The Basics
Name: Morgan Scott Tonaya
Nicknames: His mother (mark: ONLY his mother) calls him Morgy on occasion. If you do, he might punch you.
Age: 29 (Birthday May 16)
Orientation: Straight, but not narrow. (Bicurious is the best word)
Desired Rank/Job: Trainer/ History Teacher
Powers: Light/Dark Manipulation: Well…technically just light. Morgan only appears to have control over both light and shadow because in the absence of light, the shadow grows to take its place. Or at least that’s how Morgan likes to explain it. Really he is just too terrified of the dark to have any desire to control it.
Morgan’s power manifests as the ability to create and sustain bursts of light by drawing from the light around him: that includes any light. Starlight. Lamplight. Firelight. Sunlight. Its all light. If need be, Morgan will use it. These gatherings of light can be manipulated to go off like a flash bomb or fireworks in bursts, or to remain dimmer and usable in the palm of his hand, much like a natural flashlight. Morgan believes he is capable of making walls or fields of light, but has yet to test this extreme limit of his power.
While Morgan’s power gives him control of the entire spectrum of light, he stays away from anything that is not visible. Because he can’t see this light, it is difficult to control, and he fears the unknown side effects of toying with things like Infrared and Ultraviolet.
Morgan’s phobia of the absence of light stems from the deep connection he feels to the light due to his power, but other side-effects include terribly poor night-vision (he’s bound to bump into walls at dusk), and generally diminished eyesight. Doctors have told him that due to prolonged use of his powers, he could go blind as early as fifty. Also, because of the chemical reactions Morgan harnesses to control light, his skin and the air surrounding him will become very hot. If he is not careful, he could suffer very intense burns. This side effect is especially potent when Morgan is harnessing or controlling light from bulbs, rather than light from the Sun

The Details
Hair Color: Sandy Blonde
Eye Color: Green
Any Piercings? No
Any Tattoos? Yes, two. Both are comic-book related. The first is across his right wrist, and simply reads “In brightest day…” in simple black lettering.
The second is on his left-back ribcage, just below his shoulder blade in blue script. There he has the Blue Lantern oath printed, along with the Blue Lantern Symbol. It reads: “In fearful day, in raging night/With strong hearts full, our souls ignite/When all seems lost in the War of Light/Look to the stars-- For hope burns bright!” This is his newest acquisition, and he has only had it for a few months (since the oath was printed in the comics).
Any Scars? None to speak of
General Appearance:
Morgan looks like a bit of a slacker. His hair is long, and he usually sports a bit of scruff on his face, but that doesn’t mean he is dirty. He just generally prefers a relaxed and approachable look to the average suit and tie. On the contrary, Morgan is remarkably clean and professional looking, when he wants to be. While he certainly prefers a relaxed button-up and dark-washed jeans to a suit, when the occasion calls he’ll don either (though generally he prays the occasion doesn’t call).
The most arresting thing about Morgan’s appearance is truly his face. Though he is scarcely thirty, his face his mapped by laugh lines and creases caused by emotion, making his face very deep and expressive, particularly his eyes. Those dusty green eyes of his turn up whenever he flashes his youthful grin, making that hopeful and playful look one of the most intense expressions he can sport.
Height and build-wise, Morgan is another story. It is clear that Morgan is no slacker when it comes to his fitness and health. His skin has a healthy, sun-warmed tone to compliment his blonde hair and his shoulders look comparatively broad thanks to a narrow waist. Morgan loves to ride his bike and swim, even cliff dive. Anything fun? Morgan is up to it, but his body has to be able to take him there, so he makes sure to take good care of it.
Personality: Though Morgan managed somehow to garner a bad reputation, it was all an accident. You see, Morgan is in love with love. That being said, it shows on the trail of broken hearts he’s managed to leave behind. If you interview these girls, they’ll tell you they never want to see Morgan again, but not because he was ever lowdown or mean: they just can’t see themselves as just friends. Morgan has a tendency to do that. He’ll sweep you off your feet, and pull you onto his white horse…then realize you aren’t the one and gently set you back on earth again, leaving you wondering what the hell happened and where he went. Make no mistake though, its all a misunderstanding. Morgan doesn’t have an ill-meaning bone in his body. His ultimate goal in life is to just find that one, perfect woman (or man), and if someone gets hurt, well its just an accident.
Boyishly sweet, Morgan comes off as the guy next door. His infectious smile speaks loads for his bubbly personality. He clearly likes to have fun, and will sometimes slack off in work just to have it. With a kid-at-heart mentality, Morgan treats each day and each person as a unique gift. Though he can sometimes come off as geeky (mostly because he is a gigantic nerd), his warmth generally makes him reasonably popular, if not sometimes overlooked.
What he is most full of though, is Hope. Morgan knows that someday he’ll find the One. He knows that someday he’ll be able to travel the world unguarded as a meta-human. He knows that someday, Hammel won’t have to be so secret.
Morgan is a Momma’s boy. He’ll admit it. He’ll say it. He’ll probably prove it to you by dragging you to his mother’s house in pilot ridge. His mother was the one who believed in Morgan from the very beginning, and the one who gave him everything. For that reason, he loves her with the same unguarded affection and pure heart with which he approaches everything.

History
Young love is a beautiful thing. Young motherhood? Not so much. Elaine Tonaya, student of the Hammel Institute for Meta-Humans, found herself pregnant at the tender age of sixteen. With a baby on the way, and the father none too keen on it, Elaine did the best she could to raise her child with her now ex-boyfriend Marcus. Fortunately the school and the community rallied around her, and she managed to graduate when he was two. Having a father from a wealthy family. Morgan was ensured to be provided for. Though Marcus didn’t exactly want to be in the child’s life, he and his family ensured that Morgan and his mother would be safe, and want for nothing. At one point, Marcus and Elaine had plans for marriage, but they abandoned them early when they realized they were truly incompatible and that their love was born of a simple teenage romance. Though they remain friends to this day, the parents decided it was best if Marcus remained outside of Morgan’s life, leaving Elaine to raise him.
Though she rested on Marcus’ income for years, Elaine eventually declined child support. Morgan was her child, and though Marcus had helped make him, she didn’t really want to share. In the end, Marcus and Elaine finally parted ways when Morgan was three, long before the blonde bundle of joy could put memories to his father’s face. It never did break the boy’s spirit. If anything it brought him closer to his mother. As he entered schooling age and the other girls and boys would ask where his daddy was, he’d simply smile and tell them he didn’t need one; “I have a mommy.”
Though Elaine was meta-human, she was never sure if her son was or not. To the date of his birth there was no way to tell until puberty. The only thing that really set Morgan apart from the other children was his prolonged fear of the dark. When other girls and boys reached the age of seven or so, they ceased to fear the darkness. For Morgan, these fears never went away. He slept with a night light every night until he was twelve. He probably would have continued to sleep with it had a summer storm not blown out the power. Terrified that the suffocating blackness would consume him and his mother, Morgan simply hoped that the light would return. And return it did.
In force.
Morgan managed to gather the candle light from his home and the surrounding houses to relight his night light bright enough to wash the room in a glow.
It didn’t take Elaine long to have the Hammel institute, the school up the street and her Alma matter, on the phone.
So he was off. Choosing to live in the dorms rather than with his mom, Morgan enjoyed his years at Hammel. He blossomed socially (seemed he was quite the Casanova), and managed to apply himself scholastically. While he never received the perfect grades he was an eager, attentive learner…at least while he was interested. Power training was great! English was great! History? Not so much. Though he grew into an all around well adjusted fellow, Morgan would never understand why history could be so boring.
Once he graduated Hammel, he made it his mission to reform history in the eyes of all beholders. Having had to study very hard to pass the hideously boring course, Morgan discovered that history wasn’t boring at all. It was awesome! Determined to bring his newfound love of history to the masses of bored children, Morgan attended a local university to earn his teaching degree in ancient history (where it seemed he continued to be a bit of a Casanova). While in school there, Morgan continued to train with older students and other staff at Hammel to truly master his power.
Like many young men though, the wind caught Morgan in his heart. Though he had spent his entire life in Vermont, and there was nothing he loved more than his home and his mother, he felt something pulling him away. Thirsty for knowledge of the outside world, Morgan left home for a few years to seek a job as a professor at a school in California. The gig worked out for a few years, but something else came along to shake things up a little too hard: a girl.
Or rather, a woman. A married woman. Though something told Morgan it was all wrong to be with a committed woman, in his heart he couldn’t say no. It took the strength of his Lady’s heart and her desire to truly be with her husband forever to deter Morgan at all. Though she let him down gently, he’ll still occasionally sigh when he sees her picture. Finally, after seven years in California, Morgan was ready to go home. He missed the grass. He missed the mountains. He missed his mom.
He missed Hammel.
Embracing his talents with his abilities (slightly rusty, though he was, at age twenty-seven), Morgan sought a job as both a high school world history instructor and an ability trainer. Having been a good student throughout his years at Hammel, Morgan was able to easily take to the position. Though he sometimes finds it hard to keep up with everything in his life, Morgan wouldn’t have it any other way. He loves helping other element manipulators. He loves bringing history to life for kids who’d rather be playing anyway.
Through it all though, He has always loved his Mom.
Currently living in Pilot Ridge (away from his mother, believe it or not), Morgan hopes to soon find someone to settle down with. The One to complete his life and help everything fall into place.
