A low hum of contentment left Kieron's lips as Maebelle fussed with the hair at the nape of his neck, a smile curling his lips as the sensation sent soft shivers down his spine. The discharge of all the tension from earlier was a blessed relief, and Kieron's posture relaxed as he allowed his fingertips to slowly dance along Mae's waistline through the thin fabric of her nightgown. He could never have imagined any way this evening could have been made any better. He had come over without a single clue what to expect. He certainly would never have put any money on it being anything quite so perfect as this.
Maebelle's admission of what her dinner was created from caused a momentary look of regret to cross Kieron's face. Of course there was no way he could have known, and even if he did there was no way he could have made it back, but the knowledge that she had put in so much effort and it had gone to waste was a very saddening one. However, the chuckle that left her lips combined with the warm feeling rising in his chest knowing that she really had gone to that effort for him stopped him from dwelling on it, and he gently returned the kiss that Maebelle claimed. “Well, it smells wonderful. I'm sorry I missed it.”
Then Maebelle went ahead and said that she counted Kieron as her Christmas gift. Oh boy... The Irishman's cheeks flushed scarlet, his eyes widening momentarily and his lips moved soundlessly. His heart thundered in his chest and it suddenly felt very, very warm in that cosy little kitchen. “Hooooo...” Kieron took three attempts to be able to find words willing to force their way past his lips, having to pause for a moment to try to regather himself before trying again.
Kieron attempted to put a hint of humorous bravado in his voice as he spoke, but combined with his flustered joy it came out as a quiet, shy mumbling. “You might wish to see what it is first; it might not be worthy of another kiss.” Very reluctantly Kieron forced his right hand away from its perch on Maebelle's hip, reaching back to pick up the fairly large present and hold it out for Maebelle. “I hope you like it... It's so you never have to be in the dark again.”
