Being back at Hammel was...odd. Being back in Vermont was even more odd. It was reaching the month mark since he came back into Pilot Ridge and he still wasn't back into his old routine. Living above his mother's bakery on his own while she lives at the old house, a good 15 miles or so away from his father's new place was so different. The apartment complex above the bakery had always been a place for storage or whenever Flynn needed a place to crash. Now that Flynnie was gone and the storage wasn't quite as needed, Ash decided to make it his own. It was easier getting to work on time now, though he wasn't planning on working at the bakery forever. After all, that was why he was even visiting Hammel. He was in training to become a recruiter of sorts. But first, he needed to perfect his own ability.
Walking through the school grounds towards the main part of campus, it felt like he was back at the Institute as a young man still figuring out the path his life was taking. Things were different now though, what with him having fixed his mental health after the divorce and without the woman he had intended on marrying. It had been a mistake made by the boy he had been before, but he was fixing himself and growing in his maturity. Now he knew that he was too young for marriage and before he got into another serious relationship, he fully intended on getting his future sorted out.
Once he reached the wing of the building he was supposed to be in, he found himself reminiscing on all of the memories he had. Being back at his old school was far more nostalgic than he had expected. It wasn't as though he had many memories to go off of. There was the awkward run-ins with attractive girls in every part of the school and the memory was always the same, him stuttering and tripping over his words in front of them. One would think that after spending such a long time with Tae, he'd have gotten over that speech impediment problem. That person would be wrong. Ashton still had trouble speaking to people he didn't know or if he found them attractive in any way. It was sort of a problem when speaking in front of people in stressful situations, but he could handle taking orders at the bakery. Progress.
Ash passed by one of the training rooms, hands in his pockets and his power began acting up, prickling his skin when he felt the power of another nearby. He didn't pay much attention at first, thinking it was an official or maybe a rogue student roaming the halls. It wasn't until he looked into the training room that he saw it was someone actually using the room he was supposed to meet in. For a moment he just watched her, getting a feel for the power and before he knew it, he could feel the numbing feeling that passed through him as his power began working. From his point of view it appeared like a mist, slowly surrounding the girl and he couldn't quite pull it back before it reached her, so he stood there, hiding as best as he could but still watching her.
