[Roger Vandelay]

Roger was having a grand old time reading the messages his friends (in the most liberal sense of the word) had written in his yearbook. Some of them were nice (thank you, Callie), and some of them were lewd (thank you, Sawyer), but all of them were about him, which was what made it so fun for him. He got a kick out of seeing how people perceived him. Clearly Jack didn't like him, but then again he had no reason to. He and Lucy were friends but kind of egged one another on, so her message was appropriately snarky.

And then there was this: a phone number, with no name attached. He'd scanned through his phone contacts and found that it didn't match any of the numbers he already had. The handwriting also didn't match that of anyone who'd already signed. It could still be Lucy playing a trick on him with her little power of ink manipulation, but he really had no idea who it could possibly be. Only one way to find out...

He typed the number into his phone, double-checking that he'd put it in properly before hitting send and holding the phone up to his ear. He figured this was somewhat exciting, but also somewhat obnoxious. Couldn't whoever this was have just put their name with it? That way he could do some Facebook stalking and figure out ahead of time whether they were attractive enough to be worth the trouble.

Then again, it could also just be a totally random number and lead to a busy signal. In which case Lucy was first on his shitlist.

Admittedly, Carter had doled his number out to a variety of yearbooks. Primarily it went to those belonging to people he didn't know. Or hadn't met yet. Or hadn't connected with in a long time.

So when he got a phone call, he wasn't surprised. He just had to know how to handle it.

After a moment or so, Carter idly dragged the phone into view and stared at it. An unknown number, of course. It barely took him a second to weigh his options and make a decision. He answered, and brought the phone to his ear.

"Hello?" Carter greeted, his voice naturally low.

Okay, so it was a man. That was a good start. He still had no idea who this was, but it ruled out any of his friends since most of them were girls. Of course, one of them could have given him a random guy's number with the intention of igniting some comedic misunderstanding; he still was, up to this point, fairly convinced that this was Lucy's doing. Who else would write a random phone number in someone's yearbook?

"Uh, hi..." he started, suddenly unsure of himself. What on earth was he supposed to say in this situation? The guy's voice was deep and kind of manly, which made him feel somewhat insecure about his own. "Who is this? I mean, I know I called you, but... who is this?" Roger was usually fairly more confident than this, but he was really at a loss without any idea as to who this could be. "Your phone number was in my yearbook." Might as well start with an explanation, no? That way, if this guy had no idea who he was, at least they could chalk it up to a prank right away and leave it at that. "I'm Roger."

"Hi." Carter repeated. It was easy to pick up the unsure demeanour of the person across the phone from him, but he tried not to think about it too much. Dwelling on that was irrelevant.

He appreciated that this person - a man, or boy, as it seemed - was interested in getting right to the point of things. He suppressed the laugh that threatened to break his deameanour. But really, this was amusing.

His phone number was in a lot of yearbooks, so that didn't really narrow it down. But again, he'd keep that to himself.

"Dominique," Carter introduced, proceeding with the closest false name he could get away with, "Chevalier. It's a pleasure to be worthy of a phone call."
