No. Dantew as not trying to follow what Charlie was saying. Her words were too fast, and her thoughts too circular. Dante was trying to remind himself that stuff was real, and that was hard. Quietly he reached out and touched the wall they were standing next to.
He looked at it. Studied it, until the texture started moving too much and he had to stop. His thoughts were reeling. Spinning around wordlessly inside his head. Everything and nothing. Everything was nothing. And nothing was everything. The two were simultaneous.. And impossible at the same time. Like an imovable object and an unstopable force. Those were absolutes and could not possibly exist at the same time. If something was immovable, then it could stop anything. If something was unstoppable, it could move anything. If everything existed, then... then... then there couldn't possibly be nothing.
Ugh. Dante didn't even know what he was thinking about anymore. Slowly, he pulled the pack of cigarettes from his pocket and placed one between his lips. He had to stop thinking. Had to stop spiraling. Everything looked strange and alien to him, and he didn't like it. He turned toward the wall to light his cigarette, and took a long drag.
Dante looked toward the sky and exhaled slowly, watching the smoke rise. "Hey guys," he said, his voice distant. Dante reached out to touch Wren's arm, and pulled gently as he stepped away. "Behind." He meant that he was going behind the building. He couldn't remember the exact reason he did that, but for some reason smoking out front made him feel weird.
