I'm Not Sleeping, psh... (OPEN)

Monroe didn't usually go to the mall, but it was bustling with people which made it the perfect place for a nap. He found that he had to sleep at the most random of times, in the most random of places to actually feel somewhat rested. Sleeping in his dorm was never easy, with roommates whose dreams he could easily enter. It wasn't just the fact that he didn't like entering the dreams of others, when he did, he didn't get the full rest he needed. He was always tired and today was no exception.

He'd pulled on a beanie over his messy brown hair and parts of it were sticking out of the hat, but he didn't really care at this point. His outfit was not his usual fashionable ensemble, but instead just a plain white t-shirt and a pair of jeans he'd picked up off of the floor of his dorm. However, his combat boots were still on his feet, laced fully. He wasn't complete without them.

He'd skateboarded to the mall and taken up a corner table at the Starbucks. He was here a lot, but usually for coffee to help him stay awake, not for a nap. His skateboard was under the table at his feet and he'd shut his eyes, drifting in and out of a sleep, still hearing the noises around him.

The best part about the mall was that it wasn't often that someone slept there so he didn't have to worry about entering anybody's dreams.

Sawyer had to drag her butt out of her dorm to do her personal shopping. It had to be the mall. It had to be a five minute driving distance that took ten minutes on foot. Like she didn't have anything better to do on a lazy afternoon. But no, things needed to be bought.

She was going to ask someone with a car to drive her into town but nobody seemed to be around. And the ones who were did not like her. For good reason. She was stupid annoying.

So she set off on her own, her wallet in her pocket while her headphones stuck over her head. It didn't take that long for her to actually finish shopping but by the time she was done, she was exhausted and needed to sit down.

Down she went to the nearest coffee shop that sold pretty good scones. If only they were cheap. But thankfully, she had a few scraps of money in her pocket that she could use to get that coffee of hers. She saw the corner booth was empty so she headed over there.

But it was just her luck that she found someone was already there. He was just very well hidden on account of he was sleeping and on account of she didn't actually see behind the tall ass pillar.

Great.

"Eh dude, this is an ironic scene, don't you think?" Sawyer voiced out, kicking the chair a little to wake the guy up. He looked vaguely familiar but she wasn't about to play a guessing game with herself.

Monroe kept his eyes shut, even if it wasn't the best sleep, at least it was some. He'd barely been asleep for twenty minutes when he heard a voice and it sounded close. She could have been talking to someone else, but he felt the kick at his chair and opened one eye to see the faint outline of a girl in the dim coffee shop lights.

Groggily, he opened the other eye and pulled down on his beanie which had shifted up in his random sleep. As he pieced together what she said in his sleepy state, he realized that it made sense and that it was indeed ironic and sort of funny because of that. "Yeah...well...I like ironic," he said with a shrug. He usually came here to get coffee instead of sleeping, but what else was he supposed to do? "And anyway, I'm sleeping here precisely because of the fact that everyone else is hyped up on coffee."

"Dick after my own heart." Sawyer sneered before realising she actually had to be nice to the guy so she could take the seat he was occupying. "I mean, that's nice. Irony is the best humour after all, ha ha ha." She laughed forcefully before raising an eyebrow at his next words.

"That doesn't even make any sense whatsoever, dude." She said, unaware of his abilities. "You would think you'd find a more...quiet place to sleep than a place where people are bound to be chatty. Example numero uno. Moi." She gestured to herself and looked down at the guy.

"Seriously though. Like...get a bench in the park or something."

Monroe raised an eyebrow at her immediate comment, not expecting something like that, although he should have figured that when the girl kicked his chair she wasn't exactly trying to be friendly. Someone didn't appreciate irony.

"It doesn't make sense to you, you mean," Monroe corrected her. She didn't need to tell him she was chatty for him to notice though. She was a different kind of chatty though, feisty and right away in his business. She didn't understand. A lot of people didn't and he really didn't feel the need to explain it to them.

That last part was the best of all she'd said. He chuckled a little at her. "Is that supposed to imply that you think I'm homeless? Oh man, do you ever have it wrong." Her feisty attitude was almost too much for him to take being as tired as he was.

"Uh duh, Captain Obvious." She looked down at him with a raised eyebrow before tucking her hair behind one ear. "Listen, bubba. I need the seat, all right?" She frowned lightly, holding up her plate of scones.

On being laughed at, she rolled her eyes. Some people just don't understand sarcasm. "Implied or not, you look the type. Beanie hung low over your eyes, sleeping at the mall...you fit the bill like a condom fits a banana." She shrugged before sighing and kicking out the chair opposite the guy.

"If you're not moving, I'm not gonna ask again. But you're gonna have to deal with my sassy mouth, capische?"

Captain Obvious? Bubba? This girl was certainly different. She needed the seat? Talk about blunt. This girl wasn't leaving anything for him to wonder about. He eyed the scones on her plate before she sat down on the chair across from him. "Good to know that. Guess I'll have to work on my look if it's not communicating the right message." Monroe tried his hardest to be fashionable. He liked a steam punk type look along with anything grungy. His combat boots always topped off his outfit and he wasn't a stranger to all kinds of hats-- he liked fedoras and beanies in particular.

His eyes swept over her as she wasted no time in warning him about her mouth, which he was already aware of from the short conversation so far. Slouching down further in the booth, he reached out his legs to put his heavy combat boot clad feet on the chair diagonal from him since she'd taken his foot rest.

There were no other tables open and he'd come all the way here to get a nap in. However, he wasn't sure if this girl would let him.

"You do that." Sawyer smiled a little sarcastically, as though she was actually interested in the outcome when she really wasn't.

Not noticing how he looked her over, Sawyer tore through her first scone like a bear. "Holy shit balls, I haven't had warm scones in forever." She moaned, savouring the pastry once it was in her mouth.

"Why're you so tired anyhow?"

Anyone else would probably either a-- lash out at her for how she was acting or b-- walk away after not wanting to deal with it. Monroe could just really tolerate people and even he had to admit that the way she talked was slightly amusing, even if it was sort of vulgar. He'd watched as she tore apart her scone like a cavewoman, raising an eyebrow at her as she did so. "I've never had a scone," he said with a shrug, as she seemed to be practically dying over the taste.

"I don't sleep well," he explained simply, not really wanting to go into detail.

And if they did lash out at her, Sawyer was pretty sure her comebacks, however putridly juvenile or lame, were going to make them wish they'd just run away.

The boy's admission to never having a scone made Sawyer dramatically drop hers on to the plate. "A travesty!" She exclaimed before picking it up again and shoving it in her mouth. "Sucks to be you though." She said, crumbs flying everywhere from her mouth.

"Too many wet dreams, I gather?"

Monroe chuckled when she dropped the scone to her plate only to pick it up again and shove it in her mouth in the least lady-like manner. "I suppose it's a travesty, but I like donuts anyway." The cafe in downtown had the best donuts and now he was craving some just from the thought, but he was also craving sleep, which he wasn't sure he was going to come by now.

"More like other peoples' wet dreams," he corrected her. "I never really have my own dreams anymore." Which was true. Even when he did sleep with nobody else around him, he didn't dream or he didn't remember. And when he pulled out of someone's dream, he usually fell into another and who knew if he wasted his energy on getting out of the right dream if he got stuck in a worse one. He had the proper training at Hammel to know how to pull out of dreams, but he was still trying to learn how to put up a block (not to mention it was exhausting).

Scrunching her nose up at the boy's mention of donuts, she shrugged and continued with her chewing. "More for me." She grinned through her chewing.

Tilting her head to the side, she pondered over his answer and snorted. "You're damaged you know that?" She said through chuckles. "Pretty rad." Nodding in approval, Sawyer hiked up her booted feet on the boy's seat.

But the weirdness of his statement finally got to her and she narrowed her eyes in wariness. "Wait, are you trying to tell me that you're a dream maker?"

Damaged. Of course he was damaged. Who wouldn't be after being apart of someone else's sex dream? It was scarring to say the least. Monroe knew that it was only human, but he really didn't want to be a part of those dreams--if he could help it. "Rad? Not sure that's the right word to describe it. One time the person who was dreaming asked me to join in, but I'm not really one for a threesome," he joked with a lopsided smile.

He looked down at her feet which were on his seat now and nodded in approval. "Combat boots. I'm sort of tempted to forgive you for your rude greeting just because of your choice of shoes." Which was true.

"Not dream maker. Dream walker," he corrected her. "I fall asleep near people who are dreaming and BAM...hello, I'm in their dream."

"Ah you mean not the right word you would use to describe it." Sawyer teased, using the boy's earlier words against him. What could she say, she was annoying that way. "Dude, never turn down a threesome! It's like stopping a girl fight! You just don't do it." The voice mimic shook her head in mock disappointment.

Chuckling, she knocked her boots against each other and shrugged. "Give in to it dude. It's always the best thing to do, giving into your temptations. You've seen Yes Man, haven't you? That Jim Carrey movie? Good things come to those who say yes. And you, you should say yes to forgiving me." She nodded, biting into her scone, still enjoying it immensely.

"Ugh, same banana." She replied ignorantly, waving a dismissive hand at being corrected. "Dude, that's some serious shit, man. You could totally fuck a dude's mind right there." Sawyer pointed out, a manic grin appearing on her face.

"Using my own words against me? Crafty," Monroe said, managing a smirk. He shook his head at what she said next. Man, this girl just didn't have a filter to purify her words. "Guess I'm just no fun." He shrugged.

"And okay, saying yes can be a good thing...but didn't that movie end up going totally wrong in the middle of it? Or am I not remembering it correctly?" He'd watched it such a long time ago with an old friend who he didn't even keep in contact with anymore since coming to Pilot Ridge. "And while I shall forgive you, I'm not saying yes to a threesome whether Jim Carrey thinks I should or not."

It was 'some serious shit,' as she put it. "Most people just get pissed if I'm in their dreams in general. I don't wanna know what would happen if I could manipulate them."
