Power(s): Shifter – Ability to shift into various humanoid forms. Various aspects can be added, such as ears, tails, etc, but major join manipulation cannot be done, such as wings out of her back large enough to fly with. Otherwise, she can change other typical things in able to look like other people. She cannot add more than a foot to her height, and the taller she gets the more difficult it is for her to maintain muscle and bone integrity.
Effects vary depending on how drastic her change is. For example, if she's doing a simple ear shift in order to make her natural human ear pointed, the effect could simply be mild discomfort and itching. However, if it is something like changing height, there is a lot more pain and itching involved, as well as greater likelihood to become vitamin or mineral deficient, particularly involving calcium and iron. Depending on how drastic and/or sudden the change was, this might lead to dizziness and even unconsciousness.
When it comes to shifting different hair or skin colors, there is literally a shedding process for her. When it comes to hair, a new crop of hair grows in, and she has to cut the old color off. When it comes to skin, much the same happens. This makes those changes more inconvenient than Piper usually likes, so typically she avoids such shifts, especially where it concerns skin color. Increased hunger is obviously another effect of this power.
Play By: Ariana GrandeLet it F L O W . . .Hi! Let me tell you about myself! I, Piper Lainie Regalston, was born in the best country on Earth. Scotland, of course. My parents were gypsies (well, part of a Scottish traveling group specifically), so I grew up always traveling. One week here, one week there, can we say best life ever?
Anyway, I had a pretty chill life. Sure, there were days I went without a couple meals, but so did my parents. Doctors say its partially because those those rough months that I'm so small (though really, is 4'11” really that small?) but they also say it's partially due to my power.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. I haven't manifested yet in my story! What happened first, was that we moved. Nothing new, but we moved countries this time, so that was new. Explanation? My parents had family that weren't gypsies (my auntie and uncle), and so they had a regular job and never moved anywhere. Well, until uncle got a promotion and lots of money. With the promotion came the need to move though, and since they worried about me (something about malnutrition or whatever) they convinced my parents to come too. To the USA.
So, my uncle got my dad a job at his workplace. I was eight by this point, so the move to stable life was very weird. Stable life, and also being sent off to public school, instead of mum teaching me. Kids there either adored my accent, or made great fun of it. Thankfully, I only had to put up with that for two years, because by the time I was ten, my dad saved up enough money and bought a trailer house, so we could travel around again! He said we would be doing independent shipping, and off we went!
But there was something weird. We didn't go without food anymore. I thought auntie and uncle were sending us money, because we didn't really have that many shipping jobs that I noticed, but then I realized we didn't have a mailbox for them to send money to. Dad didn't talk about his job much either, and sometimes we'd stay in one place for a couple of months. Mum said he was working, and when I asked what his work was, she said to ask him. When I did, he said he was shipping. When I asked what he was shipping, he said it was so many different things that he couldn't explain them all. It was frustrating.
So I did the only logical thing there was to do. One night I sneaked out of the trailer and followed him. Sneaking wasn't an easy matter, either, because I slept on a bunk above mum and dad's, and mom had really, really good hearing. But I had plenty of experience from back in Scotland, when we'd had to break into houses-- I mean, visit peoples' houses without them knowing. … Anyway.
I followed him into a city, where he met with some people in a park. They talked for a long time, and then he did the weirdest thing, or at least, I thought it was the weirdest thing then. His hair changed color! And he changed to look like a different person! I made that dumb squeak sound I always make when I'm startled, and was discovered. The men were very angry at first, but when dad said who I was, they calmed down a little. I could tell they were still mad though, and even dad wasn't happy.
That was when I found out my dad worked secretly for the government. I also found out that my aunt and uncle weren't really my aunt and uncle, and that we hadn't all moved to America because my aunt and uncle had gotten a promotion and money, but because the government wanted my dad to start working for them again. See, he had worked for them a long time, before he met my mum while on a job in Scotland, and before they had me. He took a leave of absence when I was two, because he wanted to spend time with me and mum, but after six years of that, he had to go back or get in trouble.
I was told not to tell anyone, and so I haven't. Because you can't just go around bragging that your parents are both metas, and that your dad works as something like a secret agent. I still don't know exactly what he does, but I'm sure it's awesome.
That was another thing I learned-- that my mom had such good hearing because she is a meta. She'd attended Kocher for her training, and my dad obviously had attended Hammel. One day I'm totally going to be an agent like him.
After that excitement, life was very good for three more years of sort've traveling like gypsies, sort've hanging around certain cities for a long time because dad had his important work. But when I was thirteen, I manifested too. It was very, very weird. I woke up with much longer hair than I'd remembered having, and it had grown out in different colors. My scalp itched a lot too. I started being even more hungry than I already usually was, and I kept randomly growing or shrinking an inch or two, which hurt way more than any stupid growing pains.
My parents obviously knew what was going on, and my dad contacted Hammel right away. By the time a week was out, I was a student of Hammel.
It's been four years since I manifested, and let me tell you it's been a rough time. Not because of the school (even though I miss being taught by my mum), but because I've had to stay in ONE place for FOUR years! I could just die!
Yes, I'm that stir-crazy kid who all the teachers hate having in their class. They might not say it, because I really, really do try to behave, but I know they get tired of my fidgeting and staring out the window. I'm not even allowed to sit next to the window anymore!
I've made plenty of friends, though. The students here are a lot nicer than the ones I'd first met. I have a pretty decent grasp of my power now, though obviously I have things to learn still. I don't randomly shift into other people anymore, or wake up with a bunch of hair that isn't mine, but sometimes I still mess up shifts if I'm not paying attention.
Yeah, I have attention problems I guess. But I blame the fact I haven't been able to move around lately, 'cause I had fine attention when I was traveling! I'm the kid who is always going, changing the subject, and wanting to run ahead of everyone else during a walk. Or race! That's even better! I like to talk, talking is good, so long as the subjects are interesting and the people can keep up with the conversation. Believe it or not, though I'm by no means an introvert, I'm not one of those bubbly chatty people either. I like my friend group, I don't mind getting to know others so long as they aren't annoying, but unless they just look really interesting, I won't usually go out of my way to make new friends. Bubbly chatty people are annoying.
Really, though, much as I like the friends I have made here, I just can't wait to get out of here and start traveling again. Friends are good, but they're not as important as traveling. Friends are for when you're stuck somewhere for a long period of time. Once I'm free again, I could take 'em or leave 'em.Behind the M A S K . . .Name: Raven
