about that time we were in Boston together." Dani grinned. She LOVED that story, and she knew that it was decently embarrassing for Emi. Even better.

Levi’s reaction to Emilia having picked him for whom to kiss made her feel a little guilty; she really hadn’t meant to embarrass the guy. “Oh yeah, well, I won’t really do it… so no worries for you or Evan, alright?” She said before turning to watch Sayaka complete her dare. Emi was glad she’d chosen the dare she did for Sayaka, even if she didn’t understand the words, the song sounded pretty coming from her. She smiled at the dare Sayaka gave to Dani, the young girl was adorable really.

When Dani gave Aj his dare Emi once again felt confirmed in her belief that truths were the safer option, but as AJ knelt in front of her she realized that no option was safe. She could feel the heat rising to her face and knew she must be turning every shade of red imaginable. She cocked one eye brow questioningly when he asked her to take off her shoe but was too nervous to refuse so she slipped it off. As he replaced it on her foot and quoted from Cinderella she felt a little better and when Aj only kissed her hand she- well she almost could have kissed him she was so glad he let her off that easily.

Emi giggled as she watched Levi draw a mustache on Dani, and made a note to herself to take pictures before it could be washed away.

She wasn’t sure to be scared or not as Dani selected her, on the one hand she was her best friend, but on the other hand Emi knew that Dani like pushing her buttons sometimes. Emi drew in her breath sharply at the question; this was further than pushing buttons. She pursed her lips and wrinkled her eyebrows as she stared in disbelief and frustration at Dani. “Boston?!” she asked hoping she had misheard her friend.

“All right well we went to Boston for the weekend right about this time last year to visit my Auntie Lynn.” Emi began as she stared at her hands in her lap, trying to just spit out the story without stuttering, if she had to do it she figured it’d be better to just get it over with. “We were heading to the train at South Station and it was a really windy day. Occupy Boston was happening then so there were protestors camped out and news crews all over the place. And…” Emi paused wishing she didn’t have to finish the story “Ok, well, just as we were walking past one of the news crews…the wind, well it uh…caught my skirt and uh…well you get the picture….and so did the camera….” Emi finished the story holding her head in her hand. Emi was wishing she had just gone to read somewhere quieter but supposed it was far too late to leave now.


Hoping to change the subject quickly Emi turned to the only person who hadn’t had a turn yet. “Alex, truth or dare?” The boy looked a little nervous as he picked truth, as usual Emi tried to come up with something that wouldn’t be too harsh. “If you could date anyone in the world, past or present, who would it be?”
