[Dakota Hyde]

Dakota walked into his office of Jekyll and Hyde corporations, yeah his parent’s had given him his own office, he did work there; he got paid and everything. Even though he was getting paid for being part time, it was still something. At least he was working for his money, using his own personal experience and assets. He wasn’t relying on mommy and daddy to buy his way through everything. He worked here because he was good at what he did. He wasn’t a spoiled brat, okay he was spoiled, but he was far from being a brat.





As of this moment, he was working on setting up an interview that a townie had called in for. The position she asked to be interview for wasn’t usually an interview but an audition. However, Dakota was kind of desperate, and he was never going to turn down someone who was looking for a job. That was also what his parents said, no matter how little professional experience someone had didn’t matter to them, it was how well they could do the job at hand, and how much experience the person had in general. This certain girl said she was a college student, and majored in music. Usually they would make their own music by computer generating it, but the company was always up for change. Change was good, it was always welcomed.

It had reached Kiara’s ears that the gaming company in town, Jekyll and Hyde Corporations, were looking for someone who could provide music for their new creations. At first it had simply sparked her interest, but given she was already juggling two jobs (one of the Churchkey and another at The House) it didn’t occur to her to show interest. Then, however, La Maison Magnifique shut down and Ki was left with quite some free time on her hands. When she checked, she position was still open, so the blonde gathered the courage to dial the number that was included. An appointment was set up and it would be taking place today.

Of course the young woman had been nervous all day. It was the first time a decent job interview took place and she had no idea how she would deal with it if they were to turn her down. The person at the phone had sounded nice enough, but that did not keep her from stressing. In an attempt to distract herself she spent most of the day trying to pick an outfit. Something not too casual… so of course she settled for a dress. Given it was not the season to go out without a pantyhose, those got put on as well, along with some boots. And then she was ready and heading over to Jekyll and Hyde. She actually arrived on time (five minutes too early) and was send up to the right location by the woman at the entrance desk. Once she reached the right office, a knock on the door was given.

There were always opened positions at the company, mostly because a lot of the workers were teenagers wanting some sort of experience in the field, or just wanted a job, while they were still in school; then they went off to college in another state, or even country. Which was all fine, Dakota didn’t care, nor did his parents, they really didn’t look at how much someone had in experience, but how good they were when it came to the job at hand, and how much they could work with others. His parents, and even him always gave people a chance. It was something Kota planned to keep doing even when he was the CEO of the company.

If there was anything he had to admit, it was that he was also nervous, it wasn’t that he wasn’t a people person. He certainly was, but went it came to auditions, or interviews he always got nervous. Mostly because he knew if he made a wrong choice, it would affect the company deeply. So it wasn’t just auditions, or interviews, it was any choice he had to make when it came to his parents company. His parents worked so hard to get this company off the ground; he didn’t want to screw it up. He sighed and rubbed his temples as he sat in his chair behind his desk. He didn’t really know why his parents built him his own office, but they had, so he used it. It was a great place for him to get away from everything else. “Come in.” He said with his deep voice. He wiped his sweaty palms on his jeans, having sweaty palms was no business like.

The second Kiara heard a voice at the other side of the door, granting her permission to enter, she slowly opened it and kind of peeked her head inside before the rest of her body showed. “Um, hi. I mean, good afternoon.” Swiftly the blonde took a step in and then closed the door behind her. The second she turned around and had blue eyes land on the guy, Ki had no idea how to behave or what to say. Based on his voice over the phone, the girl had expected to be meeting an older man. She was not sure why, but this surprise kind of intimidated her since it completely went against how she had been imagining things in her head. While it felt like an eternity, it only took a second or two before she got herself to snap out of it and to quickly step forward to the desk.

Standing between the two seats located on her side of the piece of furniture, a hand reached out towards Dakota. “I’m Kiara. Kiara Lilien.” She was not sure if it would be rude to sit down before being told that she could, but at the same time it felt weird to just be standing there after her hand got retrieved. Luckily Dakota soon after gestured for her to take a seat. Hands smoothed over the backside of the dress’ skirt as she took a seat, only for both to rest upon her lap after that. “I, um, think we spoke over the phone?”

Dakota looked at the woman who had walked into his office. He had expected to see someone a little older and maybe a bit more geekier, appearance wise anyways. He nodded to her, “Good afternoon.” He could tell that she was shy; he wasn’t sure what to make of that. Would she really be okay working in a business setting? One thing about working in a business is that one person could easily be pushed around and taken advantage of. If you were shy, then you were going to be that person, you couldn’t be a push over. Especially since almost everyone tried to compete against each other, for whatever reason that was, Dakota never really understood that part. “Welcome to Jekyll and Hyde corporations. I hope you had found the building all right.” He tried to act as professional as he could.

Dakota stood up to shake Kiara’s hand, as he stood up her whipped his right hand on his jeans. Nervous sweat, it was bit uncomfortable. “Dakota Hyde” He would guess that she could figure out a few assumptions to who he most likely was. He gestured toward one of the seat in front of him. Nodding to her question, “We did, and as I understand from the phone call you want to apply for our music ad. I would like to ask you some questions, to see if you’re qualified for the job position. I’m also wondering if you have resume on you?” A resume would help him figure the girl out, and maybe answer some of his questions without having to ask them. “Before I ask you my questions, do you have any questions about the job?” He would much rather save his breath if the girl decided to walk out because this wasn’t the job she thought it was. He figured it would be better for her to ask a few questions first.

Kiara could have dressed up geekier, knowing it would aid the first impression given the job belonged in the gaming world, but at the same time she knew it was best to not portray yourself any different than reality. Being herself, however, also appeared to subconsciously backfire some as Dakota judged her to be rather shy. Sure, that was quite the case, but at the moment it should mainly be blamed on her nervousness. Sweaty hands didn’t give it away for her; she just was timid and reluctant to speak unless given permission or a question got asked. With the pleasantry out of the way, Ki did relax some though. Fingers could now fumble with the hem of the skirt, except during the brief interruption when the young man asked for a resume. Kiara was quick to nod in response. “Oh, um, I do.” And then she tugged it from her purse, handing it over to him.

Of course the blonde had no experience when it came to the amusement industry. All that came remotely close was the fact that she was studying Music. Other than that, the girl had worked at The House as singer and waitress for a bit, and she still helped in the kitchen at The Churchkey. Those had aided her social skills and surely it could also be read as her not being one who could be pushed around as easily as Dakota first assumed. “I didn’t really have any questions though, except for maybe a more detailed description of the job?” Ki wasn’t sure what style they were looking for, nor any other random details like that. It probably didn’t matter too much though. It was just some general curiosity.

“You can ask the questions that you have if you want.” Ki was ready when he was.

Kiara was right, Dakota would much rather people come in dressed as themselves instead of trying to impress him by faking it. The people that came here dressed up like they were professional business people rarely got hired. Mostly because it ended up being that those people did not know what they were doing in the gaming industry. As for her shyness, Kota was alright with it, she could be as shy as she wanted around him, but what mattered was what she could actually do to help the company.

Kota took the resume from Kiara, “thank you.” Then went through it, it did seem like she didn’t really have experience in anything gaming. But that didn’t matter with what job position she wanted. Dakota placed her resume down on the desk in front of him. “Well, all we are really looking for is someone who can make music for our games, like the songs that you hear in the title screen or in the game. As for what type of music, that all depends on the game; It also depends on what type of music you can make. We are trying to get into the more purer form of music, instead of computer generating the music we want more of music that is made from actually playing the instruments.” He hoped he explained it well enough for her to understand what they expected.

“I don’t have a whole lot of questions. It says you are majoring in music. For work proposes I would like to know what type of instruments you can play, and how far in this major you are. And If you can compose entire songs yourself.”

Kiara could do that. She could make music as long as they gave her details on what was requested. While Dakota spoke, nods were given to indicate attention was being paid, not wanting him to get the idea that his explanation bore her. It actually sounded quite interesting, especially since it did sound like something she and Everett could bond over. She probably should not reason like that at a job interview, but yeah… Work and family were the most important things in her life right now. Combining them could make things easier.

“I can play the guitar and piano.” The young woman responded the second it was her turn to talk. “And this is my first year in the major. I’ve been playing those instruments ever since I was a little girl though, and I can compose entire songs.” Kiara hoped that didn’t make it sound too good to be true. Perhaps Dakota might not believe it. Either way, fi he did, she hoped those two instruments would do for now. “I’m quite good at learning to play new instruments if necessary.” A timid smile graced her lips as Ki now pondered on something else to say.

“I am flexible when it comes to working hours.” Perhaps that was important, right? She wasn’t sure what else to add though. Kiara didn’t want it to sound as if she were desperately selling herself. The job would be great though… She hoped she at least had a chance.
