A little bell jingled as Mina set foot in the music store. Somehow, she had forced herself out of her dorm and into the wide world, and now she was going to look at music and CDs for the afternoon. She had been to the Quarter Note in the past, and the owner trusted her quite well. She wanted to learn to play an instrument, (she knew drums and guitar pretty well, from teaching herself and from general guidance on her occasional visits to the store) but in all honesty, she had been wanting to learn a classical, orchestral instrument, one that you had a goal with, took grades for, and when you told people that you played it, they would look at you in awe. She had known for a while, over a year, that she wanted to learn to play this instrument, and she liked to test each one that was there when she went. The store owner had given her some general tips on how to play the instrument, and Mina had been saving up. Her mum had given her Christmas money early and she had her other savings from work, so it was time.
Mina was going to buy a violin.
She had thought about it all throughly, and had talked to her mum about it. They, together, had found a good violinist to teach Mina at a decent rate. She would practice in the auditorium or the music rooms, if they were empty, and she could take the instrument to her house in Pilot Ridge if she wanted to practice outside of school. She wouldn't be disturbing anyone, her younger sister, Kathryn, lived at Hammel anyway, seeing as she was a Meta too, and her mum was working very long hours to make sure she had the money to support the family. She respected her in that sense.
Mina walked upstairs and grabbed the case of the violin she had been practicing on, along with extra strings, a violin stand, a music stand and a beginner's book on playing the violin and some other simple pieces of music, which the tutor had recommended that she bought after contacting him. She brought them all back down to the front counter and placed them at the till, putting down the money to pay for it all and waiting patiently and silently, looking around the shop as the cashier tablulated all of the costs. There was a small number of other customers lurking around, looking at the instruments, scanning through the CDs and so forth.
She wasn't showing it, but Mina felt like she couldn't contain her excitement. She was starting something. And this time, she was gonna stick to it.
