Maybe it was because Rowan found it like a theme song, or maybe because it was upbeat and easy to listen to, either way Rowan was obsessed with the song. It just fit him so well and was the only thing that he could listen to anymore without feeling like he was going to be sick. Everything had been going down hill lately. Literally everything he could think of turning to shit in front of him. Beatrice was...different. She was trying to be her own person and though he understood it, it was still difficult to watch. She wasn't his little Beat-box anymore and he didn't know how to handle it.
Lucy was still there, as he knew she would be, but they'd both become busy with their own things and he didn't blame her for that. He mostly blamed himself for it. Callie he saw through dance, Sammy was doing her own thing. Everyone was going their own way, and Rowan was stuck in the same slump that he'd been in since his junior year. He didn't want to graduate. He didn't care about his future. He was headed nowhere.
Honestly, he wouldn't have been quite so moody if it wasn't for the most recent split up. Alex had drifted away from him and things had gone unfixed between them. There was no mending the fuck up that he'd caused at the Halloween dance. Rowan couldn't quite blame Alex for it, he was young, had a lot to look forward to and he deserved someone that wasn't stuck in a rut. Rowan wanted the best for his first boyfriend. He would do better things without Rowan dragging him down. But that didn't make it hurt any less. It probably made things worse. He didn't quite know how he was going to get over it.
He hadn't even told Lucy yet.
Sitting out in the courtyard, sitting against a tree, he closed his eyes and just listened Ingrid Michaelson sing about equal love.
