Thoughtfully His Right? (Mia)

Eve felt light that day. It was sunny and slightly warmer than it had been in weeks. Spring was on it's way, she could almost feel it. With a bounce in her step, she walked into the old fashioned fifty styled cafe. Where could she go wrong in a place like this? It was quiet, old fashioned music playing from the jukebox.

Without heels pinching her feet and bright clothes that swarmed her body, she felt light. She felt like she could do anything and even take on Uriah if he showed up. Was that even possible? Her mind traveled from her ex best friend to a student who didn't even take her class. Mia had ran into her earlier in the year, in tears. She had been thinking of an ex-boyfriend. His name was Tal...? Well, that was his nickname and he had left without telling her anything.

Eve made the girl sit down and talk to her. "Spill it," she had said playfully. Soon the girls had made a connection, through similar happenings and singing. Eve hadn't expected Mia to show up in the fifties diner. Hell, she was going to write out a new song to practice.

The teacher looked up to see Mia. "Miss Bell," she said, waving her hand to the other side of the booth and stuffing her book into her bag. "What can I do for ya?"

Mia walked through the mall, avoiding the Quarter Note. She had been avoiding it since December, thinking her Uncle didn’t want anything to do with her now. But that wasn’t the point. She had came to the mall because she had nothing better to do. This never really happened, she made herself busy so she didn’t have time to herself. Because when she did, most of the time there were water works.

If she were to sit in her room, she could be crying over yet another boy, one that she had cried over before. How many times was she going to cry over a boy? And how many times for this certain one? She thought she had enough of this with Cameron. But even then, maybe it hadn’t been because of Cameron, not whole heartly. When she was alone thinking about Cameron, she started to think about Tal. She never really got over him, and now he was back in her life. What the hell should she do? Could she really stay friends with him? Would he be willing to wait till she figured things out? Would he even understand her doubts if she told him everything that happened to her? Would he still have feelings for her, even if she told him about her self-harm? Would he still want to be with her if he knew?

Mia saw Ms.Stonefeather in the 50s café, it hadn’t been a place she been into since she turned vegan, granted she hadn’t been into a lot of food places since then. She walked into the café and moved toward the woman. “I… Well…” Should she really talk about it in here? She knew if she talked about Tal she would start crying and she hated crying in public. “Never mind.. I’m sorry, I don’t want to bother you.” She dipped her head and moved to walk away.

Eve grabbed the student's arm gently and pulled her into the booth next to her. She wasn't sure if Mia still had parents or if they were caring, but her parents were always there to care for her and to comfort her about boy troubles and though Eve was an only child, she still felt an older sister feeling.

"You can talk to me Mia and I'll even allow you to call me Eve outside of the classroom because you aren't one of my students." Eve waved the waitress over to order two chocolate milkshakes.

She put a comforting arm around Mia and looked at the young lady. "Alright, what's his name and why is he hurting you?" she asked.

Mia felt Eve pull her into the booth. She merely sighed; she didn’t want to burden the woman with her problems. But that was something that she knew wasn’t going to help her in the future and she needed to learn how to let people help her.

“Well, if your letting me call you Eve, than please just stick to Mia. I feel like I just got in trouble when people call me Miss Bell.” Mia waved her hands a little “Oh, Nothing for me, thank you though.” She was vegan, she couldn’t drink milkshakes.

“It’s my ex.. Tal.. Who I told you about before..It’s not that he hurt me. But I bumped into him a couple days ago.. He’s a student at Hammal.”

Eve accepted the milkshake with gratitude. She had been sixteen once, which meant that they were going to be here for a while. And she had forgotten that Mia was vegan. "You can get something to eat. I forgot you were vegan," she said.

The teacher leaned against the wall and took a sip of the ice cream. Tal, that name did ring a bell. Wasn't he in one of her classes? "So, this Tal guy, he's in Hammel now. Isn't that a good thing?" Eve already knew the answer to this. She wasn't sure what Tal did to Mia, but whatever it was, she was definitely hurt. And if Uriah had shown up at Hammel, she would probably be an emotional wreck as well.

Being a teacher, she got to watch the interaction between her students, which also meant, she knew to tread carefully when it came to talking about guys with teenage girls. "What happened?" she asked.

Mia smiled sheepishly and shook her head “Nah, I’m not really hungry.. And I don’t think they have anything vegan here…” It was an ice cream place after all and ‘comfort’ foods didn’t usually mean ‘her’ comfort food. “though… Could I get a small bowl of gummy bears?” Because really, what ice cream place wouldn’t have gummy bears… “thank you!” She said to the waitress as she brought her order over.

Did she really have a class with Tal? She didn’t remember him, then again she really didn’t pay much attention to the people she had classes with. She was there to learn, what a great student, right? Mia ate a gummy bear to think of an answer. “…I honestly don’t know… I mean… God… I…” She was at a loss for words, and it wasn’t much about what he had done to her and that he hurt her. But, it was about what every guy has done to her, “I really don’t know..” Granted, with Cameron it had been her, not him, still the boy hadn’t given her a reason why she should trust any guy with her heart. And that was the dilemma that she was facing.

“What happened when we met? Or what happened between us three years ago?” She was willing to talk about both, but she didn’t want to waste breath if the woman only wanted to know about one.

Eve put her hand to her chin. “How about you just start at the beginning?” she said. The woman came by to refill her milkshake. “Thank you.” What had happened between Mia and Tal? Did she have Tal in any of her classes? Earlier, she had confirmed that she didn’t. Perhaps... Yes, she didn’t.

This definitely reminded her of Uriah. How was that fair? For someone so young to go through what she had gone through. Eve didn’t have anyone but her mother to turn to whenever she needed to talk, and she was pretty sure that Mia didn’t have anyone to turn to about this as well. She took a drink of her milkshake.

Mia sighed “You might want to get comfortable..” It wasn’t a really long story, but Mia did have a way to make short stories into really long ones, it didn’t help that she had a habit for going on tangents.”Well, I was twelve when we started dating.. He was thirteen. I had skipped a grade, so we were in the same grade; of course.” She looked at the ceiling; trying to remember the important details. “I was being bullied by this girl, who of course was older than me, that same girl actually started to bully me again a couple years later… Anyways.” Tangent, “ Tal had stopped her that one time from bulling me, for a while the girl didn’t bother me, but that’s not the point. He asked me out and I said yes, which was against my parents wishes, we kind of dated secretly because I wasn’t allowed to date till I was at least thirteen. Even so, I think they still knew there was something more between me and Tal than just a friendship. It was good and all, I mean there had been a few fights we had. Tal was a very jealous boy, not sure if that has changed, but I guess him still being jealous would be a very nice change in my life now…” She took a breath, knowing by what she had said hadn’t said much about here and now.

She looked down at the table. “Hmm… So we had a great relationship otherwise, I mean I think I had fallen in love with him, but I guess I was too young to see it. I was thirteen when we broke up, so we were together for about a year. Which has been the longest relationship I ever had, not that I have had many… One night he had taken me onto this cliff, it was very beautiful, as a date and everything. He had asked about a guy that I had been talking to, who was just a friend, and I tried telling him that but I guess I was just frustrated that he didn’t seem to trust me. And I was tired of him always asking that question, but now I understand his jealousy better now. But anyways, he pushed me and I pushed him back and…. I guess I pushed him too hard and he had fallen of the rock, cliff whatever. He of course was okay, not really sure how he was, but he was. The next day he had just came over and said he was leaving.” Tears started to fill her eyes at the memory. “ He didn’t say good bye, he didn’t say why he was leaving, I thought it was because he hated me, because his parents had stayed, they were still living in Barrow. So I just thought it was because he hated me… He never wrote, never emailed, never called, he had just left.. and that’s how we broke up.” She looked at Eve, knowing she had said a lot.

Eve was right, she really didn’t have anyone to talk to this about. She wasn’t on good terms with her mother, she never really went to friends to talk about her problems; she felt like they had enough to deal with, with their own problems they didn’t need hers as well. So, talking about it all now felt like a weight had been lifted off her chest.
