The easy S T U F F . . .Name: Penny Stone
Nickname: Pen, but only her brother could get away with it.
Age: Twenty-five
Member Group: Student, Teacher, Institute Official, Local
Power(s): Perfect Recall. She's a smart gal on her own, but her ability allows her to remember things she has seen or heard only once in her life. If it has been read, spoken, sung, smelled, tasted, or touched, Penny will be able to remember it, though it takes focus to remember the small details. And for having such a vast memory bank for her power, she tends to get rather spacy after she's 'recalled' something.
Play By: Maggie QLet it F L O W . . .The wide screen HD tv generally only showed its owner HBO movies and the Discovery Channel, and every day at six in the morning and six at night the news. Now, however, it showed an out of focus toddler holding a baby in it's lap. The picture was rather fuzzy. The date in the bottom right of the corner read; December 24, 1985. The baby was about three months old and the toddler was almost four years old. The toddler was a boy with shiny black hair and the baby had a fuzzy patch of black hair as well. "Dis babbee is my sisser." The high pitched voice of the toddler filled the room and the watcher on the couch cringed as fresh tears tracked downwards. "I wuv Penny." The toddler continued and handed the baby her new toy, a troll doll with firey red hair. The young woman on the couch held a similar looking troll doll, she stroked the patch of hair on its head and shut off the home video.
She looked at the old troll doll, kept in good condition only because for most of her life it was shut up in a box by her parents. She thought back to that time in her life. Her brother, her mother, and her father really did make up that 'perfect' family scenario. That is, until her parents more or less abandoned them after they joined Doctors Without Borders. Sure, they were giving modernized medical care to people who hadn't been inside a three story building, but what about their kids? They just dumped them with Grandma, who was the sort of grandma that wanted her grandkids to grow up to be famous and successful doctors. Needless to say, spending the best years of her childhood at that stuffy old lady's home wasn't something she liked.
However, it was her brother, Nickolas that made it all better. He was three years older than her, so he was always just a bit ahead of her. He didn't always want to play the same things as her, or watch the same Tv as her, but he did anyway, because out of the two of them, Nickolas got all the attention from Grandma, because she was high in her Chinese beliefs and pretty much thought Penny wouldn't amount to anything, which caused the young girl to always want to 'show' her Grandma. Penny could be just as great as Nickle, no matter what. They spent a good seven years living with Grandma and during that time, Grandma had Nickle try every little leagued sport, including the local martial arts. Whatever Nickle did, Penny tried. She didn't like the football, and baseball bored her. She was too aggressive in basketball, and she never wanted to pass the ball in Soccer. It was when Grandma took them to the kung foo class for children that Penny actually did better than Nickle. He was such a nice person, he never wanted to hit or spar, and he lacked the natural aggression that Penny had. After a while, Nickle just wanted to quit, but he didn't. If he quit, then Grandma would have made Penny quit, and he knew that Penny really loved it.
When Nickolas turned thirteen, Penny being ten at the time, she started to get...images in her head, of her brother sometimes when he was helping her with her homework or something. And every now and then when he spoke to Grandma, she would close her eyes and pray a little. His friends stopped wanting to hang out with him, and he had no idea why. But the people around him were freaked out by him, because when he spoke, sometimes they saw him in their minds. Not after too long, a nice lady came to their house, making promises about this school far off in Vermont. Grandma didn't want to give up her prized grandson, but she also wanted him to get 'better', as if there was something wrong with him.
Penny cried a lot after her brother moved away and the next two years were the most miserable she had ever went through. Grandma was so mean to her, always making her do all the chores, she never let her have friends over or watch Tv. If she got a B on homework or a test, Penny got a spanking. Her only solace was every Friday night when Nickolas called and talked to her four almost three hours, every week. He would always tell her great things about Pilot Ridge and everything at Hammel, and she so desperately wanted to go there. Every time she brought up moving to Pilot Ridge, Grandma would curse at her in Chinese and stomp off into her attic den that Penny was from entering.
It was when she, herself, turned thirteen that things started getting better. She never needed to study for another test or work hard over her homework, or even really pay attention in class. She just...always remembered whatever anyone said or did. When she started bringing home perfect 100s, her Grandma started letting up on her, and started to think, that maybe, she wasn't a total failure. Then that nice lady that took Nickle to Hammel showed up again, and surprise, surprise! Penny was special too, and she got to go to Hammel like she had always wanted. And to totally surprise her brother, she didn't tell him.
When she got to the school, he was so shocked he didn't know what to say or do, because he never thought in a million years that his sister would be a Meta as well. They were nearly inseparable (for a little while because they missed each other so much) but then Penny started making her own friends and Nickle's friends were tired of hanging out with a freshman. Her power turned out to be rather straight forward and it didn't take much for her to recall things. It was, however, after she started to really experiment with her powers that she started getting spacier and spacier when she wasn't really focusing on remembering things, her mood would fluctuate with her powers and her short fuse got noticeably shorter. Though, like all side effects, she got better with practice. It sucked that when she just started at Hammel, it was Nickle's last year there. He went off to college and she went on to being a sophomore.
The rest of her high school career was rather unnoteworthy. Sure, she got a better handle on 'recalling' and not being a super pissy bitch all the time. After she graduated, she joined her brother at a nearby university. And of course, after her first year, he graduated and she moved on to being a sophomore. She decided to major in business, because she liked the idea of owning and running her own business (but she wasn't really sure what she was going to sell, exactly). Her brother had felt the call to become a doctor, and that was what he was working towards, to make Grandma and the spirits of their parents proud. Penny resented them, but Nickle respected what they were doing.
Penny was twenty-two when she graduated with her degree in business and she worked a full-time job at a liquor store, living with her grandma and brother to save up to start her own business. Two years of doing nothing but saving gave her a rather large bank account, and she was about ready to start getting the grants and papers to start construction of a strip mall (she decided that since she couldn't decide on ONE store, she'd open several) when the unthinkable happened.
Her brother was still in college at the time, and he was walking from campus to a restaurant to meet Penny and Grandma when he was attacked by a group of anti-meta humans. He was rushed to the hospital, nearly beaten to death. Penny and Grandma (who had gotten over her resentment to them being meta) were absolutely devestated, and while both of the women wanted to find the people responsible and kill them, there was no way. They were needed at the hospital. When they got there, one of Nickle's doctors told them flat out that they might not make it. Penny got in touch with the hospital closest to Pilot Ridge and had him transferred there. He would be safe from anti-meta there, and so would Penny. Grandma insisted it. She wasn't going to have any meta-hating humans kill her grandson--or granddaughter for that matter. Penny's plans changed, and instead of using her savings to start a store, she had to use it to keep Nickle alive, a sacrifice she was more than willing to make. They moved into a cozy house at Pilot ridge and tried to enjoy Vermont as much as they could.
Penny, however, started to fester about the people that did such a thing to her brother. She wanted to make them all pay. She learned through the grape vine about Gabriel and what he was doing, and wanted to join immediately. Which brings us full circle to her sitting on her couch, coveting her troll doll that her brother had given her for her first Christmas. He'd been in the hospital for three weeks and was still in a coma.Behind the M A S K . . .Name: Nana <3
