What Exams? (Madison, Genesis)

Raylaigh stretched out and groaned bending back in his chair and grumbling. He was so over this Algebra and Trig thing. He didn’t know why he had to know how to take a sine and make it into cosine or tangent and what rules had to go with what. Really, when was he ever going to use this?! He sighed and looked out his open window woefully at the nice weather out. This was no day to be stuck inside. Ray flailed a little and tried to turn back to his book but the letters and symbols just floated by his eyes and meant nothing to the boy. He got up and took his headphones out of his ears and let the sound of birds from outside reach his ears. Ray shook his head and looked back at the book. He wrinkled his nose. Screw that! He was done studying for the day. He couldn’t force himself to sit and study any longer.

He sat on the edge of his bed and pulled on his shoes and kicked out his feet and let his wings flutter and get comfortable again. Pulling on a jacket Ray took up the skateboard that Maddie was lending him and a helmet and pads. He smiled and pulled out his phone as he walked and sent a message to his two skateboarding buddies, both of whom needed to meet each other and needed to help him get these mountain travel plans nailed down. Ray trotted down the stairs while looking at his phone and missed on having to frantically grab the railing to prevent a tumble. Okay, he needed to watch where he was going. Once he was out he paused and quickly sent a text to Maddie and to Alex. It was too nice a day to miss. It was going to be a great one, not a day to be in studying at all.

To: Alex
Stop what you’re doing and meet me in the courtyard with your board!

Ray then bent to put the board on the ground and give it a little push before he hoped up on the skateboard. He propelled himself toward the courtyard, most specifically the large paved area by the parking lot. He slid along making a serpentine pattern as he approached the area. His wings flapped and Ray crouched putting his hands on the edges of the board and his wings kicked up some dust as he sped forward. He reached a bench and jumped but the board landed wrong on the bench and Raylaigh ended up having to run and hop off of the opposite side of the bench, trotting after the board that was slipping elsewhere. Alex and Maddie needed to get here soon, he wanted to see what they could do and see what he could learn from them. He was probably the worst of the three of them as he’d had a long break between when he was allowed to board and now.

The unfinished geometry homework sat on the coffee table next to Maddie as she hung upside down on the couch playing sonic on her DS. Like always when it came to math Madison started of doing her homework but ended up getting distracted when she happen to spot her gameboy. She told herself to only play for a few minutes but that turned into now a hour she had been playing. Madison paused the game as she heard her phone chime and grabbed her phone to see who text her. She smiled as she seen it was Ray telling her to meet him with her board. Of course Madison always had time to hang with Ray. She texted him back.

Sir yes sir! I'll be right there.<3

She glanced at her work on the table and shrugged. Eh what was a little more procrastinating going to hurt? She had a few days anyway. Madison grabbed her skateboard and backpack filling it with snacks and drinks just incase they got hungry and of course her camera and headed out. Once outside she hopped on her board and made her way to the courtyard weaving in and out of people in the way. "Excuse me coming thru" she yelled. Now where is that boy?, she thought as she reached the courtyard looking around. Ah there he is. She smiled as she seen him hopping up on the bench and then chasing his board. She slowed down as she reached him so to go the same pace as him and smiled. "You almost had it but I think your suppose to stay on the board" she joked. She then sped up and came to a swift stop a few inches in front of the runaway board to cut off it's path. Maddison bent down and stopped it with her hand as it reached her. After it was still she hopped off her board and jumped on him her arms around his neck. "Hiya Ray. I've missed you it has been too long"! Though it wasn't even 48 since they last hung out. "What's with the emergency skate session"?

Alex was half asleep when the text came, startling her and causing her to bolt upright on her bed. She clicked off her audiobook, unplugged her headphones from her iPod, and replugged them into her phone. Who'd sent her a text? Most people she knew were studying... or getting into trouble. She clicked the appropriate buttons to play the text message, and listened as the computerized voice spoke, "Message from Ray follows: Stop what you’re doing and meet me in the courtyard with your board."

Ray. Of course. That made sense. She grinned and swung out of bed. She could study later--mantra of her life it seemed sometimes. Stuffing her phone into her pocket and adjusting her headphones around her neck, she knelt down and pulled her skateboard out from under her bed before bounding from the room and out of the dorm.

She walked to the courtyard with the board balanced on her shoulder, not willing to risk boarding over. Too much unpredictability, skating around people, and she didn't want to bash into anyone. If anything, it would be embarrassing. Worst case scenario, they could both end up injured, which wouldn't do anything for her grades. As she approached, she started sifting through voices. There weren't too many... There, "Hiya, Ray" a girl said, and that's where she headed. She smiled and gave a wave as she arrived. "What's up, guys?"

Ray’s face broke into a smile as Maddie came around. “I meant to do that!” He called after her as she went to catch the board. He was quickly falling in love with the board she was lending him, despite all of the misery that it gave him. He ran after her and the board now. He would get that eventually, he just needed a little more lift. Or maybe he was going about it the wrong way. The good news was that he didn’t eat pavement when he lost the board. He was getting better at letting the board go on and cutting his losses when things went badly. He was really glad for the helmet though, and the pads, they had come in handy more than once in practice. He was still a terrible faller, he threw his hands out and his knees and he’d been banged up but luckily not broken anything yet. He hadn’t been going fast or doing anything too crazy.

Ray caught her and squeezed her tightly. “I know it’s been like a year Maddie I missed you!” He cried just as dramatically. He lifted her a bit off of her feet and when he heard Alex he set Maddie’s feet down and waved back at Alex, forgetting for a moment that she couldn’t see him. He still was blown away by her ability to use her power, she had to be hands down the coolest blind person he knew, well okay, she was the only blind person he knew but she was still awesome. He didn’t let Alex get away with a wave and when she was close enough he snagged her in a tight hug. He was so excited for Maddie and Alex to meet, they were definitely some of his favorite people and he was glad that they were meeting.

“Emergency skate session ‘cause I literally cannot study on a day like this,” he grinned at his friends and waved a hand from one to the other. “Alex this is Maddie, Maddie this is Alex.” He went around Maddie to retrieve the boards and handed hers over. “I also realize I need more practice if we’re gonna be racing in the summer.” He grinned and stepped up on the board and just rolled back and forth for a few moments grinning at the girls. He was going to have to work hard to get tricks down and balance back. As much as his parents might be upset if they knew he was skateboarding again, he had to admit it was helping him relearn his overall balance, which he’d completely lost when he’d grown over the summer. It was helping his balance and therefore his flying and walking.

"I can't study on a day like this either. Well honestly I have a problem studying any day but that's not the point". Madison smiled at Alex as he introduced them. Having heard a lot about her Madison was super stoked to be meeting Alex. She always loved meeting her friends friends but was more excited because how awesome the girl sound."It's a pleasure to finally meet you Alex. I have heard lots of good things about you". She grabbed her camera and snapped a picture of the girl. "You know you are very pretty".

She put her camera away and grabbed her board from Ray. "Yeah you have a lot of practice to do if you want to beat me Ray" she teased playfully. She knew she was good at skateboarding but wouldn't be that hard to beat her still. Plus Ray wasn't to shabby and with just a little practice he could be really good. "You to Alex". She hopped up on her board. "Though I heard you are very good. How long you been skating"?

Alex smiled, listening closely to judge where Maddie was standing so she could face her as well as possible. "Always good to meet another boarder," she said in reply. She heard the click of what sounded like a camera, and after clicking her pen a few times, she confirmed that it was a camera. She wasn't sure why on earth someone was taking random pictures of her, and was about to ask about it when Maddie tossed out that she was pretty. Alex paused briefly at this before giving a half grin and a, "Thanks."

She listened to her banter with Ray with amusement, letting her own board drop to the ground and putting a foot on it to steady it. "I've been skatin' about four years," she said. "Started when I was twelve." Yeah, and she'd been far from good, especially since she'd started at it before her power showed up. Her parents would've killed her if they'd known. They'd thrown enough of a fit when she came home with a broken wrist and a story about falling out of a tree. If they'd know she got the broken wrist from skating they would've tried to put her on lockdown, no doubt.

"How long you been at it?" she questioned in return, pushing off on her skateboard to skim around a little, feeling the ground out and clicking her pen in an almost constant beat as she listened for Maddie's reply.

“Right?!” Raylaigh agreed with Maddie, he was probably the least studious person alive. Alex was the one that studied, or at least that was what Raylaigh was thinking. Ray just smiled when Maddie snapped herself a picture. Coming back with the boards to hear Maddie compliment Alex, Ray nodded and gave a beaming smile. “Mhmm, you both are,” he added passing a smile between the two of them and suppressing giggles. He was glad that they were already getting along so well, it must be a boarder thing, everyone was immediate friends. At least that was how it worked in Raylaigh’s brain, though he’d met both of them and love them both before he knew they boarded so maybe it was just that they got along well. Either way, Ray was glad.

“Just you wait, Maddie, I’ll leave you in the dust!” He exclaimed taking her up on the challenge before he could even accomplish the simplest tricks. Technically Raylaigh had experience but that was before his power and before he’d grown and things he’d been able to do when he was a foot shorter were significantly harder to do now that he was taller. Raylaigh slid around and listened to Alex’s answer. She’d been doing this a very long time, well at least in Raleigh’s concept of time, that was a quarter of her life she’d been skateboarding. He was jealous. Raylaigh was fascinated by Alex’s power and how she was able to see with her hearing, both her and Maddie’s power of illusions made Raylaigh wish he had more than just these annoying wings, but then he could also see the challenges of them. It was a grass is always greener situation, he supposed.

Ray kept up with his swaying and then gave himself a little push this way and that increasing the back and forth motion. He was curious about how long Maddie’d been skating as well. He drifted away from the two and leaned into a turn circling slowly and sliding past. He was paying attention to Maddie and Alex and had to quickly dodge a bush when it suddenly appeared in his peripheral vision. Oops, okay paying attention. He pushed off the ground. He wanted to get up on that bench. He gathered speed and kicked the board up, but the same thing happened as before and the board hit wrong and Raylaigh jumped off and the board went rolling back toward Maddie and Alex. “Watch out!” He called trotting after it.
