Fun Time in the Infirmary(Dr. Nik)

Xavier got escorted to the infirmary of the doctor who knew exactly what damage he had done to the other kid. The security dropped him off and moved down the hall, but stayed close in case Xavier took the opportunity to run. There wasn't much choice to stay or go. He had to get his hands fixed. They were still stuck in fists with a couple of his fingers in odd directions turning black and blue.

Xavier was in a ton of pain, but none of it showed on his face. He wouldn't let it. He walked into the office cradling his hands against his chest. His knuckles were split open and three fingers broken in total. The shirt that he now had on was covered in blood, but he had ruined most of his shirts anyways. He had a bruise on his chest but other than his hands and that he was mostly scratch free. The only other noticeable thing was all of the burn scars that traced his body from the times his fire burnt himself.

Xavier looked up to once he was inside the infirmary. He hated needles and tended to avoid getting any shots. He didn't like being in an enclosed place that had so many things that go wrong in it. Xavier watched as the door behind him shut. If he wasn't in so much pain he would have never have come.

Nakia was decidedly unhappy with the turn of events that had occurred earlier. One student was in the hospital and another had fled across the campus, streaking around in the nude like a college student on an American spring break. Granted, it was more about the younger of the two in her mind; the poor child had suffered so much, and to top it all off, it was on his first day of school. The broken bones, the burns, not to mention the mental scarring... even under her healing touch, it would take months for him to fully recover, even if he could return to class after a few weeks.

Now that she thought about it, "decidedly unhappy" might be a little bit of an understatement.

When Xavier walked in, the albino woman had already prepared the infirmary and herself; a single bed had curtains drawn around it on all but one side, fresh clothes had been set aside on the end (in case he had still been nude and embarrassed about the fact), Nik herself had tied her shoulder-length white hair into a high ponytail and covered her hands in blue surgical gloves of hypoallergenic polyethylene. She stood reading his medical file, notating previous treatment for burns from other hospital visits, but looked up with sharp blue eyes as he and a security officer walked in.

She'd been expecting them.

Hands stiff and curled in, cradled to chest; intense pain. Fingers bruised heavily, scabbed over, several swelling and misplaced; several fractured. Hunched posture, face blank... he knows how to hide pain.

"Mr. O'Conner," she began, her accent giving the name an exotic lilt. "Have a seat."

Xavier hated hospital and in turn the infirmary. He hated the smell of the disinfectant spray and He also hated needles. Xavier also wasn't too happy about Dr. Nik. She had been the one to help Clement and he was now in the hospital. She knew exactly what damage Xavier had caused to the boy.

Xavier grudgingly did as he was told and sat down keeping his hand against his chest trying not to move them. The pain in his hands felt terrible and every time he tried to uncurl his fingers he got a wave of pain and nausea. If his hands didn't hurt so bad he wouldn't have come to the infirmary in the first place. He kept a straight face trying not to show any emotion.

Xavier's body temperature was normally high because of his powers but Xavier was trying to keep his skin a little warmer. It was more for comfort than for starting anything. Xavier wasn't very good at controlling his powers so his temperature was changing up and down by a couples of degrees.

Nakia didn't care what Xavier thought of her, and she also didn't care that he didn't want to be here. She had been asked to tend to the boy by someone she respected, and even if she hadn't it would have been against her Hippocratic Oath not to. She would treat him like any other patient; with professionalism and understanding, even if she viewed his actions as wrong. She wasn't about to pass total judgement since she hadn't been there to understand all the variables leading to the fight, but the albino woman certainly did not condone such unrestrained violence, let alone against an opponent smaller than the aggressor.

Closing the file and setting it aside, the pale woman walked over and sat down across from Xavier, looking over what she could see of his injuries more intently. He would need his hands in casts for at least four weeks, even given her ability to calcify the breaks and mend the broken blood vessels. The swelling would go down with ice packs, but pyrokinetics were exceptionally sensitive to cold - she would probably just keep an eye on the swelling herself and allow the boy some aspirin for the pain if it was needed.

"I'll need to see your hands, please," she started, holding out her own to imply that he needed to place them into her own. "How much can you open and close them at all, and which area hurts the most?" That would probably be the areas that had broken bones, but if there was another area that hurt, it could be cut muscles or ligaments.

Xavier slowly moved his hands slowly toward Dr. Nik. He gently put them in her hands and hoped she didn't try to move them. Xavier gritted his teeth in pain of moving his hands. " I can't open them at all." Xavier responded barley above a whisper trying to hide the obvious pain he was in.

" It hurts along some of my fingers and along my knuckles. "Xavier looked away from his hands trying not to watch. It didn't feel much better not watching but at least he wasn't staring at pain. Xavier couldn't exactly point to which fingers hurt the most because that involved using his already in pain his hands.

"Stupid armor." Xavier added under his breathe. Clement's armor had been hard to punch and had destroyed Xavier's hands. If it wasn't for the armor then Xavier would have escaped with a mere bruise and a few split knuckles.

Taking the battered appendages gently in her own, Nik used the slightest pressure possible to turn his arms at the elbow to look them over. It was just as bad as she thought - there was bruising and burns everywhere. She nodded with his assessment of the pain, and she could see where Xavier's fingers twitched and shook whenever they hurt a little more. Definitely broken bones.

"All right," she replied softly. "Don't worry; I can help fix this. Though perhaps next time, you should make sure not to hit other students. There are even worse powers than this here at the school when it comes to defense." Such as another student who had the ability to cover herself in porcupine-like quills. That may have done more damage than even she could fix.

Lowering her hands to allow the boy some space, the albino woman walked over to a cabinet and retrieved a couple packets from the inside. They were triage packets for casts, something she'd managed to negotiate for with the local medical suppliers, and so far they worked wonders. She brought the silver bags back with her and set them on the bed before returning to her position in front of the pyrokinetic.

"Mr. O'Conner, I'm going to heal your hands a bit," she warned, taking off her polyethylene gloves and putting them on a tray nearby. "It'll hurt a little, and you're feel a bit of cold on your wrists, but the swelling will go down and I can move your fingers into a cast. Would you like an aspirin before we start?" Unlike major hospitals, Nik didn't have much in the way of anesthesia. This would hurt - likely a lot - but she would try and make sure it was as painless as possible.

Things that were supposed to help him only made things sound worse for Xavier. He hated being cold that didn't sound like a fun thing to help heal a bone. A cast didn't sound so good either. Having a cast on fire while connected to his arm until it burned through so it could fall off. None of those sounded good but he would have to go through both to heal his arm right.

" Fine. Lets get this over with." Xavier gritted his teeth against any pain he would feel while Dr. Nik healed him and put a cast on. Depending on how much it hurt Xavier also readied himself to jump up and pull his hands back. " I don't need aspirin." Xavier didn't want to need anything but that meant later on he would regret not taking aspirin anyways.

Nik nodded, understanding (if not agreeing with) the machismo. Her husband often refused medicine on things and tended to only cave on it if she threatened to heal him, so in a way it was similar. "All right then, this'll be just a moment."

Touching her hands to Xavier's wrists, the woman loosened her tightly bound restraints and tightened her jaw against the sudden pain in her hands. The pyrokinetic certainly had some rough times, but at least no bones had punctured the skin, which made this job much easier. All it took was some recalcifying of the fractures to the point of stability (but not complete healing), fixing the broken blood vessels to restore blood flow (causing the back of her hands to turn slightly dark with bruising), and lessening the inflammation slightly to bring down the swelling (which made her knuckles ache a bit, but nothing extreme). Reigning in her powers once again, the ghostly woman looked over his hands again and nodded. It would do for now.

Opening the packets next to her, Nik gently began straightening each finger on Xavier's right hand one by one, keeping an eye on his reactions just to be sure she wasn't hurting him. The cast would basically be a two-finger splint bound up and locked into an immovable brace made from a particular gauze and a quick-dry plaster. She'd lock his fingers together first to render them immobile, then apply apply the cast from his fingers to just below his wrist. It would take a bit of time and discomfort, but the pain would feel less soon after.

The whole healing process hurt like crazy. It took all of Xavier's will powers not to ump out of Dr. Nik's reach. He knew it had to be done whether he liked it or not. " How long do I have to keep these things on? What happens when I burn them?" Two very important questions in Xavier's opinion. He did not like being stuck without movement in his hands and there was a good chance that he might light on fire again.

Pain had finally broke through on Xavier's face. After his hands being healed and the cold he couldn't keep a straight face anymore.

As Nik straightened the fingers out gently and braced them with finger splints, she answered the questions in a mild and gentle tone. "I can only heal so much every week," she explained, "so the bones will take about three to four weeks to heal properly, even with weekly visits. Even the small movements I've done today have weakened the bonds I put on them. If you drink plenty of milk and keep your hands still, we may have the casts off in eighteen days. You'll still need the splints until the bones are fully healed, but the hard casts will come off soon enough."

Looking up briefly at the boy's stricken face, the doctor felt a small rash of guilt. It really wasn't her fault that this procedure was so painful, but... maybe she could see if the suppliers could allow her some topical anesthetic. They had already given her a number of EpiPens and insulin vials, though that was for more common for school children and less likely to be abused or stolen. "The hard casts are very fire resistant," she assured him. "The plaster we use is similar to concrete in a way, so it won't burn off easily. The gauze is a different story because it's cotton, but it's been laced with a fire retardant and a waterproofing before coming to the school. The benefits of being a school for gifted students."

Nik took the wrapping slowly and gently, making sure to ease every finger into place with as little pain as possible before strapping them down firmly. This could be fixed - it would take a while, but it could be fixed. Xavier just needed to stay out of trouble for a bit.
