The easy S T U F F . . .Name: Jacob Tyler Lawrence
Nickname: Jake, JT, Jakey
Age: Twenty-eight
Member Group: Local
Power(s): Shadow Manipulation - Jake is able to bring shadows to life as temporary physical beings. He is also able to disappear completely into shadows. Unfortunately, this makes him extremely photosensitive and unable to be in direct sunlight. He often has to wear sunglasses and slather himself with sunscreen when going out during daylight hours. Animating shadows also drains on him, so keeping too many around or for too long can result in severe cases of fatigue and vertigo.

"Never have I ever... been an only child."
Jacob was born into a fairly large family. Three brothers, two sisters, and he was the youngest of them all. You'll never get him to talk too much about his time at home, but not because it was an awful ordeal. The truth of the matter is, it was extremely average in every way possible. Every day turned out almost exactly the same as the last; it was monotonous and boring and nothing that happened was never worth relaying in his mind. At least, that is, until his powers developed. Out of the whole known history of his family, only one other person had developed such skills (a great uncle) and he had been rapidly disowned upon discovery of his abilities. Though Jake's family hadn't been quite so severe, they had been rather glad to give him to Hammel, a place where they wouldn't have to see him acting odd and ruining the mold his parents had carved out for each of their children.
There were never any hard feelings on his part towards his parents for giving him up so easily, mainly because life at Hammel suited him much better than life at home ever had. The monotony was gone and he finally could live how he wanted to, within reasonable guidelines of course. He was perhaps even more excited for going than his parents were for him to be gone. He wanted to learn these powers he'd been blessed with, the powers that made him different and gave him a chance to see the world from a different perspective. It got him to a place he'd never even knew existed, allowed him to meet people that would forever change the course of his life.
At first, Jacob threw himself into being the best student he possibly could, but it seemed that fate had other plans for him. These other plans happened to involve one of his roommates. Other plans by the name of Gabriel Underwood.
"Never have I ever... been suspended from school."
Well, he didn't say anything about detentions, because he's had a ton of them thanks to a certain someone. Upon meeting Gabriel for the first time, Jake was fascinated. When it came to role models, Jacob was in the negatives. He never looked up to his parents or any of his older siblings, as far as he were concerned they were just faceless people that fate dictated he was related to. There was nothing about them that made them worth respecting or admiring, unless of course you find monotony to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. But Gabe... there was just something about the way he held himself and they way he used his power that actually made Jake want to be like him. And things just started going downhill from there.
Even without using his powers, Gabriel was able to get Jake to do things he never normally would have done, but Jacob was so intent on impressing his older roommate that he acted without thinking of the consequences. Said consequences generally involved being scolded by a teacher or being held after class and, yes, plenty of detentions. Thankfully, Gabe's physical influence only lasted two years before he graduated, but the two stayed in touch even as he went off to pursue further education. Occasionally he convinced Jake to pull a nasty prank or two, but most of his misbehavior left with Gabriel. He was able to focus on his school work and mastering his powers from then on, which he did very well at. If he was really going to impress his friend, he knew that control of his ability was imperative.
"Never have I ever... had a real job."
Upon graduating from Hammel, Jake struggled with finding employment. With the money he'd saved from what his parents had sent him when he was still in school, he was able to get an apartment, but the rest of his income came from odd jobs around town. Things like painting houses or doing yardwork or fixing roofs. He was a strapping young man, so he put his body to work. It was rough making ends meet, but somehow he always managed to scrape up enough money to make it through the months and got plenty of exercise along the way.
Once again, just as Jake began to settle into his new lifestyle, fate threw a wrench in the plans. After hearing about a nearby anti-meta rally, Jake's interest was piqued. He'd met his fair share of metas even outside of Hammel and most of them hid their powers from the normal humans around them, so what were these people angry about? From what he'd seen and what he knew of the meta community, it just didn't make sense to him. Sure, he'd used his powers to cause mischief when he was in school, but upon graduating he only used them in the presence of other metas, or at least out of sight of his non-powered neighbors and friends. His curiosity got the better of him as he then began to make plans to visit this rally to see just what these people were up to.
When he arrived at the rally, it was similar to what he had been expecting. People with signs, shouting, speeches, and demonstrations. A typical rally. What he hadn't been expecting, however, was the chance that he might bump into someone he knew: Gabriel. They reminisced among the crowd of people that hated them for something they couldn't control and Jake's old ways were soon revived. Gabriel's words were enough to turn the relatively peaceful rally into sheer chaos. "What do you say we give them something to be angry about?"
After that, things changed even more.
"Never have I ever... been in love."
Not that he'd ever admit to, at least. Meeting up with Gabe again gave Jake renewed purpose as well as a better place to call home. They fell into a sort of haphazard relationship, one in which Jacob's lingering fascination with the man played a major role. With little to no effort, Gabe convinced him to join his organization, told him all the little stories that Jake had seen on the news from a different perspective. Gabriel gave him that little taste of power, that little something else that made him realize what he could do with the gift he was given and Jacob could finally prove to him what he was capable of.
The nights that they would lay in bed together, Gabriel would talk to him about his plans. He taught him about politics, about the ways of the world that Jake had not yet learned. Though he was interested in learning, he picked up even quicker as he hung on every word that spilled from his lover's lips. Though Jacob did not have the chance to pursue higher education, he was more than proud in saying that learned all he knew from a brilliant man.
Whether it was bias or just Jake's skill, he quickly moved up in the organization until he was Gabriel's right hand man. Part of him entertained the thought that he earned it just by sleeping with the ringleader, but the more sensible half appreciated the work he had done to advance. That way, other members in the organization viewed him as competent rather than just a whore. Just because he shared Gabriel's bed did not mean that he wasn't capable of pulling off some very complicated missions.
But good things don't always last and everyone makes mistakes.
Jacob's mistake came in the form of a rather promiscuous woman he met in a bar. After causing a rather violent riot, Jake decided to treat himself to a couple rounds at the bar. The couple turned into a lot and the next thing he knew, he woke up in his bed with a woman he didn't recognize and a scowling face he hated that he knew: Gabriel. No amount of apologies and desperate begging seemed to work, but there was something that he didn't know. Gabe said the breakup was because of Jake's infidelity, but the underlying reason was that he was getting too attached to Jacob.
He was heartbroken, understandably, but he was professional enough to separate his work and his relationship troubles. Well, as separate as he could and I know of few things more dividing than the Atlantic Ocean and a continent.
"Never have I ever... been to Europe."
Asia is another matter. In fact, Jacob has just recently returned from a long stay in China. As head of the operations there, he spent over a year studying Mandarin Chinese and since his time there has become fluent in the language. Though his job was to cause civil unrest in the Chinese people, things did not go so smooth. What he didn't take into account was the general distrust the Chinese had for outsiders and Jake certainly didn't fit in with the general look of the populace. Luckily, he was able to cover up everything that went wrong overseas. The issues seemed to just vanish and everything went back to normal, though China is still a destination for Gabriel's organization.
Back in the states once again, Jake is now offering his assistance in recruiting talented students from Hammel and trying to get over everything that happened in the past.Behind the M A S K . . .Name: Jesus! Or Rae... I'm not picky.
