Name: Sebastien Albin Haefeli
Nicknames: Seb, Sebbie, Bastie, Tien, Cripple
Age: 17
Orientation: Bisexual
Desired Rank/Job: Student
Powers:
Static Generation & Manipulation
Sebastien is a living Van De Graff machine. He creates static charge inside of his body, stores it there and can release it at will, in either short, sharp bursts, or one long powerful discharge. The shorter bursts are more likely to sting skin and cause flinching, rather a large discharge will cause a complete static field, much like a house being hit by lightning. The other effects of his power include attracting objects that are of an opposite charge to his body, wiping electrical hard drives and causing static reactions around him (see making people's hair stand on end, etc).
Of course, this makes things very difficult for Sebbie, since too great a static build up causes a great deal of static cling, meaning he can get stuck to walls, bits of paper, socks, puppies, etc. It also means people can't get close to him without getting a little zap at first. He can't sit too close to the TV without making the picture go fuzzy, he can't fiddle with computers because he wipes the drives. Also, if he discharges all the static energy inside of him at once, he becomes very disorientated and sick.

The Details
Hair Color: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Green
Any Piercings? Nope
Any Tattoos? Nope
Any Scars? Loads. Especially on his remaining leg stumps. Arms, back... he's a farm kid, what do you expect?
General Appearance: Sebastien is a friendly looking boy. With naturally stunning green eyes and a warm smile, he's the person you'd go to if you were nervous and needed comforting. With his dark hair pushed hesitantly out of his face and his bright white smile, he's never really been one to over-preen. Raised on a farm, he's a fan of simple clothes, shirts, jeans, nothing too flashy, no skinny jeans or tight fitting t-shirts, leather or converse, just a nice set of plain trainers.
Of course, you don't notice the fact that he has two fake legs until you ask him what the walking stick is for. After a terrible farm accident when he was 12, he lost both legs from just above the knee. Stubbornness has caused him to walk most places on his legs, rather than using the wheelchair, though every now and then you'll see him wheeling himself determinedly across the grounds. Because of this extra energy he needs, Sebastien has fantastic core strength, and is a well toned young man. Lifting sheep, general manual farm work and other things are pretty simple for him, and he's used to lifting things.
Other than that, the simple fact is Sebbie is a very wholesome looking boy, with tanned skin and strong shoulders. His disability is often hidden as best as he can, behind his jeans, and he tries not to draw attention to his walking cane. He'd rather people saw him as a whole man rather than part man, part plastic and metal.
Personality: Despite being disabled, Sebastien is a well-balanced, happy young man. He's somewhat stubborn-headed and likes to prove people wrong about what they expect of him. A high achiever and with a heart of gold, Sebbie doesn't expect too much of people, nor too little. He's honest, hard-working and loyal. But at the same time, he is true to himself and wont do anything he isn't comfortable doing. He is a good listener and always willing to cuddle someone if they are struggling with life at the moment.
His own life experiences have caused him to be somewhat wary of modern machinery, so he is often quite nervous around tractors, large lorries, farm machines, etc. He is very prideful and wont let on that he's afraid, but those who know him will notice the signs across his face. He doesn't have much of a temper and can be used as a doormat to those who are manipulative. The worst he has ever reacted to a situation is with a sharp curseword and a punch to the wall.
The other side of his personality is less cheerful. Sebbie has dark days where he feels hopeless, where his energy levels are low or his powers are irritating. Those days he locks himself away and hardly talks, often writing at length to get out the negative feelings and function again as a human. Any day where he has phantom pain in his stumps, or has to spend too much time in the wheelchair, will end in him feeling low. The problem is, he expects too much of himself, and anything less than his best makes him disappointed.

History
On a family farm in the green mountains of Switzerland, 1993, a heavy, dark haired baby was born. Throughout the years, the Haefeli family had always been into farming, from the very beginning of the family name. Emery Haefeli, and his wife, Irma, had been trying for a son for several years, especially after Irma lost her first child to a miscarriage. Irma had insisted on a homebirth, tying the child to the farm's heritage and the love of the family.
Emery adored his son, taking him out with him as he did the farm duties around the place, showing Sebastien how to work certain levers while he drove the tractor. Sebbie adored the farm work, harvesting the crops, watching them grow, even riding in the pick up to the market with bales of hay stacked higher than he could see. Farm life was wonderful, the love from his mother, Irma, was wonderful. Irma taught her son how to help her bake pies and cakes from the orchard fruits, and spent every hour she could raising a good natured boy.
Of course, things aren't to last.
Aged 12, after a long day at school, Sebastien noticed the combine harvester parked up close to the workshed, and headed over. Emery explained that the gears were stuck, and that he had been trying to oil them to loosen them. Because of this, the harvesting rake wasn't rotating properly, and they couldn't finish the wheat harvest. Sebastien diligently climbed into his overalls and helped his father. After a few hours of tinkering, the young boy managed to stop the blockage with a sharp kick, removing a large lump of stick from the gears. Just as he did that, Emery had accidentally nudged the start motor with his leg.
It was carnage. Both Sebastien's legs were mangled as the machine chewed them up. His mother, who had come out to bring a cup of tea to her two favourite men, screamed and ran to the phone, calling the ambulance to come immediately. Young Sebastien had lost an awful lot of blood as his main arteries poured blood out, and despite Emery's efforts to keep the blood flow down before the ambulance arrived, the boy died twice on the way to the hospital.
There was nothing they could do to save the lower legs. Both of them had tremendous nerve, bone and muscle damage beyond repair. Infection from the mucky farm equipment was too much of a risk, so, with grave sorrow, Emery and Irma signed the waiver to let the doctors save their son's life, and what they could of his legs. The operation was a success, although they very nearly lost him once again on the theatre table.
Then came the recovery.
Every night, Sebastien would feel his lower legs aching, would be sure they were there. One night he even fell out of the bed, believing his lower legs were there, the phantom limb cursing him into lying on the floor, crying for a nurse, for his mother, anyone. At the same time he recovered, his power developed. This frustrated Kocher, as they wanted to tutor him at the school. However, they chose a tutor to come out and visit him in his hospital room, training him slowly and gently, and listening to his fears. At first, all he'd noticed was that his mother kept complaining about static shocks when she held him, but then, during a routine blood test, the meta test was conducted through procedure, and everything moved fast from there.
A year later, after months and months of being stubborn, of working to use his new prosthetics, Sebastien was able to attend Kocher part time, returning home every Friday to the farm. But the farm was no longer what it was. Distraught by what their livelihood had done to their beloved only child, and by the huge medical fees, Emery had sold a large amount of their land to the neighbouring farm, and had decided to change from arable farming to Animal. Every weekend, a new herd would be added, and despite the endless physiotherapy, Sebbie was excited to see what creature would turn up next.
Soon, with a herd of cattle, a large flock of sheep, several pigs, geese, chickens, ducks and even two alpacas, the Haefeli farm was barely recognisable, if only remembered by the orchard and the toolshed - a place Sebastien felt sick going near. Irma decided to do things the old fashioned way, her own nerves shaken by the accident, and she wished to keep man made machinery away from the farm. So, armed with two herding dogs and a large horse, Emery took to making this new farming work.
After two years, Sebastien was competent with his prosthetics and attended Kocher full-time. Though behind with training, he threw himself into catching up and working hard. Still returning every second weekend, he found some of his side effects irritating, and preferred to just sit with his mother helping her sort out stock and market issues, and keep things the way they were before the accident.
Only a year ago, a place was offered for an exchange to America, to the sister Institute in Vermont. Working hard to keep his english fluent, Sebastien began to write to a penpal at Hammel, trying to prove that he was strong enough to go abroad and have a new experience.
Now, he's only just arriving in a brand new country, and he's excited and nervous, since he is so far away from home, and unsure of what people will think of him, his legs and his power.
