This was it. The weekend Phoenix had been looking forward to since the day he'd thought of the idea. And now, driving through the backwoods of Vermont's mountains in a cab, looking out the window as he held Oriel's hand, he wondered if it could get any more perfect.

"Honey, look at the scenery," he breathed, peering out the window. The sun was starting to set over the horizon, but there was still enough daylight to see just how far out they were. There were woods all around them, and hills, and even a lake in the distance. This was just what he'd imagined, only better, seeing it in reality.

When they arrived at the cabin, Phoenix practically squealed. He ran up to the front door, digging in his pockets to get the key they'd been given to unlock it as quickly as possible and step inside. "Ohmygoodddd," he squeaked. It was so. Cute. It wasn't a large place by any means, but it was clean, and smelled like cedar and woodsmoke, and ohmygod he was in love already. He spun around taking in the interior, then ran to the other side of the room to go out on the balcony. The view was spectacular, and his breath caught in his throat. Pretty soon, there should be fireworks spouting off in the distance. It was Independence Day, after all.

"Do you like it do you like it?" he chattered, looking back at Oriel with a ginormous smile on his blonde-haired face.

Finding a cabin for the high school couple was a lot easier and cheaper than Oriel thought it’d be. Seventy four dollars a night for the Fourth of July weekend yielded only about 200. He was expecting it to be some crazy number, like 300 per night. Transportation was the only other thing that they had to consider(bus to Rutland and from there a cab), that and food, but Phoenix had a lot more saved up from his job than Oriel thought. Plus, Oriel’s payout from the modeling event also helped. Outside of that it was just about getting permission, because Oriel still had to be considered a damn kid. At least the boy hadn’t gotten into any serious kind of trouble lately, nothing that would warrant him being confined to campus again. Just some detentions that he needed to make sure he attended. Oriel didn’t care about that shit anymore, if it meant he could have a bit of freedom, Oriel would happily go to as many detentions as they wanted him to.

Oriel made sure the cabbie was paid before slipping out of the cab and toting in their bags while his lover scampered off like a kid at a playground.

Oriel smiled. Phoenix was so happy. This really was a good idea.

“I love it,” he confirmed, glancing about the small studio cabin. It was quaint. He nearly burst out laughing at the itty-bitty 2-burner stove that it had. Oriel didn’t even know they made them that small.

He deposited the bags on the bed, glancing out the window as he did so and smiling at the view across the balcony and off the mountain. They should get a good view of the fireworks from the nearby town from here. Oriel stood in the sliding glass doorway to the balcony, watching his lover fawn over the view. “Having fun there? Just be careful, I’d hate to see you fall off.” Even Phoenix wasn’t that stupid, right?

Phoenix was already betting they would wish they'd been able to afford more nights at this place by the time they had to leave. It was so quiet, and peaceful, and away from prying eyes; he loved that they would have the entire place to themselves without having to deal with anyone or being interrupted. He felt like they could get away with anything...

"I'm not gonna fall off, silly," he giggled, looking back at his lover. "That's why there's a railing." After a few more moments of looking out over the surroundings, he turned and darted back to Oriel, wrapping his arms around him and smothering his face into the boy's chest. "I'm so happy," he breathed. Phoenix reached down and pulled up Oriel's hand, landing a kiss on the tattoo just below his wrist.

And then his stomach growled.

Phen froze, then laughed, nudging Oriel inside. "I guess I'm hungry too," he chuckled, going to the bed to rifle around the bags that they'd brought. "What do we have for dinner? You gonna cook somethin'?" He pulled out a bag of chips and popped it open, tossing a few in his mouth before offering it to Oriel.

Just Oriel and Phoenix for a whole weekend. No adults, no annoying roommates and dorm monitors, no responsibilities to anyone other than themselves. They could get away with near anything they wanted out here. It was a nice feeling. Like someone had just taken all the pressure of expectations that the two boys felt on a near constant basis and tossed it over the cliff on the opposite side of the balcony.

“Yeah, and what if the thing breaks?” He was sure they wouldn’t be renting this place out if the railing, or any other part of it, broke so easily, but who knew? They didn’t know the owner any more than the next person, he could’ve let this place get termites or something.

Still, Oriel was enjoying the view and released his own laughs at Phoenix came running back into his arms like an over-excited child. “Yeah,” he agreed. “Me too.” Oriel rested his hand over Phoenix’s head, ruffling his hair in affection, then planted his own kiss on the boy’s forehead.

Oriel rolled his eyes at the sound of Phoenix’s tummy, though. “Fuck, think you got your own percussion line going on in there,” he teased, grabbing Phoenix from behind and giving his empty stomach a little pat. It produced a hallow sound, and he did it again until Phoenix wiggled out and scampered to the bed. “Yeah, I grabbed some shit down in Rutland,” while Phoenix was off waiting for the cab. Oriel grabbed the plastic bags and dumped them on the table before rifling through them. “Steak, hot dogs, eggs…” Meat mostly. “What do you feel like?” he asked, lifting his head to smile at his boyfriend.

Should Phoenix be slightly nervous that they were out here all by themselves? That Oriel could do whatever he wanted to the much weaker pixie and no one could stop him? Maybe, but that thought was so far from Phen's mind that it might as well not existed. He loved and trusted Oriel more than anyone in the world, no matter what other people thought of him.

"It's not gonna breeaaak," he sighed, giving Oriel an exasperated smile. "You worry too much, Squish. Whoa~!" Phen pretended to lean too far back against the railing until he fell over the back of it, but he quickly started giggling to show he was kidding. "I weigh like, two pounds. I'm not gonna be breakin' nothin'."

He giggled again as Oriel's hands ruffled up his hair, beaming with affection as he gazed up at the taller boy. "Yeah, I guess I do," he teased, sticking out his tongue as he started to flee before Oriel's arms wrapped around him and he started drumming on his belly. "Stooop!" he squealed, wriggling around until he broke loose and escaped, stomach heaving with laughter. Phoenix watched as Oriel started looking through what they had, curling his knees up to his chest as he pondered. "Hot dogs sound good," he decided. Not because he had later that evening planned already or anything, nope.

Phoenix hopped back off the bed and stood over by his lover's side, looking at all the perishable food. "We should prob'ly put this stuff in the fridge," he said, quickly scooping up some of the goods (except the hot dogs) and shoving them in the tiny refrigerator. Each time he got close to Oriel, he couldn't help but nuzzle into him, not wanting to be out of reach for a moment. "We should put on some music and dance later," he suggested with a childish grin.

If Phoenix continued to act like a fucking dork, Oriel was going to get a headache from all his eye rolling. Though if Phoenix really tried, he might manage to give Oriel a hernia from laughing. His cheeks were certainly starting to ache despite himself. Oriel was about as excited about this trip as Phoenix was. He was just better at keeping himself under wraps in the face of his more excitable lover.

“Nope,” Oriel said, leaning in further to gnaw gently on Phoenix’s ear before letting him go.

“Hot dogs it is then…” Oriel mused, already considering how he was going to accomplish that. He took a brief look around the kitchen area, opening the cupboards and checking to see what kind of supplies they had available to them. Pots and pans and utensils….they actually were pretty stocked. He pulled out a pot to boil the hot dogs in and set it on the skinny stove. He took the dogs from Phoenix and set them in the sink.

“Music and dance…” he repeated, looking up to the ceiling as he pondered this. “Like what? Some cheesy romantic stuff? With a sexy saxophone?” Oriel turned and grabbed both of Phoenix’s hand and started swaying them back and forth and to and fro as if they were already dancing, backing his lover away from the the kitchenette. “And maybe you can stand on my toes so you don’t trip over your own feet.” He laughed again and pulled Phoenix back up to him, right into a gentle, loving kiss. “Mmm…I almost want to skip dinner…and go straight to dessert.” Oriel slid a hand down to snatch a handful of his lover’s skinny rump. “What do you think?”

Did Phoenix know the effect his dorky behavior had on his lover? Maybe. Maybe that was why he acted like a kid so much. Or maybe that really was just who he was. The world may never know~

He trailed behind his lover as he started to prepare dinner, probably seeming like he was doing everything he could to get in the way - wrapping his arms around the boy's waist when he was standing straight, nuzzling into the crook of his arm, planting kisses against his hair on the back of his neck. "I still wish you'd've been there when I was takin' the test for Home Ec," he mumbled at one point. "Maybe I never woulda got that awful powder in my eye otherwise." And all the other things that had gone wrong. "I guess I'm lucky I didn't get blind from that." No one had told him!

Phoenix giggled and squeezed his lover at his questions. "I dunno! Somethin' fun an' that I could actually dance to," he replied, letting Oriel snag his hands and move him about, squeeing all the while. "I think I saw a boombox over there," he added, jerking his head behind him towards the other side of the room. "What, me, trip? Pfff, you know I'm graceful as hell, I'd never do-" Even as he spoke, Phoenix nearly tripped himself; if Oriel hadn't been holding him, he would've landed on his butt. He was still flustered when Oriel kissed him, but that definitely made his embarrassment a lot better.

"Hey, now... That wasn't the plan," he complained, cheeks flushing at Oriel's wandering hands. "We gotta wait until the fireworks start, remember?" Phen hoped he could last that long, at least, but with Oriel groping him... He didn't know. So he wriggled out of his lover's arms and darted to the boombox, managing to turn it on; it started playing some old, funky music he didn't recognize. "C'mon, let's boogie while we wait for the hot dogs t'be done!" Phoenix giggled, wiggling and throwing his arms around like a dork. Apparently his near-tumble didn't phase him.

Oriel had gotten used to trying to prepare supper with his lover hanging off of him like an attention starved kidlet. He imagined that the boy would be crawling on his back and up his shoulders if he were small enough. If Phoenix tried that now, Oriel would shove him off without question.

Well…maybe not. Maybe play around with him a little, back up onto the bed and do a body slam or something like what they do in those pro-wrestling shows.

“Yeah, I think you’d do best to just say away from the kitchen from now on.” Oriel loved the pixie, but the kid could probably burn the house down from trying to butter bread. “I got this,” he assured with a smile, turning his head and stealing a small kiss.

Boombox? What was this, the 90s?

“You mean a stereo?” he asked with an obvious jeer in his tone. Oriel laughed when Phoenix tripped like a little kid, as if on cue. “You really are a dope.” He was just so adorable, Oriel could just eat him up. And he would have to, if Phoenix hadn’t slipped himself away. “Who says we got to stick to a plan?” Oriel spread his hands out, as if to prove a point. “Who’s going to get on us if we don’t?” They were on their own schedule and time. They didn’t have to follow anyone else’s rules out here.

Oriel returned to the tiny stove(seriously, it was tiny!) and put the heat on, then filled the pot with water from the tap. He unwrapped the package of 8 hot-dogs and set them in the slowly heating water. It wasn’t going to take long, just a few minutes to get them cooked. But that was probably still enough time for the couple to “boogie” for a while. Oriel rolled his eyes at Phoenix’s choice of words. “You look like an idiot, flailing about like that,” he chided with a dorky smile of his own. He finally left the stove and traipsed over to join his boyfriend. “The fuck kind of music is this?” He didn’t recognize it either.

Maybe it was fortunate Oriel didn't need to body-throw Phoenix onto the bed. He might break something, like his back.

"At least I still managed t'pass," he squeaked, rubbing the back of his head. "I just... Need t'stay away from powders." Phen paused. "And flammable things. And... Probably raw meat." Ah, who was he kidding? Phoenix was incredibly fortunate to have a boyfriend that could cook, otherwise he'd never survive on his own.

"Stereo, boombox, same thing," he muttered, scuffing a shoe. "That's what my mom called them, I guess it just kinda stuck." Phoenix pouted at Oriel's obvious mocking tone. "I'm not a dope! There's just a... A raised floorboard right there," he scoffed, pointing towards the perfectly flat area he'd tripped over. Hmph. "It's not thaaat," he replied, looking out the window to the darkening sky. "I just really wanna do it when... Y'know... Sparks're flyin' outside." Although knowing Oriel, they could do it now and he'd be ready for another round right after, while Phoenix would probably be exhausted. "So... Be good," he humphed, prodding a finger against Oriel's chest. Phoenix snickered a moment later.

He watched as Oriel got the things ready, licking his lips as he watched the hot dogs being placed in the pan. His stomach growled hungrily. "I'm gonna eat all of those," he challenged with a cheeky grin. Phoenix ignored Oriel's jibe at his 'dancing'; he was just jealous! "You're not the only one that can spin like a damn ballerina." Phoenix attempted to spin... And ended up crashing right into his lover's chest, clinging onto his shirt for dear life. ".... I dunno. Just found it on the radio," he finally mumbled. "Maybe it's not good for dancin'." Phoenix wriggled away from his lover and fiddled with the radio stations until something that sounded more catchy came on. "Come on!" he chirped, grasping Oriel's hands and shaking his hips around, like Oriel had done to him earlier. He was grinning like the world's biggest dork.

“You mean, pretty much everything?” Oriel offered after Phoenix finished his list of ‘things to stay away from’. “Do you even know how to use a microwave?” Oriel snickered, tilting his head as he leaned in even closer to his boyfriend. “‘Cause if you can’t even do that then….I’m sorry, Phoenix, but we might have to start seeing other people. Microwave incompetence is a deal breaker.” He grinned to show he was joking and used the moment to steal yet another peck from his boyfriend’s lips.

Oriel rolled his eyes. “Geeze, isn’t your mom ancient though? Of course you’d be stuck in retro slang.” He moved away from the stove, letting the water come to a boil. “I hear the word “boombox” and I think of some burly black dude in a wife-beater strolling down the street with a box and speakers off his shoulders like he was hauling cargo or something.” He’d seen it before, but even those guys didn’t call it a “boombox”.

“Laaaame,” he continued to mock. “You’re laaame.” Not only for the ‘boombox’ thing, but also for withholding the sexy-good-times from Oriel when he selfishly wanted it now.

No matter, Oriel would just make sure to give Phoenix a little extra attention tonight.

“You and what stomach?” Oriel questioned with a laugh. “Knowing you, you’ll barely make it through one!” If that! Oriel was certain Phoenix would already be wanting to give up halfway through his first. No doubt Oriel was going to have to make sure the boy got his full share, heh heh heh.

Oriel caught his lover as he tried to show off his mad skillz and slipped his hand around the thin boy’s waist….which didn’t hold him for long. “Oy, you little Squish, hold still! You’re bouncing around like one of them mexican beans.” Though the new song he put on was a lot more suited for dancing. Oriel was sure he heard it somewhere before, though couldn’t quite remember where. Oriel’s grin had yet to cease as he watched his boyfriend further act like an idiot. “You…no, it’s like this, dummy.” Oriel gripped Phoenix’s hands tighter and started leading Phoenix in something that actually resembled dancing. Then he took a chance and dared to spin Phoenix around like one of those ballroom dancers.

"I... Yeah!" Phoenix halfway lied. He was pretty sure he could use a microwave... He couldn't remember if he ever had though. Phen gave a huge pout and his eyes went wide at the 'deal breaker', before he clutched Oriel's shirt and whimpered. "I'll be a microwaving pro in no time! I promise!" The kiss made him feel better, but he still pouted.

"Don't talk about my mom like that," he humphed with a sassy cross of his arms and shifting of his hips. "Yeah, well, I don't make fun of how you talk, so..." Phoenix tried to put on his best (worst) stereotypical New Yorker accent. "Stop talkin' shit 'bout how I talk an' make me dinner, dammit." Phoenix gave a cheeky grin.

He just stuck out his tongue at Oriel's jabs, wiggling his butt but otherwise not giving in to Oriel's wants. Yet.

"This stomach!" he retorted, sucking in a breath and popping out his stomach as much as he could manage. The small bump could barely even be seen underneath his oversized shirt. "So there." Oriel was probably right, but that didn't mean Phoenix wasn't going to pretend that he ate like a normal person without Oriel's proddings.

"Nu-uh!" he giggled as he squirmed out of Oriel's grasp. That was one nice thing about being skinny, having the ability to worm out of practically any situation. He bounced around until Oriel caught him again, still squealing and laughing like a five-year-old as he let the boy take his hands and show him the ropes. "Ahh... Ah..." he let out squeaks any time he nearly tripped, but managed to stay upright until the spin, whereupon he stumbled and landed right into Oriel's chest again. He giggled and stood on his tiptoes to plant a kiss on his lover's lips. "I love you," he said with a smile. "Wanna eat now?" Assuming the hot dogs were done cooking, he wiggled out of the ink manipulator's grasp again and skittered over to the stove to wait while his Squishy took out the hot dogs. He rummaged around and got out the condiments and buns too.

“Right, you keep telling yourself that. We’ll be having an exam on that once we get back.” Maybe he should give the boy some time to actually study for the ‘exam’. Though….maybe he should just give up and let Oriel cook for him for the rest of his life. Yeah, that’d be a lot easier.

Oriel rolled his head back in laughter. “I do not sound like that!” he insisted, his smile starting to ache in his cheeks. “I just fucking talk, you know? Like a person. Got nothing to do with nothing. ‘Least I don’t got that lazy little slur you always mumbling about with.” He smirked, shaking his head in his amusement.

As Phoenix stuck out his ‘pot belly’, Oriel bent down to inspect it, then promptly extinguished the protrusion with a simple poke of his finger. “Yup…you’re a regular pillsbury dough boy.”

It was just fun and games for the moment, but it was times like these that Oriel wished he were a good enough dancer to make his partner dance. For the moment, he was doing alright, but he’d seen some people on tv and even in the dance club who were phenomenal at leading their partners into a dance as if they weren’t amateurs…either that or Phoenix was just really that bad at dancing. Either way, Oriel held the boy up when he collided into his chest, dipping his head slightly to meet his lips with Phoenix’s. “Love you too, Squish.”

He turned his eyes back to the stove and followed behind his lover to go finish taking care of their little meal. “You get the table set up, alright?” he instructed, switching the burner to off and straining the hot water down the sink. He left them in the pot - they’d be fine there - and grabbed a towel to put the on the table so he could set the hot pot on top of it. Oriel tossed a fork in, stabbing one of the dogs and leaving it there. “Dinner is served. You’re favorite. Wieners.” Oriel suggestively waggled his eyebrows.

"You do sound like this!" Phoenix went on, still trying to keep up the accent. "Like... Like cawfee." He tried to pronounce 'coffee' like he'd heard typical New Yorkers' do it. He snickered and then pouted and shook his head. "I don't sluuurrr," he whined. At least, not as bad as he used to. But he sure mumbled a hell of a lot.

He yelped as Oriel 'popped' his belly, which instantly deflated back into its flat, scrawny plane. "You killed the baby," he wailed... And then giggled again.

It was probably just because Phoenix really was terrible at dancing. He had no rhythm, his skinny limbs didn't look good flailing around in any way, and he made the goofiest expressions while doing it. Then again... Maybe he also just enjoyed seeming like a klutz so he could fall on Oriel and have an excuse for nuzzles. He smiled into the kiss, humming happily.

He nodded obediently at the instructions. "Okay!" he chirped, still dancing a little to the music as he grabbed some plates and set them out, along with glasses and milk. Soon enough, everything was set and ready to be devoured. He grinned cheekily at his boyfriend. "You know I love your wiener...s," he snickered, snagging the hot dog that was on the fork and sticking it into a bun and handing the fork back to his Squish. Phoenix then grabbed the mustard and ketchup and squirted on some of each before also adding a bit of relish. "Mmmmmm," he sighed as he took a big bite, getting ketchup on the corner of his mouth. "It's yummyyyyy." He quickly munched a little more, taking smaller bites like he usually did, until he was about three-fourths of the way done. And then he sat it down. ".... I'm full," he announced.

“Caw-caw-caw-fee,” he said with exaggeration. “What the hell is that s’pposed to be, you sound like a fucking crow.” Oriel didn’t think too much about how he spoke(obviously), he just did it. It wasn’t anything that mattered anyway. “Oh, don’t you? You’d think those drama exercises would’ve taught you to enunciate or something.”

Oriel snorted a laugh. “Thought I told you to tell me when you turned into a woman.” Yes, he remembered saying something like that before. Oriel reached up to grope Phoenix on the chest. “….nope, still flat as a washboard.”

Whether or not it was because Phoenix was terrible or because Oriel just wasn’t good enough, Oriel did enjoy seeing Phoenix act like a goofball. He really was like a 5-year-old kid sometimes…or all the time. Sure, the sheer level of dumb that Phoenix had could get annoying sometimes…but for the most part it just made Oriel laugh. And that’s what he was doing, all the while the were dancing.

And again, he laughed at Phoenix’s response to Oriel’s ‘suggestive’ declaration. “Oh, I’ll bet you do, can’t cram enough of in, right?” Right. Oriel watched as Phoenix garnished up his dog, prepping his own with only ketchup. “Is it now?” he asked, taking in his own bite. It was already half gone with just that. And then completely gone by the time Phoenix announced he was full. “…..you barely ate anything!” he nagged. Geeze, it was always a battle to get this pixie to eat more than a couple bites of anything. “At least finish the one you started.” That was his biggest complaint, honestly. Serving yourself more than you could handle. Oriel knew he could take care of the rest of the dogs, no problem. But Phoenix should at least be able to finish one.

If he didn't....well, Oriel had some punishment in mind...that he was planning on using regardless if Phoenix finished the hot dog, but Phoenix didn't have to know that.

"You and I both know I really suck at drama and the teacher's just nice enough not t'kick me out," Phen retorted. Which was partially a lie, Phoenix wasn't that bad at it, he just had no confidence.

"I've still got a penis too!" he announced, as though this might be under question. He giggled as Oriel 'groped' his chest, puffing it out as though there was something to actually grab. "Just wait, one of these days you're gonna wake up and, boom, boobs in your face," he snickered.

"Mmmmfff," he affirmed to Oriel's question, his mouth stuffed with hot dog. Phoenix made no effort to eat the meal with any sort of dignity or grace. In fact, he may have been making an effort to make it more 'provocative' than it already would have been (although it might have failed due to the condiments dripping on his plate... or maybe that added to it). "I ate that much!" he retorted, motioning to how much hot dog was missing. It really wasn't much, especially considering how hungry he'd said he was. "Fiiiine," he sighed, slowly managing to finish off the rest. His little tummy felt like it was a little bloated by the time he was done. "Okay I'm done."

With that, he picked up his plate and deposited it in the sink, then promptly hopped behind his boyfriend and wrapped his arms around the presumably still-eating boy. "It's getting dark out," he murmured in Oriel's ear. He gave the lobe a nip. "I bet the fireworks are gonna start soon." The bed, situated near the window already, was the perfect perch for Phoenix to kneel on and lean against the glass panes, which he did so now, like an excited child waiting for the show to start.
