Damsel in Distress (Cee)

[Cee Cohen]

Cee was indeed capable of sarcasm. But it typically only came out while talking about computers, so no one had yet noticed that particular personality trait. Well, no one except the other engineers who did know what he was talking about. And as for recognizing sarcasm, Cee was notoriously bad at it, so he just smiled at Stefan. “Yeah, of course!”

“What, personality?” Cee laughed softly. “I think that’s the first time I’ve been called pretty in that respect either!” Although Cee had once been informed he was geeklicious by a young woman at a hacker convention. At the time, he’d been dating Anna, and so had been unable and disinclined to figure out whether that was a good thing or a bad thing.

Cee nodded. “Thank you. I think I might have a spare set of glasses somewhere.” They didn’t help as much as contacts would, but it was definitely progress in the right direction. He shuffled over to the couch carefully, wishing he’d invested in one of those canes that was supposed to be of some use somehow, and then managed to make it to the couch. “Ah. Your…” Had he said cat or dog? “Your pet imbibes alcohol?” He was a little worried. Was that healthy?

"Well thank you, my good sir," Stefan said, still laughing a little. Some may have found Cee's personality quirks a tad...impeding to conversation. But Stefan thought they were endearing, almost innocent. Besides, Stefan could hold a conversation with a brick wall if his blood alcohol level was right.

"Really?" Stefan said, showing his surprise. "I can't believe that a fine looking young man like yourself doesn't drive all the ladies wild." Okay, so maybe he was laying it on a little thick, but it really did make his feel sad for Cee that the younger man had never been called pretty before. Obviously Stefan would have to make a habit of meeting up with him more often. Since Stefan was, if nothing else, great at giving compliments.

Stefan held back a laugh at the idea that Cee carried a spare set of glasses with him. Then again, if his eyesight was that bad, he would probably do the same thing. He found a clean shirt to change into, washed up his face in the bathroom, and grabbed one of his spare canes from the closet.

Almost as if he knew he was being discussed, Sebastian appeared just as Stefan was coming back to the living room. He sniffed at Cee for a moment before rubbing up against Stefan and meowing loudly.

"Yeah, vodka mostly," Stefan answered as he grab a saucer for the cat. "I get whatever's one sale and tell him it's the good stuff. He doesn't know the difference." He poured a shot into the saucer and set it down. The cat began purring as he licked it up.

"And what can I get for my knight in shinning armor?" Stefan asked.

Cee laughed. “I’ve never been called ‘fine looking,’ either. I think ‘decent’ is how my last girlfriend described me. For a geek. Good looking is not a word that anyone recalls to describe me.” But he didn’t mind. He was intelligent and good at his jobs—um, most days. Being easy on the eyes had never occurred to him, although he really wasn’t that bad to look at all. He also didn’t believe Stefan was truly being serious, but hey.

Cee reached out a hand to the cat to sniff, a little hesitantly as his experience with animals tended to be not of the positive kind (namely, they sure liked to chew on his cables). But the cat promptly ignored him to go have its saucer of vodka.

All right then.

“I don’t know the difference, either, so I am supposing I should not be surprised.” The cat was purring. “Does he get…drunk? Never mind, I don’t want to know.” He rose to his feet and smiled at him. “I’ll take whatever you are imbibing, and thank you.”

He ended up spending the night and woke up with a killer hangover, but it had all been worth it. Definitely.
