Karashi was done with it all. She had only been in classes for three days and already she was hating it. Kids made fun of her for knowing every answer, for being a ‘teacher’s pet’ as they put it. She was merely following her normal traditions. Was it her fault for being a straight A student? She always hated herself for it. For once, she wanted to be normal. She smiled to herself, almost laughing out loud. Normal. If she was ‘normal’, she wouldn’t even be in this stupid school in the first place. Kara sighed.
Tears formed in Kara’s eyes. She tried to fight them, but they came on too fast, and she let them fall. At this point, she didn’t care who saw her. The worst someone could do was yell at her for being weak, and it would definitely be true. She was weak. Her ‘talent’ (her parents had taught her that the word ‘power’ was a bad word and that she would get punished should she say it) was so bad that she didn’t even think it was worthy to be called a ‘talent’. Kara continued to cry harder.
Kara wasn’t looking to get sympathy. She just wanted someone who would be her friend. She hated feeling alone, as if no one understood her. That was an understatement. Even though that was her ‘talent’, she hadn’t had enough training, so when she spoke to others in their own language, it was broken and hard to understand. At this point, she had just given up. She wanted to go home, but figured that she would be dishonoring the family. So, Karashi decided that she would stick it out until the week was over. There were still two days left so there was still hope.
