Of Meeting New People

Rhett placed his key in the lock and opened the door quietly. The room was empty, fortunately. He always found this moment of "hey new roommate" strangely awkward and even though it had to happen eventually, he preferred to push it back as long as possible, that is why he chose to meet his dorm at lunch time. He closed the door behind him and examined the place. Small, at least smaller than back in his old school, but he already knew Hammel wasn't as fancy as the old one.
He was wearing pale simple jeans he had "acquired" not long before leaving to Hammel, a sleeveless white shirt and some very dirty beige sneakers, and besides that, the only thing with him was one medium-sized backpack filled with clothes and nothing more. He had no money, no cellphone, no laptop, not even a toothbrush, but it was ok, in one a night out he could gather enough money to get by the next days. For now it was just about claiming a bed, but since there was only one option, this was a rather quick thing. He proceeded to drop his backpack in the bed and sit for a moment to take a more careful examinations. He knew the names of his roommates, but nothing more about them, he didn't notice any pictures anywhere nor anything that could actually tell him something about them besides the fact that one of them was very disorganized. At least there weren't any used condoms in the floor like his old roommate used to leave, oh, the not-so-good old times.
After taking a breath or two, it had been a long day in the administration offices, he stood up and thought that maybe it was a good moment to explore the dorm and get a feel about the school, maybe he could push the "hey new roommate" moment back to night-time.
