((Are you alright with back-dating this to about a week or so ago, so they're actually shopping for outfits for the holiday party? I figure that could be interesting, since they'll have the upcoming party to talk about. Let me know if you want me to change it, though.))
Melody loved the mall. It was always a hub of activity in the small city, which meant that there was great people-watching to be done and plenty of friends to bump into as she did her shopping. Shopping was, of course, the young woman's favorite pastime. She loved every part of it: sorting through the racks, picking some things out on instinct alone, trying them on, checking herself out in the mirror, making reckless financial decisions... Really, the only thing she didn't like about the mall was the constant temptation that was Cinnabon, which she was usually able to resist. Usually, not always.
While she loved browsing, though, today she was a woman on a mission: to find a dress to wear at the annual holiday bash the following weekend. She was sure many of her friends and coworkers would be there, so she wanted to look her best. Dress to impress, as they say. She was confident that she would find something, but she wasn't entirely sure what she was looking for just yet. She'd know it when she found it.
Melody was fine shopping alone, but she loved shopping with friends. Then, she could play the part not only of the model, but also of the judge, providing words of approval or dissent as her friends tried on their own outfits. She liked to make a whole day of it, taking their time working their way through the mall until they found a couple of perfect new pieces.
The blonde teacher arrived at Nordstrom, taking a few steps into the store and skimming briefly over the front-most racks. She'd wait until her friend, Faye, had arrived to do the real shopping, but she could hardly wait to get started.
