Asher was careful to step around the people on the floor making out. “Could someone…?” she trailed off, pointing down to the couple. The bar was full and pulsating with sound and dim lighting. That made it hard to see where she was going, but she had a general idea of where everything was, just not everyone. She was pushed right into a wall, catching herself with her hands, legs starting to slide out from underneath her. Why do I have to be so clumsy? she helplessly thought as she pushed her way to the bar. Finally, she found a bar stool that wasn’t holding someone’s purse or jacket or being reserved for someone else. “Drink please!” she yelled to the bartender.
What a day! Her job wasn’t going well and she was afraid that she might have to find a new one soon. People were giving her strange looks about the way her hair was styled and it was the third warning from her boss. Nayeli pushed her to do her homework that night. She hadn’t even gotten started on the second chapter for her novel and things were just out of control. Asher shook her head dismally as she took a sip of the not strong enough beer. The bar was too crowded and the bar tenders were too overwhelmed to get her a drink she liked without her feeling guilty about it. She paid for her drink by leaving five dollars on the counter and turning around to stare into the dancing crowd. It was unusually to have a dancing crowd in the bar, but this was the first time she had been to a bar. Maybe this was a club, a very dim lit club.
Asher turned towards a cute man on her left and said hi. He too was turned off by the way she had her hair up and turned around to talk to a normal looking blonde on his other side. Downing the rest of her beer, she stepped out into the crowd, hoping to lose herself in the music and dancing bodies. What she didn’t expect was to trip and fall. She fell at the feet of someone, knocking them down as well. “I’m so sorry!” she said, struggling to her feet in heels.
