Bishop Bash: So This Is Our Bedroom (Rain)

The twins grinned, looking at each other to be sure to remember what handsome looked like. It was worth remembering if it would create more compliments from Rain "Thanks," "Thanks," they said, obviously pleased that they had impressed her.

The living room was quickly becoming a traffic jam. After a quick look between the brothers, John grabbed the cookies. "I'll stick in these in the kitchen then," he offered before dodging between the family and guest towards the kitchen.

Jake stood inside the foyer with Rain waiting. Even though it only took John a few seconds to complete the trip, he felt awkward without his brother there too. Like an important piece of the puzzle was missing. He blushed and giggled nervously, wishing he had something cool to say to Rain. He had a brief moment to wonder if this would be what the rest of his life was like, but the thought passed quickly when John returned.

The cookies taken care off, the brothers led the way to their room. Jake stuck his head in the door a moment before Rain entered, doing a last minute spot check for trash or heaven forbid dirty underwear lying around.

"So this is our room," John said as the entered. There were two twin beds that could stack together into bunk beds although they were separated at the moment. The walls were adorned with posters of extreme sports professionals, along with a board covered in pictures of family, friends, and a few of themselves from over the year hanging in a space above the desk built for two.

"Have a seat wherever," Jake added, gesturing to the two chairs as well as the beds.

The only thing with that one was, Rain always thought they looked handsome; they really didn’t have to do much to impress her. Mostly because they were already so perfect before they dressed up and got fancy. Rain nodded to John, it was nice of him to put the cookies in the kitchen for her; she still hoped it was enough for all of the guest. She looked around the living room, her shy side obviously kicking in, because she could feel herself slipping into a mental shell that wanted nothing to do with these people outside the twins. This was all way too overwhelming for her.

Rain felt the awkwardness between her and Jake, and was sad about that, why was it awkward between them? She didn’t ever feel this awkward between her and John… It made her cautious, maybe she would have to spend more one on one time with Jake. Would that offend John though? “Er… It’s nice that your family does this every Christmas…” She said to Jake “Did you guys ask anyone else over?” she added, because she didn’t want to steal all of their attention if they had other company. However there wasn’t much room for them to have a conversation because soon John came back, and she couldn’t help but sigh, because she was hoping to at least have a conversation with him before his brother came back. But maybe that would have been too good to be true. Though she really hoped this wasn’t going to be Jake’s and hers relationship forever, it would make her too sad.


Feeling less overwhelmed by being up stairs, away from everyone and in the twins room; she was starting to feel better about coming. She would have loved to see their room without all the clean up, just because she would have liked to see how they naturally were, even if that meant it was really dirty. “It’s a beautiful room.” It seemed a little cramped, but she wasn’t going to say that. Rain looked at all the places she could sit, she thought about sitting on one of the beds, which would mean she would have to pick which boy’s bed to sit on. Meaning that wouldn’t do because she didn’t want to ever chose between them with anything. In other words that made her look toward the chairs, but there was two of those two, which meant one was for John, and the other was for Jake; which meant she still had to chose. So what did she do now? Well the only thing she could think of. She sat in the middle of floor of the room; with her legs crossed, and everything placed in her lap. She looked up at the twins and grinned, hoping they would join her on the floor.

Really the twins didn't think that Rain had to do much to impress them either. They had a feeling she was beautiful when she first woke up in the morning. But that was a thought they were going to keep to themselves for the moment.

Jake was indeed awkward on his own. But not because of Rain. He was pretty much awkward whenever John wasn't in view these days. John seemed to do better with it. While they both felt the need to stay close, John had always been the more extroverted of the two and was better at dealing with his twin not being in constant contact. Still Jake felt horrible that he couldn't even feel comfortable with Rain without his brother there. But he would dwell on that later...or just avoid it happening again as much as possible. "Uh...yeah...we like people over," Jake answered. "Ah...no..just you."

Yeah that was awful. He'd have to ask John what to do next time.

The brothers were used to being in a house full of people, so it wasn't so much that they felt overwhelmed and need to go upstairs. They just wanted Rain to their own. As much as they loved their siblings, even their siblings friends, being in a huge group made it hard to have a conversation. Plus they wanted to avoid any teasing about Rain.

"Thanks," "Thanks," the brothers said in unison. And while their room never got too horribly messy, they were glad that it looked presentable. They would have died if Rain had seen a pair of dirty underwear or something on the floor.

Not missing a beat, the brothers plopped down on the floor beside her. They were each content to be comfortable wherever she was. "So how was your Christmas so far?" John asked, smiling.

A moment later they each realized something was missing. "Oh wait!" Your presents!" They both jumped to their feet, but this time it was Jake who offered to run and get them.

"He'll be right back," John assured Rain as his brother raced off to get them.

Rain didn’t think she was beautiful when she first woke up; then again who doesn’t? She usually had really bad bed hair, and her breath probably smelled really bad. However, she was sure the twins looked perfect when they first woke up, and they probably looked like angels when they are sleeping.

It made Rain sad that she felt so awkward around Jake, especially since it didn’t seem so awkward with John around. Was it her? Did Jake not like her? She really wasn’t sure since she never had alone time with him. She liked her lips in nervousness, the more she thought about it the more Jake not liking her made sense… “Oh.. okay.” That was her response to both answers. She was glad that they hadn’t invited anyone else over, but she wasn’t sure why either.


Rain grinned at both of them as they sat down next to her on the floor. She hoped they didn’t think she was weird by sitting on the floor. “My Christmas was good. I spent most of the morning making those cookies..” She didn’t want to make them last night because then they wouldn’t have been fresh. She loved baking anyways, so it really wasn’t a big deal. “Present? For me?” She really wasn’t expecting a present; she looked at John when Jake left, “You didn’t have to get me anything.”


Rain looked at the floor as they waited for Jake to come back. She wondered if she should ask John about her thoughts on Jake not liking her. She opened her mouth to say something, but it felt to weird to ask, so she closed her mouth, and didn’t say a thing. They were gestalts, right? One person in two bodies… So would that have meant that if Jake didn’t like her, John didn’t like her either?

If either twin had an inkling of the awkwardness Rain was feeling, they might have dragged her back into the living room. Not because they didn't want to spend some time with her alone, but because they would have hoped that by surrounding her with a ton of other people that she would feel less awkward. And also they could have bombed their siblings will a million questions about girls and relationship while she was distracted.

Admittedly, they each felt a little awkward themselves. John because he wanted everything with Rain to go perfect so she would like them. And Jake because well...he felt awkward around pretty much anybody without his brother by his side. The two feelings were trying to merge in the twins giving them making them both a little anxious without either of them really being able to put their finger on why.

"Of course we got presents for you," John said when his brother had run off to fetch them. He smiled at Rain, a little giddy with the combined excitement of having her in his room, having presents to give her, and it being Christmas while still trying to figure out why he was so nervous.

Jake returned carrying two wrapped presents and two potted plants. He set them all down in front of Rain, beaming along with his brother.

"The lady at the store said these are great indoor plants for the winter,"John explained.

"Yeah um...Kalanchoe and Streptocarpus," Jake added, pausing to read the labels on the pots.

"And we made these ourselves." "And we made these ourselves." they said, each handing her one of the wrapped boxes. The act of giving her gifts and the fact that they were together again brought a huge smile to both of their faces as they waited for her to open them, hoping she would like what she found.

"Oh! And this..." John said, grabbing a brown bag off of his desk. "Is for your bunny."

"We made that too!

They continued to grin at the beautiful girl surrounded by presents, wishing they could save the moment. But also eagerly waiting for her reaction.

Rain would have been more awkward down stairs in the living room. Being in their room was fine, it was just a little overwhelming at the moment for her. She really hoped it wasn’t going to feel this uncomfortable all the time. However, she was more afraid of the twin’s siblings then their room. She really didn’t want to meet all of them at once.

Looking at the ground, she bit the bottom of her lip, her cheeks flushing. “Uh… I got you two something too.” It wasn’t like she was going to come over empty handed; especially since their family was going to feed her. It wouldn’t have been polite not to get them something when they had invited her in the first place. Which is also why she made all the cookies, she was still worried about there not being enough.

As Jake came back in with the plants and some wrapped gifts, her eyes widened, and she placed a hand over her mouth. She was very surprised, she hadn’t guessed that they would each give her two presents. Here she was with only one present for each of them. She felt really bad, especially since it was their birthday too. She should have brought them something else instead of just cupcakes. (even if she had made them to perfection by her standards. ) “oh wow..” She looked down at her lap, a bit overwhelmed by not having as many presents to give out. “Their beautiful, thank you so much. I love them.” She saw that some of them haven’t bloomed yet, so she waved to hand over it, making the buds bloom; it put a smile on her face. She could feel how happy the plants were. “They have been taken very good care of.” She whispered, she knew by how happy they were.

She looked at the wrapped boxes, but before she even touched them she held out the Tupperware carefully. Bowing her head, so they couldn’t see her blush, “Here I made you these for your birthday. I hope you like them.” They were chocolate cupcakes, with actual whipped cream as a topping instead of icing; with maraschino cherries on top of it. Once they took the cupcakes, she placed the bags infront of them; The red one in front of John, and the blue one in front of Jake. “Er well I made all of it.. So I hope you really like them.”


“Oh How nice! I’m sure he will love it.” Even though she hadn’t opened it. “I would have made your pet something, but I don’t even know if you guys have a pet.” She looked down at her unopened presents. “Should we open them at the same time?”

The twins were feeling a little awkward, even here in their room. But it was awkwardness mixed with anxiety hoping everything they said to Rain was perfect and also pure amazement that she was actually sitting in their room with a smile on her face. They had no clue how they'd gotten so lucky to have a beautiful awesome girl like Rain over for their Christmas party.

"Wow!" "Wow!" the twins shouted in unison as Rain opened the bloom. Although they knew about Rain's ability it was the first time they had seen it in action.

"Well...we tried our best. At least we did better than-" John stopped suddenly, looking to his brother for help. He'd almost let the dreaded cactus incident slip out.

"Better than...any present we got for our siblings." Jake finished, hoping the sentence made sense.

Really, the twins hadn't even considered the possibility that Rain would be bringing them presents. Sure they were excited about Christmas and the presents they would receive from their family. But really they'd been to busy just thinking about Rain being here and being able to give her presents to reach the logical conclusion that she might have some of her own to give.

"Together!" "Together!" They agreed, beaming at Rain and the gifts the had laid in front of them.

"One!..." "Two!..." they counted looking to Rain for the final signal to tear into their gifts.

Rain smiled at the twins, they were so cute. It wasn’t something Rain could get over. “Aww That’s kind of sweet.” A little bit weird, but completely sweet. She had always tried her best getting her family gifts, and giving them things that was heartfelt. She liked giving gifts that had a lot of meaning and sweat behind it. “Just the thought behind the presents is amazing. Thank you.” She never got gifts from people outside of her family on Christmas; It wasn’t something that usually happened. Which was why this was so special to her.

Like the twins, Rain hadn’t expected to get presents from them either, heck she wasn’t even expecting them to invite her to their party. None of this was what she expected, but it was beyond what she hoped for. Because all of it made her heart feel warm and fuzzy. “Three!” She opened her gift, as the twins opened their gifts.

Gasping as she took her presents out of their wrappings, she felt like she was going to cry. There were no words she could say to explain how happy she was. “Aww, these are adorable!” She ran her fingers across each head of the rabbit cactuses. “I love them!”

The twins both grinned, and blushed a little, at Rain's comment. They hoped it would help her know how much they cared about her without have to actually say it. Because they were sure they would both ruin the moment tripping over each others words.

They tore into their gifts after a quick second to watch Rain's delight as she tore into her own.

"Pokemon!" "Pokemon!" the brothers shouted, laughing as they each saw the others gift.

"These are so great!" "Did you make them?

They both couldn't stop grinning. Seeing Rain enjoy her rabbits was just...perfect. It was true that they had both taken extra care to get her presents right. Though they had improve on the gifts they gave their siblings over the years, they had never given as much effort into them as they had Rain's. And seeing her holding them was making this out to be the best birthday/christmas ever.

"We love you too." "We love you too."

The twins about died when they realized what they had said. They had meant to say they loved the presents. After shooting a quick shocked and anxious look at each other, they waited for Rain to say something...anything.

Rain smiled, it did show how much they cared, it was amazing how much thought they put into these gifts. And she loved the fact that they put to things she loved (plants, and bunnies) into one gift, well two gifts if you count both the cactus bunnies.

“Those two pokemon makes me think of you guys. I don’t actually play the game, but I do watch the show!” She nodded, “I did, I started early because I knew I was going to have a lot of orders on my etsy..” Had she just plugged her own shop to the twins? The two people she really liked? Did that come off as bratty? “Sorry, I should have mentioned the etsy thing..” She smiled a little. She probably just made that a little more awkward than before.


Rain looked at the twins with wide eyes, did they just say they loved her? She blushed, like they really really liked her? Or loved her as a sister? Or as a friend? What did that really mean… She started playing with the hem of her dress as she looked down at her hands. “I… Um… Love you guys too…” but a thought entered her mind, didn’t Jake not like her? Was he lying? Was he saying she loved him just because John had? Was it only John who felt that way and Jake just felt it because they were gestalts? She gulped, she kind of had to know… “But… I thought you didn’t even like me…” She looked at Jake, just Jake, not John, to show who she was talking to.

This was really turning out to be the best chrismas/birthday ever. And maybe date as well. Though neither of the twins were sure whether or not it qualified. They'd have to ask one of their brothers later.

"We used to love the game." John said, making his Pokemon walk around on the floor a bit. These days the twins were less in to video games mostly because they couldn't stand to sit still that long. And anything two player ended in a wrestling match between them.

"And the show's still cool." Jake added, not wanted Rain to think that if they'd outgrown the video games they'd outgrown Pokemon completely.

It seemed like forever before Rain said anything. And the boys were sure they'd die of a heart attack if she freaked out or something. This was not how they had planned to tell her. Heck, they were still awkward when they told her she was pretty.

The hesitation in her voice was not exactly what they'd been hoping to hear. The twins both swallowed, wishing they could erase the last minute and go back to the giggles and smiles. And then Rain turned to Jake.

"What?" Jake asked Rain. "What?" John asked Jake at the same time as he turned to stare down his twin.

"What made you...I mean why would you...I do..." Jake stumbled for how to explain himself. He could feel the anger in John. Just as John could feel the anxiety in him. And it was making both of them feel a bit sick in their stomachs. He looked to John for help.

"He likes you. We both like you." John said, hoping they hadn't just screwed this all up. "It's just...he's weird." 

"Right," Jake said, nodding along as if that would be enough to make Rain understand.

Rain rubbed her neck, maybe she shouldn’t have said that… That just made everything awkward… She hoped she hadn’t ruined anything between them, but it sure felt like she had… Rain also hadn’t meant to be hesitant in her reply, she was just so unsure of things… Things being how Jake felt about her.. But she was obviously wrong with that.

Shaking her head, she looked back down at her hands. At that moment she wanted to ruin back to Hammel and cry under her sheets. She felt like such an awful person for thinking so negatively, and wrongly. “I… I’m sorry.” She shook her head again, then gave a small half smile, “I should have never said anything..” She looked at her gifts, they had invited her to their home, and gave her such amazing gifts, how could she ever think that either of them didn’t like her? And how selfish was that? That she had only thought about them not liking her. “I’m sorry, I was being pretty selfish..”

She wasn’t sure what else to say… Or if she should say anything else. She didn’t even know how to fully explain herself. “Maybe I should go…” Of course she would need to call a cab but she didn’t mind waiting outside for it to arrive..

The brothers were going from staring at each other to giving Rain anxious glances. There was a pit goring in Jake’s stomach as the guilt hit home. And John could feel it as well, even the guilt, though his was tinted with more worry than guilt.

”No.” ”No.” the twins said, each one awkwardly reaching out for her hand and changing their mind, worried they would only make this worse. Of course they knew this would happen. Just when they finally find a girl; a beautiful, cool, wonderful girl; their stupid twin thing had to go and ruin everything.

Jake hung his head, but John couldn’t hold his feeling inside. ”It’s this stupid twin thing, isn’t it?” he said, unable to hid the disgust at himself, at themselves, in his voice.

Because of course this couldn’t be Rain’s fault. She was too perfect to be selfish.

”You can go” ”if you want” ”but we wish” ”you wouldn’t” the twins said, their anxiety messing up their speech even more than usual. The raised their puppy dog eyes to look at hers, wondering what would happen next.

”Maybe we can forget this happened next time?” Jake offer, hesitantly.

”But we do love you.” ”We do.” There that was the best they could do. Just lay everything out on the floor and hope this would all work out someone. Maybe it could be their Christmas miracle.

Rain looked at them, confused, why would their twin thing be a problem? “What? No.. I mean no… it isn’t that!... I mean like… I don’t have a problem with your twin thing… I find it pretty cute really..” She mumbled the last part… She wasn’t sure what them being gestalts had to do with her doubts… Considering it wasn’t like she was saying she didn’t like Jake… Just that she thought Jake didn’t like her… Granted the twin thing did make it very confusing trying to figure that out… “Please don’t think anything bad about yourselves… I’m sorry..”

“I feel horrible making you think that’s what it was..” She was pretty stupid… She made them feel bad, she hadn’t meant to! “I was.. just confused is all…”

Rain got up, but instead of leaving she walked over to John and jake, knelt in front of Jake, and hugged him. “Alright I won’t leave…” She smiled, she couldn’t resist those puppy eyes… “But I am terribly sorry… I hope you could forgive me..” She whispered into Jake’s ear.

She back up and looked at both of them, “We can forget it happened now…” She inched her way in front of John, and gave him a big long hug to. “Please don’t hate yourself..” She whispered into his ear.. She figured that John had some issues with being a gestalt pair at times, with his voice before… and she didn’t want that for him, he shouldn’t be ashamed, or hate himself, neither of them should. She back away again, and grinned at both of them. “I love you guys too.” This time she said it with no hesitation.

John and Jake couldn't help but smile when Rain said she didn't have a problem with their "twin thing". The exchanged a look of 'did you hear that' with each other. Really it was the most amazing thing she could have said. And although they would doubt the truth of it in the morning, right now they were floating a little.

They continued to smile when she agree to stay. Still, it was dawning on them that if they stayed up here in their bedroom all night, there mom would have something to say about it. Not that she was strict about that sort of thing. But Christmas Eve was a family affair and she wouldn't want them to spend it holed up in their room. And their siblings would probably be picking on them about being alone with a girl for so long. While they wouldn't mind some advice an just what they heck they should do with a girl alone in their room, they didn't want to deal with all the teasing just yet.

Jake returned her hug, loving the feel of her in his arms and the smell of her hair in his face. Still he couldn't help but blush a little and giggle at how awkward it made him feel to be this close to her.

John blushed as well after his hug, but managed to suppress his own awkward giggle.

And then she said it. The "L" word. This really was the best Christmas/Birthday ever. The two were grinning like idiots now.

"Good." "Good."

"It's just all...good." John said, wishing he knew a stronger word, but his brain seemed to be stuck. Jake nodded alone, also lost for words to describe this night where all their dreams seemed to be coming true.

"But...we should probably...uh...return to the party,"Jake mentioned, as the twins shared a collective sigh.

The twins rose, each holding out a hand to Rain to help her up.
