Time Warp:I should tell you (James and Adam)

It had been an agonizing three days for James. Far from the weeks or months Adam had done through, he was completely aware of every passing minute that had gone by. The other man had said he had to think, so James had given him as much space as possible. He hadn't been anywhere near the training rooms and had avoided Adam all he could.

But no more avoiding now.

He listened, surprised, to what the other man said. In all honesty, he'd walked away, three days earlier, thinking that he had just been dumped, and deservedly so. James had broken Adam's trust, and he was giving him a chance to earn it back? Why?

"Adam...." But what was there to say? He couldn't really say what was on his mind. Just dump my cheating ass so I can stop being in this ugly in-between phase where you're disappointed and I don't know exactly how much scum I am. But instead he just thought for a moment, before continuing. "Adam, I'm sorry I fucked this up so badly. You're right about the break and...I don't think we should get back together." In his head, James was protesting that he was doing it wrong. He should not be the one doing the dumping. He was the desperate, clingy one who wanted them to be out and open and serious. And he was the one who had made it so that wasn't going to happen. "You deserve someone who you can trust. I didn't tell you about Chase because I was expecting you to forgive me. You deserved to know and you deserve someone who won't hurt you."

James ran his hand though his hair, making parts stand on end. He might as well look foolish, because that's how he felt right now. "Yes. I cheated for a reason." Had he actually said the word cheated before? He couldn't remember. "I just don't know what the reason is."

Adam wasn't quite sure how he felt. It hurt that James didn't want to be with him any more, but at the same time there was relief. There would be no more hiding and sneaking about. If Adam was being honest with himself he would see that it was for the better. They were not good together. But getting down to it James was right. He deserved someone he could trust, someone that wouldn't hurt him.

Adam sighed. "You're right I do deserve that, and a whole lot more. I deserve to be with someone who I love and loves me back. That was never the case with us. We both knew we weren't permanent. We both deserve that in our lives."

Adam wanted to be pissed off, he really did but his anger had died days ago. All that was left now was disappointment and, hurt.

"I hope you figure out why you did what you did and learn from it. Never put someone else through this, not if you have the smallest amount of feelings for them. As for you and me, our break up and what happened will be like the everything else. I wont tell anyone anything. You don't have to worry about that."

Adam was done, just plain done. He was drained emotionally and physically all he wanted to do was go home and sleep.

It was a relief that Adam was acknowledging the fact that they hadn't been great together. He'd been sure that they were on the same page, where they'd both known that the relationship wasn't going to last forever. It had really freaked James out when Adam had agreed to make their relationship more public.

The absolute last thing James had wanted was to break Adam's heart. If Adam had said "I love you" before James had told him about Chase....well, he probably wouldn't have told him.

James nodded. Of course he was right. "I'm not going to. Adam, I really am sorry. And thank you." And he was very thankful Adam wasn't going to be spreading this story around. As it was, it was likely that someone would be able to pluck it out of his head. He was going to be avoiding Sean and any other telepaths until he stopped freaking out about this.

Honestly, it was amazing that they'd kept it such a secret for this long. Considering how much James thinks in a day and how bad he was at shielding his thoughts, someone should have picked up on either the relationship or the breakup.

James waited fr Adam to leave his office, then he sighed and cradled his head in his hands. What made it worse was that he really wanted to call Chase and tell him what happened. He needed some encouragement, and for some reason, the blond's voice was in his head.

So it turns out that James was that kind of guy after all.
