Carried away (Kouji)

Mia walked outside from the dorm building and smiled when cold air hit her face. She was so thankful that it was getting colder, now it just needed to start snowing. When that happens she would be the happiest person in Vermont. However, if she was in Barrow it would already be snowing; it made her chest tighten at the thought. She was home sick, she missed her city but didn’t miss the people and she wanted to see her mother and grandmother. She wished she could be able to visit them for the holiday but she didn’t have the money. She was glad that she would be able to spend it with Liam though. She wouldn’t know what she would do without him around. She wondered just how many people were going back home to visit their family for the holidays. It made her feel kind of lonely thinking about how all her friends would be going back home for the winter. She needed to start buying Christmas gifts, something she normally didn’t do but figured she would this year. She also needed to save money to be able to send her mother and grandmother their gifts. So much to think about, so little time.

Mia walked around the campus, not having anywhere in mind just roaming around. She had gotten tired of being in her room; she didn’t know what else to do. Kouji hadn’t been around and she didn’t want to bother anyone else. She was still thinking of everything that had happened with Cameron, and kept replaying what happened at the Quarter note in her head. Wondering what she could have explained more and if she could have said something different. She felt horrible for hurting him it wasn’t something he deserved; but did she deserve what he put her through either?

Mia came to the soccer field, she hadn’t known this was where her feet had taken her she had been so wrapped up in her thoughts. She didn’t notice she was at the field till she saw something move in the corner of her eye. She saw it was Kouji and she went to sit down on the bleachers. She didn’t want to interrupt him but the noise she was making probably already did, she hadn’t meant to be so loud. The sky was dark with gray clouds, thank to her being upset. She hated that she had probably ruined everyone’s sunny day, if it was suppose to be sunny. She knew Vermont weather was mostly rainy.

Kouji hated the cold, but he was restless. He dribbled a soccer ball up and down the field at full speed. At least the movement was keeping him warm, even if he was in just a t-shirt and mesh pants. Then again, his mind was busy enough to ignore the cold in the first place. The whole situation with Tak had become much more complicated and he wasn’t exactly sure what to do about it. Kouji typically was one to just look on the bright side and ignore his problems, but if he did that, something could happen to Tak. He wouldn’t let anything happen to Tak. Ever. He did say that he wouldn’t confront Chester, but the more he thought about it the more he wanted to go and pound that redhead’s stupid face in.

Kouji forcefully kicked the ball into the soccer net, letting out a sigh while doing so. And that’s why he was outside, playing by himself in the cold Vermont weather. He loved soccer, and it was the only thing that he could completely focus on and forget anything else around him. Fortunately, it was working. Kouji was working up quite a sweat, having been outside for at least an hour already, and he was completely focused on training. Slowly, he walked over to the net and picked up the ball, giving him a chance to catch his breath before he dropped the ball, kicking it across the field before it hit the ground.

Before he had a chance to chase after it, he heard a noise from over in the stands. He assumed it was another kitten, honestly. About a dozen of them were in the stands just watching him; it was a little weird, but he was used to it, but instead he saw his pink haired friend. “Oi!” He called out, jogging up to the bleachers and over to her. “I didn’t know you like to hang out around here.”

Mia looked over at Kouji and grinned as he came over to the bleachers; she waved to him. She was so ready to blame it on the metal for interrupting him if he was mad at her for it. But It didn’t seem like he was upset, which she was glad. She smiled “Sorry for interrupting you. I didn’t mean to.” She would have been pretty content on just watching him play, she didn’t think she had ever seen him play then again she was pretty sure the boy had never listened to her sing. She found that a bit weird considering they were friends you would think it would come up sometime.

She sighed “I don’t usually do. I was just roaming around the grounds, I got tired of being in my room and I’ve been having a lot on my mind. So I kind of figured maybe I would be able to clear my mind if I walk around.” Mia rested her feet on the bleacher in front of her, resting her arms on her legs and leaning forward. She groaned a little, she wasn’t sure she wanted to talk about it or not, she hadn’t told anyone about what happened with Cameron and she really didn’t have anyone to talk about it with. She wondered if her Uncle had time to listen to her whine about it. “I can’t believe I’ve never seen you actually play.” She said as she looked over the soccer field.

Kouji reached for a water bottle that he had placed with his bag over by the stands and took a few gulps of it. He had only just realized that he was seriously dehydrated, having practiced for so long without taking a single sip of water. “Not at all.” He gave a warm smile. As long as he didn’t have to think about his problems, he was happy. “You’ve got a lot on your mind?” He inquired, climbing up and over the railing so he could get to the stands and sit down next to Mia. “Something wrong?”

He immediately wondered if it had to do with Cameron. The last time they spoke about it, it wasn’t going so well, and he wondered if Mia had finally talked to him. Still, he didn’t want to push the subject, so he continued with the flow of the conversation. “You’ll have to see a game sometime.” He said, bringing a hand to his neck and kneading the muscle. Now that he was sitting, he realized he had pushed himself a bit too far with practice.

Mia shuffled her feet a bit and let out a heavy sigh. “Just… I don’t know.. Cameron really… All of this is just so messed up and I have no clue what to think about it.” She was really confused by the whole thing, even after Ravyn’s birthday it just made no sense what so ever. Though she was pretty sure Kouji would only tell her Cameron wasn’t good enough for her. Or say something horrible about Cameron, really it’s not something she needed now.

Why was it that everyone seemed out to make her life a living hell? Even if they don’t really know they are. She sighed again, wishing that maybe she could just start over completely, be reincarnated or something. Mia smiled and nodded “I will. Tell me when the next game is and I’ll so be there!” She looked at the soccer field “So Why are you out here alone?”

Kouji really had no idea what had happened between Mia and Cam after they last spoke, but he hoped whatever it was that happened was for the better good. “I’m sorry.” He said simply, taking a seat and setting his water bottle on the bleacher next to him. “It must be hard.” He couldn’t tell if Mia actually wanted to talk about it or not, so he made an effort to give answers that were open to being talked about further, while not trying to forcing information out of her.

“The season doesn’t start up again until the spring, now that winter is coming around.” He explained, “But I’ll let you know as soon as I find out the dates!” So why was he practicing, anyway? Well, he liked to practice regardless of it was soccer season or not, but it really helped keep his mind off of life. Sometimes he wondered if Mia should start playing a sport or doing something that helped like soccer helped him.

Mia propped the heels of her feet on the bench she was sitting on and hugged her knees close to her chest. She looked at Kouji “He came to the quarter note like a day ago and… He said.. He loved me.. He said he was in love with me..” But it was obvious Cameron didn’t want to go that extra step and ask her to be his girlfriend. What was she suppose to do? She didn’t feel right about it all. She shook her head and gave a heavy sigh.

Mia nodded and smiled “Alright!” She rested her head on his shoulder and looked out at the soccer field. “What is it like when you play a game?” She wondered if it felt the same way she felt when on stage performing. She wondered if she should start doing something like that also, maybe she should start a band. She will have to talk to Noah about it; maybe he could help her.

Kouji’s eyes widened as Mia explained, and he was a little confused. Hadn’t Cameron been going around sleeping with people? That didn’t sound like love to Kouji, but then again, how was he supposed to know? He was confused about love himself. “What did you tell him?” He couldn’t help but to ask, after all, this was a big deal. Judging from her sigh, he felt like it wasn’t a very good thing that Cameron had confessed his love for Mia.

He smiled as Mia rested her head on his shoulder, and he patted her back softly. “It’s the best feeling in the world.” He explained, gazing out at the field. “I get on the field, and I feel like I belong there. I like the grass crunching under my feet, and the feeling of kicking the ball, and running.” He knew he wasn’t giving his feelings for soccer justice. He was never that good when it came to explaining things, especially deep things like this. All he knew was that playing soccer was just right.

It seems like Kouji had double standards. Wouldn’t Kouji believe Tak if she told him she loved him? What was the difference between Cameron and Tak, in general? She shook her head “I asked him how he was in love with me.. He never really answered… I think I hurt him by questioning it… Then I told him I couldn’t handle being with him while he was dating other people. He said he understood, said we were still friends and then left…” There were so many un-answered questions on both sides. He didn’t seem like he wanted to fight for his love for her, and maybe that’s what she wanted.

Mia smiled “That’s how I feel when I’m performing… On stage, singing” In case he thought something else. “Well not the grass stuff… But I feel so content when I’m on stage singing. Everyone in the crowd just becomes one and it’s like it brings everyone together. When I stand on stage, it’s like nothing can break me down, nothing can stop me. It’s amazing.” She loved singing; but it wasn’t something she was going to make a career out of. She made a promise to a certain person that she was going to pursue a different career and she wasn’t about to break that promise.

Kouji scratched his head, unsure what to say. Mia’s response made sense, yes, but he couldn’t help but to feel a little bad for Cameron. It sounded like she let him down a little harshly. He didn’t really know the situation other than what he had heard though. “Well, at least you guys are still friends.” He replied cautiously. That was one of the main reasons he had yet to tell Tak his feelings for her, because it’d be so hard to going back to being just friends. It’s never that easy.

Kouji had no idea about performing, but if it was anything close to what he felt like when he played soccer, then he was glad that Mia had that. “Yeah, exactly.” He breathed, leaning back on the bleachers. He, on the other hand, was planning to make a career out of it. He felt like it was the only thing he was truly good at, and he belonged there. He wouldn’t be able to promise anyone to pursue a different career. It was a little selfish of him, but it wasn’t something he could just give up.

Mia didn’t feel like she had turned him down; more like the opposite. It wasn’t like he had asked her to be his girlfriend; or even indicated that. From what she got, he wanted her to be something she couldn’t. Cameron wanted her to just sit on the sides lines and watch as he dated everyone till he made up his mind about who he actually wanted to be exclusive with if he even wanted to be exclusive at all. It was all just a big mess. “I don’t even know if we are still friends… He said we were still friends but it’s not like it used to be… Besides that, it’s like he was just playing with me… Because at Ravyn’s birthday bonfire he was being all cuddly with another girl; and it was just a couple days after what happened at the Quarter Note. It’s like what happened didn’t even affect him and somehow that hurts so much more.”


Mia actually didn’t have it anymore; at least not in front of an audience. Sure she still went to the auditorium to sing and play the piano but it was never in front of anyone. Other than, the rare times when someone stumbled upon her like Carter had. She didn’t have a band anymore and didn’t want to be a solo singer. But if it made him feel better that he thought she had that then so be it. Mia had promised her Father after he died that she would pursue the path he always wanted her to pursue; so it was a tough thing for Mia. She was giving up her dreams for her father; it was the least she could do after all he had done for her throughout her life.

The more Kouji listened, the more confused he got. He just wasn’t sure what to say or think. He had a feeling that Mia didn’t want Kouji to call him a jerk and say the normal stuff he did, but then… what was he supposed to say? “Sometimes people… do things to try and cover up being hurt.” He mumbled softly, unsure is he was helping, “So you never know, right?” It was the best he could offer at the moment, and he made sure he’d check to make sure they still had ice cream at the dorm for tonight. Ice cream always made it better. “I know it hurts, but it’ll be okay.” He had that outlook on life in general, and he knew that some people didn’t appreciate it, but he couldn’t help it.

“Do you want to get some lunch?” He asked, looking back out on the field while doing so. Maybe that would be a nice thing for both of them. “I’d just have to change, then we could go downtown or something.” He offered, running a hand through his messy hair. “What do you say?” He lazily turned to Mia, offering his best smile to the pink-haired girl.

No, that was the last thing she wanted to hear from Kouji. The way Mia looked at it, he had no right to call Cameron anything; he barely even knew Cameron and the only things he did know of the blonde was by his reputation which she thought was a crappy way to get to know someone. “Do you think he really is in love with me?” That was probably something she couldn’t handle, if he was really in love with her than she just screwed things up for nothing. Why couldn’t she just trust people? “If you say so..” She wasn’t sure if it will be or not. She knew it was just another mountain to get passed but didn’t believe it would ever stop hurting.

Mia lifted her head off his shoulder and gave him a slight smile. “Sure, lunch sounds good. “ She didn’t mind eating something warm. She stood up and made her way off the bleachers “Let’s go then!” She waved at him as she smiled; forcing herself to go back to her bright energetic, happy self.
