L.C. suddenly taking off was quite the surprise really. While the smug teen did expect the Iron Maiden to make her disappearing act soon, he didn’t expect it to be that soon. Was he a little too forward with what he did? Or was that L.C.’s way of playing hard-to-get?
Shrugging his doubts off (it wouldn’t do him any good anyway; it’s not like L.C. would suddenly come back and answer his questions), the boy scratched his head a couple of times before finally standing up and deciding it’s high time to get going too. The sun’s almost down anyway after all.
After a few more seconds spent dusting his board shorts, Zac finally grabbed his towel and walked towards his bag, idly slinging it over his shoulder. It was when he heard the thud of his phone across the sand did it occur to him that L.C. hasn’t given him any number he could text. Or call for that matter.
Did she just say that she doesn’t have a phone earlier?
“Nah. That can’t be right,” the boy said, trying to reassure himself as he grabbed his phone and tucked it in his pocket. Living without a phone in this day and age? Impossible. He’d probably stop by Dr. Neville’s office tomorrow though, ask him about his home phone number. Just in case he can’t sniff L.C. out anyway.
He promptly dried himself off, changed his clothes and drove off, stopping by his favorite café to grab a cup of coffee and a dozen donuts before heading back to Pete’s house to grab a quick nap (he’d ask the man to drive him by Hammel later, since the said institution has no overnight parking for their students yet, something they should work on really, at least in his opinion), all with a big smile on his face. Who knew a brief afternoon swim by the lake would answer all those lingering questions he’s had on his head for more than two months now?
